Most people worry about getting older, looking aged, and losing their vitality. So, for decades, if not centuries, we’ve all been looking out for the newest and best thing to help us look that little bit younger, or turn back the visible hands of time.
Long gone are the multivitamin recommendations or hair growth shampoos, because now, collagen is all the rage on the anti-aging scene.
Collagen appears to be everywhere, from beauty serums and drinks to gummies and gels. So naturally, for people that want to consume collagen and greens powders, and for those that are thinking of consuming both, the question “can you mix collagen with greens powder?” has been asked.
In this article, I’m going to answer this question, give some recommendations, and also answer the other important question of whether collagen supplements actually work, or whether they’re a waste of money.
Yes, You Can Mix Collagen With Greens Powder!
Let’s get straight into it and answer the question – yes, you can mix collagen with a greens powder.
There’s absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t mix collagen with a greens powder. The collagen will not interrupt any of the nutrients in the greens powder, and the ingredients from the greens powder won’t do any harm when taken alongside collagen.
If you do want to mix collagen with a greens powder, the best thing you can do is to purchase a high-quality collagen powder, top greens powder and mix them.
However, rather than tipping one product into the other’s container, you’re probably best to put the serving size of one powder in a cup and then the other, ensuring that you’re not overdosing on either supplement in case they contain different amounts of servings.
Then, add water or add into a smoothie and there you have it, a perfectly good greens powder that’s mixed with collagen!
Mixing a Collagen Powder With A High-Quality Greens Powder
The best option, as mentioned above, is choosing a high-quality greens powder and a high-quality collagen powder, and mixing them together. However, it’s first important to explain what I really mean by ’high quality’.
When I talk about high-quality supplements, I don’t mean ones that are overly expensive or brimming with ingredients, I mean the ones that have fully disclosed ingredients labels and sufficiently dosed ingredients.
It’s actually harder than you might think to find high-quality supplements, with lots of brands choosing to use proprietary blends (blends that contain multiple ingredients) that only show the amount of the blend, rather than the amount of each ingredient on the ingredients label.
The problem with proprietary blends is that typically, the ingredients within these blends are underdosed, and therefore, the benefits that the brand claims the formula provides might not actually occur.
So, make sure you’re choosing a collagen powder and a super greens formula with a fully disclosed label showing that the ingredients are sufficiently dosed.
Green Tonik, my own super greens formula, ticks all of these boxes, so would be a great formula to mix a collagen powder with.
Collagen and Greens Powders On The Market
There’s not a wide array of supplements that contain both collagen and greens, but there are a couple that you may want to check out if you’re looking for a powder that contains both. These are Country Farms Collagen Greens and Garden of Life Collagen Greens.
However, both formulas are made up of proprietary blends, so may not be as effective as mixing your own high-quality collagen with a fully disclosed greens powder.
FAQ’S About Collagen
What Is Collagen?
Collagen is an essential protein in the body that makes up approximately 30% of proteins in the body. Collagen is essential in various areas in the body, but most specifically in the connective tissues that make tendons, muscles, and the skin.
Collagen’s role in keeping the skin elastic and strong is what most people focus on in relation to aging because as we age, collagen production decreases. Therefore, the skin becomes weaker and wrinkles begin to show.
Do Collagen Supplements Actually Work?
Seeing as collagen is naturally produced within the body, there’s not actually much evidence to support the benefits that all of the collagen supplement companies are stating.
Collagen created outside the body might not actually synergize with the human body, and therefore may not provide the health benefits that collagen produced within the body does.
In addition, collagen will be ingested like any other protein and be broken down and redistributed depending on what the body needs. Therefore, it’s impossible for a supplement to guarantee things like ‘plumper, younger-looking skin’.
Seeing as there hasn’t been a lot of research done on the efficacy of collagen supplements, it’s unknown whether they will work or not. Some people swear by them, and others think they’re a waste of money. So, it’s really up to you if you want to invest in them without clear scientific evidence.
However, I will say that it’s probably more beneficial to choose a greens powder that contains a wide range of sufficiently dosed ingredients that will make sure you’re as healthy as possible by providing you with essential nutrients every day.
Is Collagen Vegan?
Collagen isn’t vegan because it’s found in animal parts, such as hooves and bones. So, the majority of collagen supplements will not be suitable for those on vegan or vegetarian diets.
However, there are a few plant-based collagen supplements out there, although efficacy is unknown.
The Bottom Line – Probably Best To Just Take A Greens Powder Instead
Now that you know you can successfully mix collagen with greens powder it’s completely up to you whether you choose to do this!
If you do, I would recommend mixing two high-quality powders rather than buying a cheap mixture of both that’s made up of proprietary blends.
Seeing as there’s not much research to back up the claims of collagen supplement brands, you might actually be better off investing in a good quality super greens formula that will genuinely support your health.
LifeHacker Guy Greens Recommendation
Some Call This An "Extreme" Step...
Most super greens supplements are disappointing.
I learned this the hard way. After creating this blog in 2018, I spent months buying and testing all the most popular brands.
I wasn’t happy with the results so I did something you might call "extreme"....
In 2019 I created my own brand that ticks every single box of what I look for in a super greens product:
- No hidden ingredient amounts - we have full disclosure labelling, so you know EXACTLY whats inside
- Ingredient amounts that make a difference - we include the minimum effective amounts supported by research, and most of the time, MORE
- Ingredients that help immunity, boost mental clarity and shake off brain fog - making for a much more productive and happy lifestyle
No more worrying about ineffective ingredients or too low dosages. I finally have a product I KNOW does the job it’s made to do.
I use it every day and, after years of battling Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), I now have my energy (and my life!) back.
The good news? I made my brand available to the public so you can see and feel the difference for yourself.
I have been taking Ancient Nutrition Dr Ax super-greens for 3 1/2 months, not seeing or feeling any changes. How is your product different? I gave up.
