Sunfood Supergreens Review: Ingredients, Dosages, Serving Costs

Sunfood Supergreens is a super greens formula that contains 19 superfood ingredients as well as a whole host of different enzymes and probiotics, produced by the Californian family-run brand, Sunfood Superfoods.

The Sunfood Supergreens formula is CCDF certified organic, certified non-GMO, raw vegan, and gluten-free. The brand claims that it supports digestive health, boosts the immune system, alkalizes the body, and provides long-lasting energy.

I’m really looking forward to taking a closer look at this formula, especially because organic diets and raw vegan diets have become much more popular in recent years.

What is Sunfood Supergreens?

At first glance, Sunfood Supergreens looks like an impressive product. The brand clearly states the ingredients in the product information which I really appreciate, and the information about the formula is clear and concise. It would’ve been nice to see some more information about the specific benefits of the formula.

The branding of the actual formula itself is super modern and appealing, but the Sunfood Superfoods website as a whole seems outdated and not that aesthetically pleasing.

However, overall, my first impression of Sunfood Supergreens is good, and at an initial glance, this is probably a formula I would purchase. Let’s just hope that the ingredients list is as good!

Background on Sunfood Superfoods

Sunfood Superfoods was founded in 1995 in California. The brand is family-run and was created to provide people that struggle with consuming the right amount of nutrients through their diet with high-quality, potent, nutritional supplements.

Although the Sunfood Supergreens formula is one of the most popular produced by the brand, it also produces everything from bee pollen and flaxseed to shea butter and skincare balm. With a wide range of products, Sunfood Superfoods is a one-stop-shop for well-being needs.

As well as providing the consumer with an array of superfood supplements, Sunfood Superfoods also runs a Partner Farms program, increasing the lives of farmers and their families all around the globe, from South America to the Philippines.

Sunfood Supergreens Benefits

Sunfood Superfoods claims that this super greens formula with probiotics and enzymes will boost the immune system, support digestion, increase energy levels, alkalize the body, push toxins from the body, increase metabolism and provide the consumer with the necessary nutrients needed for the optimum level of daily health.

Although the brand doesn’t mention it on its site, if you take a look at the product on Amazon, you can see that the brand shows each vitamin that’s present in the mix, and explains what health benefits come from them.

For example, “Vitamin B9 which may support healthy brain development and normal heart health”. This is really useful if the consumer isn’t necessarily aware of which vitamins provide which benefits.

Sunfood Supergreens Ingredients

There are 27 ingredients in the Sunfood Supergreens formula, all of which are certified organic, non-GMO, raw vegan, and gluten-free. However, as wonderful as all of these certifications are, I cannot get past the fact that the brand hasn’t included the amount of any of the ingredients.

However, I’ll be taking a look at whether the formula will work or not later in this review and so I’ll have to hold back my frustration until then.

First, let’s take a look at the ingredients.

  • Spirulina Powder (Arthrospira platensis), Chlorella Powder (Broken Cell Wall chlorella vulgaris), Whole Leaf Wheat Grass, Nettle Leaf Powder, Burdock Root, Alfalfa Leaf, Whole Leaf Barley Grass, Barley Grass Juice Powder, Broccoli Powder, Nopal Cactus Powder, Dandelion Leaf, Kale Powder, Oat Grass Juice Powder, Parsley Leaf Powder, Horsetail, Spinach Powder.
  • Probiotic Complex (Lactobacillus Acidophilus, Lactobacillus Casei, Bifidobacterium Bifidum, Bifidobacterium Lactis).
Enzyme Complex (Papain from Papaya, Bromelain from Pineapple, Vegetarian Pepsin).
  • Kelp Powder, Dulse Powder, Ginger Root.

How does Sunfood Supergreens Taste?

As this formula isn’t flavored at all, there’s a lot of mixed reviews about the taste of it. If you’re used to the taste of natural super greens powders then this formula will be easy to drink, and in fact, probably seem quite light and less ‘grassy’ than other formulas.

