It’s that time of the month where I reflect on how last month went regarding investments, business, and personal goals.
Last month has been a bit of a emotional roller coaster if I am being honest.
I have to admit to struggling with low motivation and confidence a lot. It’s of course the nature of working for yourself, and well basically being human. Nevertheless has been a tough month.
But first, let’s kick off with how my investments have been doing in August 2020.
Investment Portfolio Update
Overall with the movement of some shares up and others down, crypto, and metals, I am around the same as last month.
This doesn’t take into account the recent load of stock I purchased for my business though – there is a good $150k there.
SaxoSelect Go Trading Account
This month, some green! Woohoo!
That’s right, I joked with a friend over the weekend saying it’s so nice to see green on a number of my shares.
My holding in Microsoft, PayPal, and Keppel Infrastructure REITS (see my post on why I prefer holding REITS to property).
I got in on technology stocks late, but still seeing these up 10-15% in the little time that I have owned them.
The bearish talk on the market is gaining momentum, next quarter will be interesting to say the least!
I decided to buy some more altcoins this month and dabble with trading them to see how I get on.
So, I allocated just $10k to buy some Litecoin and DOT.
Cryptocurrency is looking good and mostly been in the green here. Overall I am up around 20% across the board, it will be interesting to see where we go in the next few months.
I am ever bullist on Bitcoin and believe we will hit new highs this year.
Art of FX – Steady Growth
This month there were 1.67% gains for my FX investment, which brings 2020 to 10.66%.
Since investing in May 2018 my account is up 39%, happy days.
Gold and Silver
Now that I own both Gold and Silver I putting these together.
Gold saw some pull-back this month, even still since I started investing in 2017 I am up 60% – in hindsight happy that I went against some of my friends’ advice and investing in physical gold!
I choose to use BullionStar a bullion vault storage company based in Singapore. You can even visit your bullion if you so wish!
Goal Progress for August 2020
I made little progress this month with personal goals.
Mentally I wasn’t in the “game”. Frustration and lack of focus completely got the better of me.
I was tempted to buy a motorbike last month. I still remember the joy of biking around Chiang Mai some 16 years ago now.
I even went as far as picking out the bike I wanted.
As my biking friend Tim commented on seeing it – “looks like a Ducati that’s come out of washing machine”.
I was very tempted to buy and name it – The Dushati!
It was a very good analogy, check out the picture.
After much thought, common sense prevailed and I decided not to buy the dushati.
I need to be more active and getting a motorbike would make me less so.
August 2020 Summary
As I mentioned in the introduction, it’s been a little bit of an emotional rollercoaster. This was partly borne from running out of stock and delays in getting this to our fulfillment warehouse.
All these factors were out of my control but it still caused a reasonable amount of stress.
Thankfully we got sorted out by the middle of the month and customers were in the majority happy to order – it was humbling to see customers ordering even when we were out of stock!
I was sick a couple of times this month, which may have been linked to feeling more anxious and stressed than usual.
I am much more focused and excited about work (and life to be honest) now, and so ready to notch it up a gear for the rest of 2020.

Instead of the motorbike, I went with upgrading my headphones and grabbed a pair of the Sennheiser Momentum 3’s (check them out on Amazon here).
These are super comfortable, Bluetooth, and have a great sound – my go-to headphones now!
You would have to agree they do look rather nice with the obligatory mask 😉
So, that’s it for now. I wish everyone all the best!
