What is Opti-Greens 50?

My first impression of Opti-Greens is good. The site is that it is well presented and very reassuring brand from what looks to be a trusted and well-established company, 1st Phorm.

There is a video that is presented by energetic personal trainer Ryan Hansen as to the benefits of Opti-Greens 50. The video doesn’t give much information but it’s very persuasive and a great way to sell the benefits of these greens.

The bottle doesn’t blow me away but it’s clean and gives the basic information you should expect from a supplement.

I have recently looked at their reds powder too, you can read my Opti-Reds 50 review here.

Background on 1st Phorm

The company behind Opti-Greens 50 is 1st Phorm a company that has been around since 2006 producing supplements covering health, weight loss, and fitness. But that’s not all, they also stock a range of apparel, luggage, headwear, and various accessories too.

Andy Frisella 1st Phorm

These guys are more than a supplement brand but are definitely a lifestyle brand.

They are endorsed by a number of athletes from Andre Adams (Current IFBB Pro men’s physique athlete), Rachel Nicole (elite trainer), and various cross-fit trainers.

Rather impressively 1st Phorm Founder Andy Frisella has built a $175 million company from the ground up.

Opti-Greens 50 Ingredients

There are 50 ingredients in each serving of Opti Greens, which they claim are processed using a low temperature to ensure maximum bioavailability. This sounds great but I am not sure how one would go about testing the difference between this process and typical greens.

Although the product itself is not organic most of the Green superfoods are organic. I know from experience that it isn’t always possible to make greens supplement 100% organic, it’s very dependent on the ingredients chosen in your formula.

Each serving size is two scoops making it a total of 10 grams for all the ingredients below.

Green Superfood Complex (6,180mg)

Organic Barley Grass, Organic Spirulina, Organic Wheatgrass, Organic Alfalfa Grass, Organic Oat Grass, Organic Kale, Organic Spinach, Organic Parsley, Broccoli Extract

Glycemic Balance Blend (2,224mg)

Soluble Rice Bran, Stevia, Grape Seed Extract, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Cinnamon (Cinnamomum cassia) Extract, Green Tea (Camellia sinensis) Extract

Phytonutrient Complex (430mg)

Organic Beet Juice, Raspberry, Curcumin (from Organic Turmeric Root), Citrus containing Bioflavonoids, Wild Blueberry Extract, Strawberry, Cranberry, Wild Bilberry Extract, Elderberry Extract, Raspberry Seed Powder

Plant Enzyme Blend (200mg)

Amylase, Amylase II, Protease I, Protease II, Peptidase, Peptizyme-SP®, Lipase, Cellulase, HemiSEB®, Lactase, Maltase, Invertase, Papain, Bromelain, Rutin, AMLA

Probiotic Blend (1 billion CFU)

DDS-1 L. acidophilus, B. bifidum, B. longum, L. bulgaricus, L. plantarum, L. rhamnosus, L. salivarius, S. thermophilus, L. reuteri

To take Opti-Greens 50 it's suggested to mix 2 scoops to 8 ounces cold water or juice and to stir well. You can have 1 or more servings daily but consider if you have more than one then one tub won't last a full month.

How Does Opti-Greens 50 Taste?

It’s a fact that most greens powders are not great tasting. I know I have tried over 30 so far!

So to counteract often the grassy taste of these powders natural flavors are used. Opti Greens goes for a berry flavor that masks some of the unpleasant taste.

If the taste is an issue then you can always look to mix a scoop with your favorite smoothie. I sometimes drink my super greens with orange juice!

Side Effects

By taking the recommended dosage per day of Opti Greens and you should be free from side effects.

There are no stimulants inside this blend and the only ingredients that could possibly cause minor side effects are the probiotics. Some of the potential side effects of probiotics I have discussed in another article.

Does Opti-Greens 50 Actually Work?

There do seem like a lot of ingredients in each serving size and so my immediate concern is ingredient quantities. Are they enough of each ingredient to make any impact?

