Athletic Greens vs Amazing Grass

Athletic Greens vs Amazing Grass

I have tried both Athletic Greens and Amazing Grass in the past, and by consuming both of these formulas, I actually started my search for the perfect super greens formula and ended up creating my own – Supergreen Tonik! So, thank you Athletic Greens & Amazing Grass!

Now, that’s not to say that these formulas aren’t good – they both have individual pros and cons, and they’re both incredibly popular brands on the super greens market. So, although I have already reviewed these formulas separately (Athletic Greens Full Review and Amazing Grass Full Review), it’s time to compare them with each other!

Although each of these formulas is popular in its own right, there are actually a lot of differences between the two, from the flavoring of the formula to the ingredients that make up the formula, so it’s going to be a really interesting comparison!

Are you interested in getting your hands on either of these formulas? Or perhaps you’re actually stuck trying to decide between the two? Maybe you’re simply a super greens enthusiast like me that’s intrigued by supplement comparisons?

Let’s get straight into it – check out my full comparison review of Athletic Greens vs Amazing Grass below.

What is Athletic Greens?

Athletic Greens is one of the most popular greens formulas out there, with the estimated revenue of the brand sitting anywhere between $20-$50 million. Unlike other supplement brands, Athletic Greens only produces one formula, which is certainly popular because it’s bringing in that kind of revenue!

Athletic Greens is made up of 75 ingredients, featuring super greens, superfruits, herbal extracts, probiotics, prebiotics, and digestive enzymes.

The greens formula was originally specifically formulated for athletes, and it’s NSF Certified For Sport. This means it contains no banned substances or filler ingredients – this is extremely important for athletes, so it’s no wonder this is popular among this crowd!

However, rather than just being marketed toward athletes, the formula is also marketed toward people looking for an easy way to increase their nutritional intake and benefit from superfood ingredients.

However, unfortunately, Athletic Greens is made up of proprietary blends, meaning it’s unclear how much of each ingredient exists within the formula and whether the amounts of the ingredients actually equal recommended daily doses.

However, I will look at everything in more detail in this comparison. First, let’s look at the formula's overall pros and cons.

Athletic Greens (AG1) Pouch

Pros

  • It contains 75 powerful ingredients
  • NSF Certified For Sport
  • One of my favorite tasting formulas out there

Cons

  • Made up of proprietary blends
  • Expensive formula

What is Amazing Grass?

It’s important for me to say that I’m talking about the Amazing Grass Green Superfood formula in this review because I have also reviewed other formulas by the brand.

The Original Amazing Grass Green Superfood formula contains 27 ingredients, with the other flavors of the formula obviously containing a few more flavoring ingredients.

The majority of the ingredients list is made up of super greens, but it also contains superfruits, digestive enzymes, probiotics, and prebiotics. A lot of the ingredients within the formula are organic, with a lot of them coming from the Amazing Grass farm. However, the formula as a whole isn’t certified organic.

Unlike Athletic Greens which was specifically formulated for athletes, Amazing Grass has always been focused on supplying all types of people with a simple dose of super greens!

However, just like the Athletic Greens formula, Amazing Grass contains proprietary blends, meaning that it’s impossible for consumers to know how much of each ingredient resides in the formula and if the benefits that the brand claims will occur will actually occur.

Nonetheless, let’s take a look at the overall pros and cons of Amazing Grass before taking a closer look at specific aspects of both formulas.

Tasting Amazing Grass

Pros

  • Low-cost formula
  • Variety of tastes

Cons

  • Contains proprietary blends

Amazing Grass has a new and improved version of their greens superfood, check out Amazing Grass Raw Reserve.

Athletic Greens Vs Amazing Grass Benefits

Athletic Greens

Athletic Greens has an entire area of its website dedicated to the benefits of the formula. So, as well as the consumer knowing the overall health benefits that the formula provides, the brand also tells the consumers about the benefits that come from each individual ingredient within the formula.

I really appreciate when brands provide informative content, so this is definitely a bonus! However, it does make me wonder why the brand has been so transparent about the benefits of each ingredient but not transparent about the amount of each ingredient within the formula – odd!

Overall, Athletic Greens claims that the formula will boost the immune system, boost energy levels, lower stress levels, support the digestive system, protect cells from radical damage, and increase nutrient absorption.

Amazing Grass

Unfortunately, there’s not as much information when it comes to health benefits with the Amazing Grass formula as there is with the Athletic Greens formula.

Amazing Grass focuses on three main areas – alkalinity, digestion, and health and wellness.

The brand claims that by consuming the Green Superfood formula you will benefit from balanced pH levels, increased alkalinity, increased digestion, and supported overall health and immunity.

I think the fact that Amazing Grass hasn’t even highlighted any specific ingredients that provide impressive benefits or given more information about ‘supported overall health’ is a shame – I definitely prefer the way that Athletic Greens has provided information about health benefits.

Athletic Greens Vs Amazing Grass Ingredients

Athletic Greens

As mentioned above, Athletic Greens is made up of 75 potent ingredients, with greens, probiotics, digestive enzymes, and herbal extracts featuring!

