Available in both capsules and powdered form, Green Magic is a super greens formula produced by the health and wellness brand Proto-col. Although the brand specializes in collagen products, the Green Magic formula is one of its most popular products. Packed with potent superfoods from both the land and sea, the brand claims that the formula will both provide the consumer with an array of impressive health benefits.
Proto-col claims that this formula will not only provide the consumer with the essential nutrients they need for optimum daily health, but it will also support the immune system, help to combat tiredness, promote cardiovascular health, push toxins from the body and support healthy digestion.
The formula is award-winning, winning titles such as ‘Best Superfood Powder’ in the Beauty Shortlist Awards 2016.

Proto-col Green Magic First Impressions
I have to give it to the Proto-col brand, everything at first glance looks incredibly professional, informative, beautifully branded, and well thought through.
It’s clear to see why the Proto-col brand attracts so many customers, with everything from the free recipes and high-quality photographs to the detailed information and sleek design of the website grabbing my attention.
Taking a look at the Proto-col Green Magic formula, my first impression is very much the same – everything looks high quality, there’s an abundance of information, and the recipes and integrated Instagram feed add excitement.
The only thing that puts me off this formula on initial glance is the fact that the brand has chosen not to show a 360-degree view of the product, meaning each potential customer can’t see the ingredients label.
Background on Proto-col
Proto-col was founded in 2003 by Triathlete James Greenwell after he tore his Achilles tendon and realized how vital collagen was to his recovery. As someone that was Triathlete myself and has also dealt with a health issue that made me stop competing, I feel like I resonate with his story and think many others will.
Proto-col is based in the UK and produces mainly collagen supplements. However, the brand also (obviously, hence the review) produces superfood formulas, various herbal extracts, and mineral and vitamin supplements.
Proto-col Green Magic Benefits
Proto-col claims that the Green Magic formula, whether purchased in capsule form or in powdered form, provides the consumer with an array of impressive health benefits. As well as providing the consumer with vitamins and minerals such as folate, vitamin C, and potassium, it also includes dietary fiber and a high level of antioxidants.
The brand claims that the formula helps with combating tiredness and reducing fatigue, boosts the immune system, promotes cardiovascular health, and aids with normal, healthy digestion.
The high level of antioxidants, the brand also claims that the formula will help protect the body from free radicals, and push toxins from the body.
Proto-col Green Magic Ingredients
There are 16 ingredients in the Proto-col Green Magic formula, all of which are vegan, lactose-free, dairy-free, and gluten-free. Unfortunately, although I was invested and excited about the formula at first glance, the ingredients list has let this formula down for me.
The brand hasn’t added the amounts of any of the ingredients, making it nearly impossible for the consumer to figure out whether the formula will actually work or not, but more on that later.
- Ingredients: Soy Lecithin, Rice Kernel Membrane Powder, Kamut Wheat Grass Juice, High Apple Fibre, Barley Grass Juice, Hawaiin Spirulina, Broken Cell Wall Chlorella, Jerusalem Artichoke Powder, Buckwheat Sprouts, Icelandic Kelp, Nova Scotia Dulse, Apple Pectin, CO enzyme (CO-Q-10), SOD w/catalase, Bifidus bacteria (lactose-free), Lactobacillus Acidophilus (lactose-free).
How does Proto-col Green Magic Taste?
The Green Magic formula doesn’t have any flavoring ingredients and therefore the taste of the formula is natural. Although, unlike a lot of other unflavoured super greens formulas on the market, this formula doesn’t taste overwhelmingly strong. In fact, the formula is smooth, refreshing and can also easily be disguised depending on what you add it into.
Proto-col has added an array of recipes onto its website for this formula and is really pushing for people to use it to cook with, bake with and sprinkle onto foods. This is a really smart move, as the natural taste will not only be easily disguised when adding to other ingredients, but it’ll also bring a fresh taste of greens into food.
Obviously, the Green Magic capsules don’t have any taste, and therefore if you are really put off by the taste of super greens formulas normally, you might want to take a look at these.
Side Effects
You shouldn’t experience any side effects when consuming the Proto-col Green Magic formula as all of the ingredients are natural and the formula is vegan, dairy-free, lactose-free, and gluten-free.
However, as I say about any supplement, if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, under 18 years old, or on any type of medication, you should always consult a doctor before consuming.
Does Proto-col Green Magic Work?
This is the big question that I’m trying to answer, and I wish I could because everything else about the formula and the Proto-col brand seems impressive.
Unfortunately, because the brand hasn’t added the information about the amount of any of the ingredients within the formula, I can’t figure out whether the formula will work or not.
By not giving the consumer the ability to see how much of any of the ingredients they’re consuming and to figure out whether the formula will work or not, the brand is giving the consumer no choice but to trust them. It definitely doesn’t make the brand look very transparent.
The serving size is one of the smallest I have reviewed when it comes to superfood brands. This means that some of the ingredients will be in tiny amounts that will unlikely have much effect at all.
There aren’t even any indicators as to the amount of each ingredient, so, unfortunately, I simply can’t see whether the formula will actually work or not.

Is It Worth The Price?
Proto-col recommends taking at least 3g of the formula per day, but for maximum results, it recommends 9g per day. This means that depending on how many servings you consume, the cost per serving will obviously differ.
One tub of Proto-col Green Magic powder contains 180g, meaning there are either 60 days if you take 3g per day or 20 servings you take 9g per day. This tub costs $29.95 and this works out at a cost per serving of either $0.49 if you take 3g per day, or $1.50 if you take 9g per day.
This is a huge difference!
One tub of Proto-col Green Magic contains 150 capsules contains and the brand recommends 5 capsules per day, meaning there are 30 servings. This tub costs $19.95 and therefore the cost per serving is $0.65.

My Final Verdict
Initially, I was really impressed by not only this formula but by the Proto-col brand as a whole.
Every single box is ticked by this formula, apart from the most important one – no one knows whether this formula will actually work or not because the amount of the ingredients aren’t listed.
The small serving size in both the capsule and powder versions of Green Magic means that the ingredients will lack that superfood punch – simply because of underdosing.
This is a real shame, but I'm going to have to say that unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend this formula as I know there are formulas on the market with full lists of ingredients by transparent brands.
