Sakara Protein and Greens review

Sakara Protein + Greens Review

Sakara Protein + Greens is a protein and super greens powder that contains a variety of plant-based proteins and a selection of potent algae and grass ingredients.

The formula is not only supposed to provide a variety of micronutrients and proteins but it’s also supposed to support lean muscle, provide satiation, push toxins from the body.

Sakara Protein + Greens is a USDA certified organic, gluten-free, dairy-free, non-GMO, and vegan formula, meaning it’s suitable for a wide range of people!

Sakara Life is a big and incredibly popular company, and therefore, I’m keen to take a closer look to see if this protein and greens formula is really all that it’s hyped up to be!

So, if you’re thinking of purchasing Sakara Protein + Greens, or you also want to take a closer look at it, check out my full Sakara Protein + Greens review below.

What is Sakara Protein + Greens?

Sakara is a huge company and the website reflects that – it’s packed with information, it’s beautifully designed, and the visuals and branding is spot on! I really like the website.

The Protein + Greens formula also makes a good first impression, the pouch looks sleek, bold, and eye-catching!

However, it would’ve been nice to see more factual information about the formula on the product page – it’s all a little glossy and lacking real facts for me.

Background on Sakara

Sakara, known fully as Sakara Life, is a nutrition and lifestyle brand that was founded in 2012 by best friends, Danielle Duboise and Whitney Tingle.

The brand started by providing a plant-based meal delivery service all over the US, and it’s still best known for that, but it does also produce nutritional supplements and gift collections.

Sakara Protein + Greens Benefits

Sakara Protein + Greens is supposed to support lean muscle, provide satiation, push toxins from the body, and provide a high dose of protein!

Additionally, the formula is supposed to provide high concentrations of phytonutrients, iron, enzymes, and magnesium.

Sakara Protein + Greens Ingredients

Sakara Protein + Greens contains 11 ingredients, including flavoring ingredients and sweeteners. The ingredients label is not fully disclosed due to the fact that the formula contains proprietary blends.

Therefore, it’s hard to work out the efficacy of the formula!

However, I’ll be looking more closely at that later in this review. First, let’s take a look at the ingredients label.

Here is the complete list of the Sakara Protein + Greens ingredients:

  • Plant Protein Blend – 17g –Organic Pea Protein, Organic Hemp Protein, Organic Pumpkin Seed Protein, Organic Sesame Protein.
  • Super Greens Blend – 700mg –Organic Spirulina, Organic Wheatgrass, Organic Organic Barley Grass, Organic Chlorella.
  • Other Ingredients –Organic Coconut Milk Powder, Organic Coconut Sugar (1% Stevia Blend), Organic Vanilla Powder.

How does Sakara Protein + Greens Taste?

The Sakara Protein + Greens formula is flavored with vanilla flavoring and coconut sugar.

However, unfortunately, customer reviews concerning the taste of the formula are not very positive!

A lot of customers claim that the formula tastes like vomit, which obviously isn’t ideal!

Side Effects

There are no side effects associated with the Sakara Protein + Greens formula.

However, I would suggest that if you are pregnant, nursing, on medication, or have a medical condition, you should consult a doctor before consumption.

Does Sakara Protein + Greens Work?

The Sakara Protein + Greens formula does not have a fully disclosed label due to the fact that it is made up of proprietary blends. Therefore, it’s impossible to know how much of each ingredient actually exists within the formula.

However, we can take a look at the blends and the recommended doses of the ingredients within them, to see if they have the ability to be sufficiently dosed.

So, let’s take a look at the Plant Protein Blend! This protein blend contains several plant-based proteins, but the overall dose of protein is 17g.

The recommended amount of protein per day is 0.36g per pound of body weight, so for the average man, this is 56g per day, and for the average woman, this works out at 46g per day.

Therefore, this blend provides nearly half of the daily recommended dose of protein, which is incredibly good!

The formula provides a high dose of protein, but the greens within it can’t be sufficiently dosed.

However, looking at the Super Greens Blend, it’s clear that the ingredients within the blend are not sufficiently dosed!

The blend totals 700mg, but the best spirulina brands have the recommended dose of 1g or more, wheatgrasses are 3g, and chlorella is 2g. Therefore, it’s clear that the formula does not provide sufficiently dosed ingredients.

So, overall, the formula provides a high dose of protein, but the greens within it can’t be sufficiently dosed. Therefore, this may as well just be marketed as a protein powder.

Sakara Protein + Greens Reviews

Although there are nearly 1,000 customer reviews of the formula on the Sakara website, they may be biased.

However, Sakara Protein + Greens is available on Amazon and therefore we can take a look on there to see honest reviews of the formula!

Overall, the formula has 36 global ratings and it scores 3.6 stars out of 5.

Unfortunately, it seems that many people that have ordered through Amazon have received expired batches, which could be the reason behind the low overall rating!

So, let’s take a look at some of these reviews!

Had complicated surgery 5 years ago. Suddenly, Sephora began carrying this (on-line only) and for some reason the description made me buy this. The results were immediate. No pain, clear skin. Have been able to stop using 2 medications. I have bought this at Sakara, Sephora, and Amazon. This is a wonderful product.5-star review

After reading the reviews I thought I wouldn’t be given an expired batch… but I was. Really disappointing.2-star review

This is the worst thing I have ever tasted in my life. As two of the other reviewers state, it tastes like literal vomit. I’m not sure how something like this can even be on the market. It leaves a taste in your mouth afterward like you just threw up. Please do not waste your money trying this product. I wish I had read the reviews prior to purchasing. It is absolutely disgusting! Undrinkable!
1-star review

Money-Back Guarantee / Returns Policy

Sakara doesn’t provide a money-back guarantee, and they do not offer returns either.

Where to buy Sakara Protein + Greens?

You can buy Sakara Protein + Greens from the Sakara website, or from Amazon.

Is It Worth The Price?

You can buy Sakara Protein + Greens in a 10-single-serving sachet box or a 30-serving pouch.

Additionally, if you want to purchase a 30-serving pouch of formula, you can either purchase it on a single purchase or on a subscription.

  • A 10-single-serving sachet box has a cost per serving of $4.50
  • A 30-serving pouch on a one-time purchase costs $3.00
  • A 30-serving pouch on a subscription option costs $2.67

Since the formula definitely doesn’t provide a sufficient dose of greens ingredients, I think the formula is sold at a particularly high price!

A cost per serving of $4.50 is incredibly high!

However, if you’re looking for a plant-based protein powder, the 30-serving pouch on a subscription option is more reasonably priced at a cost per serving of $2.67.

My Final Verdict

My first impression of Sakara was really positive, and to be honest, I’m sure the company does provide some good quality supplements.

Regarding the Sakara Protein + Greens formula, I'm in two minds about it.

If you’re looking for a plant-based protein formula, this could be a good choice for you since it contains a high dose of protein.

However, if you’re looking to benefit from the greens within the formula, you’re going to be disappointed.

Unfortunately, there’s no way that the greens within the formula are sufficiently dosed. So, you’re not going to benefit from them!

It’s also a very, very expensive formula!

So, if you’re looking for a plant-based protein powder and you’re not bothered about the price, this might be a good formula for you. However, if you’re looking to benefit from greens, look elsewhere!

  1. Confirming the reviews are correct. Just got a sample in the mail and tried it in my smoothie and immediately threw up after one taste.