All of the ingredients within the formula are gluten-free, dairy-free, non-GMO, and nut-free, meaning the formula is vegan, paleo-friendly, and keto-friendly.

There’s no denying it, the Athletic Greens ingredients list is impressive. However, as touched on above, all of the ingredients exist with proprietary blends. If you don’t know how I feel about proprietary blends – I strongly dislike them! (Click here to see why!).

Proprietary blends make it impossible for a consumer to actually know what they’re consuming, which I’m completely not cool about, and I don’t think other consumers should be either.

The Athletic Greens formula does have quite heavily weighted proprietary blends, so there’s a chance that a few of the ingredients are sufficiently dosed. However, with a 75 ingredient formula, I want to see all 75 ingredients sufficiently dosed, and this is just not going to be possible!

So, although the ingredients list looks impressive at an initial glance, it’s pretty obvious that you’re not going to be benefitting from all of these ingredients – there are 75 ingredients packed into 12g serving!

Amazing Grass

Amazing Grass contains fewer ingredients than the Athletic Greens formula, with just over 25 ingredients within the Original flavor blend.
However, as mentioned there are still different types of ingredients – super greens, superfruits fiber, enzymes, probiotics, and probiotics.

All of the ingredients within Amazing Grass are gluten-free, dairy-free, sugar-free, and non-GMO, meaning the formula is vegan and it should be keto-friendly too, although the brand doesn’t confirm or promote this. As mentioned above, a lot of the ingredients within the formula are also organic and grown on the Amazing Grass farm!

However, just like the Athletic Greens formula, Amazing Greens contains proprietary blends, so it’s unclear if the formula actually contains a sufficiently dosed selection of ingredients.

For example, the Greens blend in the formula contains wheatgrass, chlorella, and spirulina, which when combined, are supposed to equal 7g if they’re sufficiently dosed, but the entire blend is only 5.7g.

Unfortunately for the Amazing Grass formula, a lot of the ingredients do have recommended daily doses, whereas a lot of the Athletic Greens ingredients don’t, so this means we can actually work out that certain proprietary blends aren’t properly dosed.

Neither the Athletic Greens formula nor the Amazing Grass formula will have all ingredients sufficiently dosed, so they both lose in this category.

Athletic Greens Vs Amazing Grass Taste

Athletic Greens

Athletic Greens is actually one of my favorite tasting formulas, and it made it onto my best-tasting greens list at the top spot!

Although Athletic Greens isn’t actually marketed as being a specific flavor, the formula is sweetened and flavored with stevia and a variety of other natural flavors like papaya, broccoli, cherry, pineapple, carrot, and vanilla!

Personally, I think the Athletic Greens formula is refreshing and pleasant to drink.

Amazing Grass

Amazing Grass is available in a range of flavors – Original, Chocolate, and Berry. If you’re looking for the Greens formula with added energy, you can also choose from Lemon-Lime and Watermelon flavors.

Both the Chocolate flavor and the Berry flavor have popular taste reviews. I tried the Original flavor formula, and I wasn’t a huge fan.

Personally, I thought that the Original flavor tasted really grass and natural, and it didn’t mix well in water, leaving a gritty texture.

However, maybe the other flavors taste a lot better and people do like them, which suggests that they do.

Athletic Greens Vs Amazing Grass Cost

Athletic Greens

Athletic Greens comes in a pouch that contains 30 servings. One pouch of Athletic Greens costs $97. This works out at a cost per serving of $3.23.
Athletic Greens offer a subscription option that will give you 21% off, which means that you’d be paying a cost per serving of $2.56 if you chose to subscribe!

This is a really expensive cost per serving, even with the subscription discount, in comparison to other greens formulas on the market. It’s also very expensive for a formula that’s made from proprietary blends!

Amazing Grass

The Amazing Grass formula is a lot cheaper than the Athletic Greens formula.

Although you can choose from a 30-serving tub and a 60-serving tub, to compare to the Athletic Greens formula, let’s take a look at the 30-serving tub price.

One 30-serving tub of Amazing Grass costs $29.99, meaning the cost per serving works out at $1.00.

You can save 20% if you sign up for a subscription, meaning the cost per serving would work out at $0.79 if you chose to subscribe! This is incredibly cheap, and it’s obviously significantly cheaper than the Athletic Greens formula.

This is the kind of price I would expect to pay for a proprietary blend formula. However, I still wouldn’t waste money on a formula that might not actually work.

Athletic Greens Vs Amazing Grass: Which is Better?

Both the Athletic Greens formula and the Amazing Grass formula are incredibly popular on the super greens market, but to be honest, I’m surprised by that due to the fact that both the formulas are made using proprietary blends.

The formulas both have pros and cons, with the Athletic Greens formula containing more ingredients, having heavier weighted blends and tasting better, and with the Amazing Grass formula having more flavor options and being cheaper.

I personally wouldn’t choose to purchase either of these formulas now that I know there are super greens formulas on the market with fully disclosed ingredients labels.

For my though, neither of these brands tick all the boxes for what I am looking for in a greens powder with full disclosure of the ingredients and confidence of proper ingredient dosing.