As is all too common with the greens supplements I look into and one that even 1st Phorm aren’t immune to – did you guess yet?

Yep the prolific use of proprietary blends for the ingredients that REALLY count!

A supplement is ONLY as good as the ingredients used and importantly THEIR amounts.

I go into why this is a bad practice in my experience in my in-depth article about proprietary supplement blends, but briefly, it’s impossible to substantiate ANY claims made by the manufacturer.

A supplement is ONLY as good as the ingredients used and importantly THEIR amounts. PERIOD.

The blend of 8 organic grasses and greens contains all the typical greens ingredients like Barley grass, spirulina, wheatgrass, kale, spinach, etc. Many of these ingredients have some evidence to show it's not only nutrient-dense but has a number of health benefits.

The claims are based on the amount of chlorophyll, antioxidants, and abundance of vitamins and minerals within them.

According to 1st Phorm, this has the equivalent vitamins and minerals of a 2oz shot of juiced greens. It’s impossible to substantiate this claim as we don’t know the amounts of each grass in the blend.

Opti-Greens 50 Reviews

There are literally hundreds of reviews on the official website, the most I have seen for a green supplement actually. At the time of writing this review, there are 12,580 available on the website.

Whilst this is VERY impressive it's worth pointing out these are on their own website and so no way of verifying them.

Here is a little sample of the customer reviews:

I’m a fan of the taste compared to other similar products. I also already feel better knowing that I’m getting my greens in when I don’t go for that salad. I’m definitely going to order again.Josaih

This is my first time ordering Opti-Greens 50 and I am pleasantly surprised! Although the taste is still very much like drinking a cup full of powdered veggiesAva

I ordered this product since I am at a plateau with losing weight. This is definitely helping and I feel so amazing after! I have always had stomach issues and I have never felt better!! It doesn't taste the best (in my opinion) but it is worth it for how well I feel!!Michelle

Money Back Guarantee / Returns Policy

The returns policy looks pretty good as 1st Phorm give a 110% money-back guarantee, where they state:

If you are unhappy with any 1st Phorm product for any reason or your results with it, it can be returned for a FULL REFUND + 10% (minus shipping costs).

You only get 30-days to try and to return the product though from the original purchase date.

Where to Buy Opti-Greens 50?

The 1st Phorm official website stocks Opti-Greens 50 on its own or within a few different combo packs – “the daily stack”, “Level up stack” and “ultimate fat loss stack”.

A one-time single tub purchase of Opti-Greens 50 costs $64.99. They do offer a subscription option delivered every month, for 2 or 3 weeks – this way can save you $10 per tub.

I checked and couldn’t find 1st Phorm products for sale on Amazon.com.

Is It Worth the Price?

I am not easily overwhelmed when it comes to supplements, probably because I simply have seen so many and am now somewhat immune to the marketing BS. That said Opti Greens is a refreshing change as there is value in this brand for sure.

To pay just $2 per day for one serving is a good price for this. It may be more expensive than the budget greens out there but in terms of value for money, I believe it’s worth it.

The serving size is reasonable but as already mentioned I have a little doubt about the size of some of the ingredient amounts. The main super green blend of 9 ingredients makes up the largest part of the formula though (6 grams) and so there should be some benefits in taking it.

The Bottom Line

It’s hard not to be impressed by Opti-Greens 50.

The company looks solid and is well established, and certainly not a fly-by-night operation.

They have a good returns policy albeit only 30-days and so would have been nice to have a little longer to ensure a good time to try out the products.

There are some great ingredients inside but the biggest downside for me is the lack of individual ingredient amounts. This is the biggest issue I have with most of the supplements out there these days.

The lack of transparency on ingredient amounts makes it impossible to assess how effective it could be.

So, although there is a lot going for Opti-Greens 50 I have some minor reservations over the use of a proprietary blend. That said, all things considered, it is good value for money! If you can get past the ingredient issue then it could be a solid buy.
