Multivitamins tablets have been around since the 1950s and pretty much everyone will be familiar with them. However, one of the most popular supplements on the health and wellbeing scene now is fruit and vegetable supplements.
Whether turned into a formula, sweet gummies, or powdered and put into a capsule, fruit, and vegetable supplements are taking over the scene, with more and more people choosing these kinds of supplements to improve their wellbeing.
But, do fruit and vegetable supplements really work?
In this article, I’m going to be taking a look at the different kinds of fruit and vegetable supplements out there, as well as explaining to you why some fruit and vegetable supplements will increase your daily health, and why others are simply a waste of money!
Benefits Of Vegetable (Greens) Supplements
Vegetable supplements are usually called greens supplements, because the majority of vegetables within these formulas are dark, leafy super greens!
Super greens are some of the most nutritious foods in the world and packed with an array of essential micronutrients, vitamins, and minerals, they provide a wide range of impressive health benefits for the consumer.
Super greens are vegetables, grasses, and algae such as kale, spinach, spirulina, chlorella, moringa, wheatgrass, and barley grass.
Each green ingredient has specific health benefits, but overall, a super greens powder typically provides the consumer with a specific set of benefits.
These are – a boosted immune system, increased energy levels, increased mental clarity, better digestive health, and protection from radical damage for cells.
In addition, a greens powder is supposed to provide nutritional insurance for the consumer.
This means that regardless of what the consumer eats (although you should definitely have a healthy and balanced diet), they are consuming the essential nutrients needed for optimum daily health.
Benefits Of Fruit (Reds) Supplements
Most fruit supplements are named red superfood supplements, simply because the majority of superfruits are red berries.
The superfruit category includes blueberries, cranberries, blackcurrants, goji berries, acai berries, pomegranate, and more.
Superfruits contain essential vitamins, minerals, and fiber, and are also jam-packed with antioxidants.
Obviously, just like with vegetables, each fruit provides specific health benefits. However, overall, fruit supplements (red supplements) are supposed to protect cells from radical damage, push toxins from the body, boost the immune system, increase the health of skin, hair, and nails, reduce inflammation and increase energy levels.
Just like with vegetables, most people don’t consume enough fruit in their diet, so a fruit supplement can provide the essential nutrients needed from fruits, in one easy dose.
Of course, fruit and vegetable supplements can exist together, but typically, to get a sufficient amount of nutrients from both, greens supplements and reds supplements are separated.
Some companies produce both a green and red supplement, I compare the difference between Organifi Green Juice vs Red Juice.
Which Fruit & Vegetable Supplements Will Work?
Now that you know all about the benefits that come from fruit and vegetable supplements, it’s time to answer the question – do they actually work?
The honest answer is, yes!
However, this is only the case if you are consuming a sufficiently dosed formula that can actually provide the health benefits that the ingredients produce.
The issue of sufficient dosing is why many of the fruit and vegetable supplements I have reviewed fall down. Check out my NutriDyn Fruits & Greens, Vital Fruit & Vegetables, and Balance of Natura reviews.
To make sure that you choose fruit and vegetable supplements that work, you need to follow these tips below!
Choose A Supplement With A Fully Disclosed Label
In a market that’s filled with insufficiently dosed formulas, it’s vital that you choose to buy a fruit and vegetable supplement that has a fully disclosed ingredients label.
If you purchase a supplement with a fully disclosed label, you’re not only making sure that the brand you’re buying from is transparent, but you will be able to see if you’re receiving a sufficient amount of each ingredient.
Choose A Supplement With Sufficiently Added Ingredients
Hopefully, you’ll have taken the point above seriously and be only looking at purchasing supplements with fully disclosed ingredients labels. If so, you still need to make sure that the ingredients in the formula are actually properly dosed.
For example, the recommended daily dose of spirulina is 1-3g, so you need to choose a formula that has a minimum of 1g spirulina per serving.
You don’t really want to be doubling up on supplement servings all the time to meet daily recommended amounts of ingredients, so it’s best to just ensure you choose a supplement with the right amount of each ingredient.
Choose A Supplement With Powerful Ingredients
Although it might sound obvious, you do need to make sure that you choose a supplement that actually contains a wide range of potent ingredients.
Whether you’re going for a fruit or vegetable supplement, make sure the ingredients that are widely regarded as the most important of their kind are within the blend.
If you’re looking for a formula to provide you with certain health benefits it’s a good idea to know what ingredients provide these benefits and then make sure the formula you purchase contains it.
Avoid Supplements With Proprietary Blends
If a fruit and vegetable supplement doesn’t work, it’s probably because it contains proprietary blends. Proprietary blends are a big deal, and supplements contain them simply shouldn’t be purchased!
Most of the time, proprietary blend formulas don’t contain sufficient amounts of each ingredient and therefore you won’t receive the health benefits that you would if you chose a sufficiently dosed formula.
Avoid Gummies and Capsules
Gummies and capsules very very rarely actually contain a sufficient amount of ingredients – in fact, I’ve never found any that are sufficiently dosed!
Gummies and capsules are too small to contain a variety of ingredients that are sufficiently dosed. So, just avoid gummies and capsules at all costs! You’re best to go for a powdered formula.
Here are a few gummy and fruit and vegetable capsules brands I have reviewed:
Avoid Sugar-Filled Formulas
You should avoid formulas that contain sugar at all costs! Especially if following a Keto-based diet and looking to take supplements.
The formula you’re taking might be great, but if you’re consuming copious amounts of sugar every time you take a serving, you’ll only end up feeling sluggish, putting on weight, and having health problems – the opposite of how you want to feel!
The Bottom Line
Fruit and vegetable supplements will work and provide you with a vast range of health benefits, as long as you choose to consume the right kind of supplement.

LifeHacker Guy Greens Recommendation
Some Call This An "Extreme" Step...
Most super greens supplements are disappointing.
I learned this the hard way. After creating this blog in 2018, I spent months buying and testing all the most popular brands.
I wasn’t happy with the results so I did something you might call "extreme"....
In 2019 I created my own brand that ticks every single box of what I look for in a super greens product:
- No hidden ingredient amounts - we have full disclosure labelling, so you know EXACTLY whats inside
- Ingredient amounts that make a difference - we include the minimum effective amounts supported by research, and most of the time, MORE
- Ingredients that help immunity, boost mental clarity and shake off brain fog - making for a much more productive and happy lifestyle
No more worrying about ineffective ingredients or too low dosages. I finally have a product I KNOW does the job it’s made to do.
I use it every day and, after years of battling Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), I now have my energy (and my life!) back.
The good news? I made my brand available to the public so you can see and feel the difference for yourself.
