Dr. Joe’s Super Greens Review: Worth Buying?

Dr. Joe’s Super Greens formula is a greens powder that contains grasses, algae, and vegetables, as well as rice protein. The formula is marketed as a quick and easy way to increase nutrient intake, as well as benefit from fiber and protein at the same time too!

Dr. Joe’s Super Greens is non-GMO, soy-free, gluten-free, lecithin-free, and free of fillers and artificial flavors. The formula is also certified organic by Quality Assurance International.

The brand claims that the formula will provide the consumer with essential vitamins and minerals, as well as soluble and insoluble fiber, vegan protein, and omega-3 fatty acids, all of which are vital to optimum health and wellbeing.

I delve into Dr. Joes Super Greens formula to see if this wallet-friendly supplement can really pack a superfood punch. Should you buy or leave it in the aisle?

Dr. Joe’s Super Greens First Impressions

Looking at Dr. Joe’s website, it’s clear straight away that this brand is different from most of the supplement brands out there. The website is an amalgamation of information about Dr. Joe’s wellness centers in Georgia, USA, his books and podcasts, as well as supplements.

I’m not overly keen on the idea of having so many different things on one website, and I do think it’s a little off-putting for someone if they’re simply looking for a supplement. Nonetheless, there’s a lot of nutrition information that could be useful to site visitors.

Taking a closer look at the Super Greens formula, I’m not overly impressed. The branding of the formula is really outdated and there’s a real lack of information about the formula’s ingredients, benefits, and consumption instructions.

My first impression of the brand is that it’s too busy, simply because there’s way too much going on! However, my first impression of the formula is that there’s not enough information and the branding falls flat.

Overall, not a great first impression so I’m hoping that I’ll be blown away by looking at the formula in closer detail.

Background on Dr. Joe Esposito (Health Plus Wellness Center)

Health Plus Wellness Center is actually three physical chiropractic and wellness centers based around Georgia, in the US.

Dr. Joe Esposito, the founder of the Dr. Joe online supplement brand and the Health Plus Wellness Center, is a medically trained chiropractor, who decided to go into the health and wellbeing industry to try and help those that are in pain like his father was after falling 30 foot from a ladder and fracturing his back and skull.

As well as the three chiropractic and wellness centers, Dr. Joe has a wide range of supplements, books, and DVDs available for purchase online through the Dr. Joe website.

Dr. Joe’s Super Greens Benefits

The brand hasn’t actually given a lot of information about the benefits that Dr. Joe’s Super Greens formula is supposed to produce. Unlike other brands that claim that their formula aids digestion or boost the immune system, the only benefit information about this formula on the brand’s website is about the vitamins and minerals within it.

The formula is supposed to energize the metabolism with carbohydrates, provide the body with powerful antioxidants, provide the body with easily digestible protein, provide the body with fiber and omega-3 fatty acids.

It would be useful to see more information about the formula’s benefits, rather than just seeing information about the nutrients that the formula provides the body.

Dr. Joe’s Super Greens Ingredients

Dr. Joe’s Super Greens only contains 8 ingredients, and although I usually appreciate quality over quantity, unfortunately, these ingredients all exist within a propriety blend.

When proprietary blends are present, it’s impossible to see how much of each ingredient is within the formula which means that the efficacy of the formula is unknown.

However, more on that later on in this review! First, let’s take a look at the ingredients list.

Here is the complete list of the ingredients:

  • Dr. Joe’s Super Greens Ingredients: Proprietary Blend (13,000mg) – Organic Rice Protein, Organic Flax Seed, Organic Wheatgrass, Organic Spirulina, Organic Alfalfa Leaf, Organic Barley Grass, Organic Dulse, and Organic Chlorella

Here is the supplement facts label:

How does Dr. Joe’s Super Greens Taste?

Dr. Joe’s Super Greens isn’t flavored, but there is a product that the brand claims is similar, that has a Mint flavor. However, this Mint Flavor Super Greens contains different ingredients and doesn’t contain rice protein. The Mint flavor formula is flavored with stevia extract, organic mint flavor, and vanilla flavor.

Although the Mint flavor is definitely sweeter than the unflavored formula (although it’s a different formula!), neither of them is particularly tasty. In fact, most of the negative reviews of the formula concern the taste of it.

