What is KOS Super Reds?

KOS Love You Berry Much is a “super reds” powder supplement that you mix with water, or your favorite smoothie, and drink once per day.

As with all KOS supplements, the branding is playful and uses fun illustrations of the fruits and vegetables on their tubs and website. This is unique and gives the brand character.

This supplement is not as popular as KOS Greens, which I have previously reviewed on my site.

KOS manufactures its supplements in Southern California, USA, and the ingredients are certified by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and California Certified Organic Farmers Association (CCOF).

Background on KOS

Launched in 2018 KOS Naturals LLC is based in Goleta, California. The name is from a greek island and the birthplace of Hippocrates.

And just like the “Father of Medicine”, KOS Naturals wish to follow his approach to health and wellness.

They produce a number of supplements from plant proteins, daily reds, and their KOS greens blend.

Along with the multi-ingredient supplements on offer they also have an extensive range of single-ingredient powders.

KOS partners with “project one million meals” to help feed starving Americans to combat the chronic hunger faced by millions in the US.

KOS Super Reds Ingredients

One scoop of KOS reds powder contains 18 ingredients in an 8.9 gram serving each being a small 25 calories with 2 grams of sugar.

The formula is comprised of three proprietary blends “KOS Organic Superfood Blend”, “KOS Organic Berry Superfood blend”, and “KOS Premium Digestion Blend”.

The use of proprietary blends means we only know the weight of each blend but not the individual ingredient amounts.

The formula is plant-based, made without soy or dairy, and is certified as USDA organic.

Here is the complete list of KOS Super Reds ingredients:

  • KOS Organic superfood Blend (5.8 grams) – Organic Red Beet Root Powder, Organic Apple Powder, Organic Pomegranate Juice Powder, Organic Coconut Water Powder, Organic Acerola Extract Powder
  • KOS Organic Berry Superfood Blend (1.6 grams) – Organic Acai, Organic Cranberry Powder, Organic Raspberry Powder, Organic Blackberry Powder, Organic Goji Berry Juice Powder
  • KOS Premium Digestion Blend (900mg) – Organic Acacia Fiber (powder), DigeSEB (Amylases, Lactase, Proteases, Lipase, Cellulase), Organic Ginger, Aloe Vera Extract

How does KOS Super Reds Taste?

Getting the taste right for everyone with powder supplements is a tough job because we all have different taste preferences.

I must admit I wasn’t sure how the Goji berry popsicle flavor would taste. Most red powders have a berry taste, sometimes a distinctive cherry flavor like Organifi Red Juice.

KOS use both monk fruit and stevia powder to lightly sweeten the taste. I rarely see both these natural sweeteners used together in a supplement.

Side Effects

Consuming KOS Reds in the recommended daily amounts should not cause any side effects.

Of course, if you're taking medication or have any existing medical condition then it makes sense to seek medical advice before any over-the-counter supplement.

Does KOS Super Reds Work?

How well KOS Super Reds works is dependent on its ingredient formula. Whilst we know the ingredients inside as they are listed on the label, we don't get to know their individual amounts, and so we cannot tell if the formula is scientifically dosed.

This is the massive downside of proprietary formula and I have discussed the issues why in my article here.

What we do know though, is the order of the ingredients in the blend matter, in that they are in the order of biggest weight.

This means that the main ingredient in KOS reds is beetroot, this is good to know.

Beetroot vegetable and juice

There are lots of health benefits from consuming beetroot powder each day, and it's why I am now introducing this beet to my daily nutrient stack!

Most of the data for the recommended daily dosage of beets is using the vegetable (200 grams) or beet juice (125-250ml) source).

When using freeze-dried beetroot powder dosages of 1-3 grams are common in supplements as they provide a concentrated source of nutrient density, in particular, the dietary nitrate content.

There are five ingredients in the proprietary blend that contains beetroot and so it's likely they are in the recommended serving size.

Do the KOS Reds Benefits stack up?

The main KOS reds benefits are to “Rejuvenate Your Skin And Daily Energy” and so I am going to look at the ingredients in the formula that can support these claims.

We know that eating healthy fruit and vegetables daily provides the vitamins and minerals your body needs to function at its best.

There is research to support the use of antioxidants for supporting skin health and to neutralize excess free radical damage.

There is a great article here that goes into detail the many ways natural antioxidants help the skin.

Many supplements promote improved energy levels (I know, I do too in mine too, check why here) this is because we know having sufficient vitamins, especially the B Vitamins, are so crucial for the metabolic pathways in the body.

So, if your diet is particularly poor in vitamins and minerals a supplement providing these can certainly help. This is why multivitamins are so popular.

Even though KOS Reds do not show the vitamin and mineral nutritional values in their formula there will be some from both the berry superfood and superfood blends.

It's just unclear how much you're getting in each serving.

KOS Super Reds Reviews

I like to look at customer reviews of any brand I am interested in. Where possible I look to third-party reviews on independent websites, most commonly on Amazon.

There are glowing Amazon reviews for KOS Reds with an average rating of 4.4 out of 5. This is great to see and clearly, this supplement is popular with over 5299 reviews to date.

I love KOS organic red blends. I have been using it everyday for the past 4 days and already feel a difference in my energy. The taste is a little gritty in water but not over powering, we are going to try smoothies soon. To describe the taste it's like sugarless koolaid.5 stars

The ability to obtain Nitric Oxide from a product to assist with oxygenation, vessel cleanse of plaque build up, and which also increases positive mood and energy is amazing. The product is wonderful, but its drawback is the delivery system which is a powder. The powder stains, is easily to breath in the dust. There is no real taste, it mixes well, but the staining property is terrible for clothes, counter tops, and tea towels. 3 stars

BE AWARE!!!! This is how much product you actually get. I'm really disappointed. The jar is already half gone and this is brand-new!!! I will not be purchasing this brand again. This is the equivalent of opening up a bag of chips and having mostly air. There are better products that will give you your money's worth as opposed to KOS.1 star

It seems that negative reviews of KOS Reds concern two issues.

One, receiving a small amount of powder inside the jar, or secondly, how well the powder is mixed with water and then tastes. I have commented on the issue with taste with powder supplements above and will address the issue of value for money below.

Money-Back Guarantee / Returns Policy

There is a 60-day money-back guarantee with all KOS supplements. This length of the guarantee is okay and should be enough time to give the product a try.

Just be mindful that KOS requires supplements to be returned WITHIN 60-days of placing the order.

Where to buy KOS Super Reds?

You can buy KOS Super Reds from the official website and from their Amazon store.

Is It Worth The Price?

Each jar of KOS Reds is a very affordable $32.95 ($28 if you use their subscribe and save option). You can also save money by opting for their “buy 2 get 1 free” or “buy 4 get 2 free” bundles.

There have been concerns about the value for money with KOS Reds. Customers have opened up the jar only to discover it half-filled!

This can happen when the powder contents settle but it does seem like maybe the wrong size jar is being used by KOS.

KOS Reds half filled jar

The Bottom Line

I said the same for KOS Greens, the branding is great, and I really love what the company is looking to do.

When reviewing supplements my starting point is always the ingredients, and whilst they are some good ones inside KOS Reds, they may not be in the correct dosages to support all the health benefits claimed.

This is a common complaint with most brands that I look at.

That said, KOS Super Reds is a very affordable supplement, and so if you are looking to top up your diet with some berries and other superfoods, then this could be a good option for you.