It’s pungent and grassy, which isn’t a problem for people that enjoy the natural taste of super greens, but it will definitely be too much for a newbie super greens drinker.

Side Effects

There aren’t any side effect warnings on the Super Greens formula as such. However, the brand does warn people that are taking blood-thinning medications that they shouldn’t take the formula. This is because the vitamin K in the formula may reduce the effectiveness of blood-thinning medication.

I would also say that if you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, under 18, taking medication, or suffering from a medical condition, you need to consult a doctor before consumption.

Does Dr. Joe’s Super Greens Work?

Unfortunately, as mentioned above briefly, Dr. Joe’s Super Greens formula contains a proprietary blend. Proprietary blends make it impossible for the consumer to know how much of each ingredient exists within the formula, also making it impossible to prove the efficacy of the formula.

However, I’m going to try and see if the proprietary blend is sufficiently weighted to include the recommended daily doses of the ingredients within it. If it is, then the formula will probably work. If not, not all of the ingredients will be sufficiently dosed and therefore the formula might not provide all the health benefits that the brand claims it will.

Only some of the ingredients within the formula have recommended daily doses, but let’s take a look at them to try and figure out if it’s possible for them to be sufficiently dosed!

The formula has a serving size of 13g.

The spirulina, chlorella, and wheatgrass in the formula have daily recommended doses, and together they equal an amount of 6g. So, this leaves 7g for the other ingredients, which seems very reasonable and therefore it’s potentially going to be sufficiently dosed!

However, I’m slightly concerned that the nutrition fact label states that there’s 7g of protein in every serving because if this is just the amount of rice protein and not the protein from all of the ingredients combined, that would mean that there’s only 6g of all the other ingredients, meaning they wouldn’t be sufficiently dosed.

So, I’m just hoping that the 7g of protein that the nutrition label shows is the protein from all of the ingredients and that the ingredients are actually sufficiently dosed in the formula.

However, it’s impossible to say if it will work or not because there’s no fully disclosed ingredients label, so these are just guesstimates!

Dr. Joe’s Super Greens Reviews

Dr. Joe’s Super Greens is sold on Amazon, and there are 75 ratings of the formula on there. Overall, the formula scores 4.3 stars out of 5 stars. The taste of the formula is the most complained aspect of the formula, with that being the main reason for people to rate the formula lowly.

Let’s take a look at some of these reviews below.

I started using the product early last month and ran out before reordering. During the time that I was without, I noticed arthritis flaring up in my hand. Once I received my new order and starting using it daily the hand feels fine. I am looking into using more of his products.5-star reviewer

Money-Back Guarantee / Returns Policy

The brand doesn’t offer a money-back guarantee. If you open a product and want to return it, you can do so within 7 days of receipt. If you haven’t opened the product, you can get a refund if you return it within 30 days of purchase.

Where to buy Dr. Joe’s Super Greens?

You can buy Dr. Joe’s Super Greens from the Dr. Joes Health Plus website, Amazon, and other independent online third-party supplement retailers.

Is It Worth The Price?

Dr. Joe’s Super Greens is sold in tubs containing 32 servings of the formula.

One tub costs $29.50, which works out at a cost per serving of $0.92.

If you subscribe to receive the formula monthly, one tub costs $26.55, therefore meaning the cost per serving is $0.83.

This is a really cheap formula, and although the formula is made from a proprietary blend and doesn’t have a fully disclosed ingredients label, because the blend is heavily weighted and there are only 8 ingredients, I would say that it probably is worth the price.

The Bottom Line

Although I’m not bowled over or particularly in awe of the Dr. Joe brand, I actually don’t think this is a bad product. If you’re looking to purchase a cheap super greens formula with protein, it could be a good choice for you!

Personally, I wouldn’t choose to purchase this formula simply because I would rather pay more and know exactly what’s in a formula and whether it was going to benefit me before I consumed it.

If you’re looking for a potent super greens formula with a fully disclosed label that will definitely provide you with health benefits, check out my summary of the best super greens powders out there.

So, if you’re looking for a very cheap way to potentially receive extra nutrients, this formula could be a suitable choice for you.