However, if you’re not used to consuming super greens, this might taste too natural for you if you just mix it with water, so you might want to try and disguise it in juice or a smoothie.

Side Effects

There is a side effect warning on this formula, saying that it has been known to cause cleansing reactions, and if you’re pregnant or taking medication, you should consult your doctor first.

In addition, there’s also a health warning label that has to be there due to Californian law, saying that the formula may contain substances that can cause birth defects and reproductive harm.

Does Sunfood Supergreens Work?

The thing that frustrates me most about this product is the fact that there aren’t any amounts shown for any of the ingredients.

If you’ve read any of my reviews before you’ll be fully aware of how much proprietary blends make me frustrated, but this is even worse.

Even if the formula contained proprietary blends, I might have been able to take an estimated guess as to whether the formula would work or not, but with no information, I have absolutely no idea if this formula will work. The only information we are given about the product is the amount of a small selection of vitamins within it.

It seems such a shame that a brand that has gone through all of the effort to use organic ingredients, to get the formula certified organic and non-GMO, and to market the superfood ingredients within the formula so much, just to not include the amount of each ingredient.

Unfortunately, this is pretty much a dealbreaker for me.

Sunfood Supergreens Reviews

Taking a look at Amazon at the Sunfood Supergreens formula there are 107 reviews. Overall, the formula has a rating of 4.5 stars out of 5 stars.

Let’s take a look at a selection of the reviews below.

I love this product. I’m a huge green smoothie fan, but my husband has always been more of a straight berry or fruit smoothie guy. I wanted to find something that helped incorporate more value to his post-workout smoothie or breakfast smoothie. This product has done the trick. Also, I am pregnant and this product helps give me important nutrients even on days when I do not have much of an appetite.5-star review

I started adding this spirulina powder to my morning smoothies. Both my husband and I are constipated and I was wondering if others had that reaction. Also, I would love to know where the Spirulina is from as it isn't written on the package2-star review

Ok so I ordered three different types of these powders, on the back of each packet it says, “Warning this product to contain a chemical known in the state of California to cause birth defect or other reproductive harm” plz ladies don't take these if you want a baby in future if u r pregnant, I sent a mail to the seller asking what is this you’re harming us she/he said yes it’s kinda overacting different to female bodies, plz plz don't take these.1-star review

Money-Back Guarantee / Returns Policy

Sunfood Superfoods doesn’t have a money-back guarantee. If you want to return the product, you have to do so within 30 days of purchase and you have to confirm the return with the brand beforehand.

The product also has to be returned unopened and unused, and you have to pay for the shipping.

Where to buy Sunfood Supergreens?

You can buy Sunfood Supergreens from the Sunfood Superfood website, from Amazon, Walmart, and other third party retailers, and even in selected stores in the US.

Is It Worth The Price?

One tub of Sunfood Supergreens costs $29.99, and with each tub containing 22 servings, this works out at a cost per serving of $1.36.

There’s no flat-fee shipping rate and the brand ships internationally. The only shipping information available on the brand’s website is that if you’re based in the USA and you spend more than $49 shipping is free.

This is quite an expensive cost per serving due to the fact the consumer will never even know how much of each ingredient exists within the formula.

My Final Verdict

Unfortunately, my first impressions lead to high-set expectations of the formula which were shattered as soon as I looked at the ingredients list. At first glance, this formula is really appealing and seems to include some potent, high-quality ingredients.

The formula is also so attractive because it’s certified organic, certified non-GMO, and 100% raw vegan.

As soon as I looked at the ingredients list and saw that the amount of each ingredient isn’t shown to the consumer, I lost faith in the formula.

I want to know what's inside my supplement, and you should too. Just how much of each ingredient resides in the formula? Ultimately we can never be able to work out whether the formula actually provided the claimed health benefits to the consumer.

Overall I’m going to have to say that I don’t recommend this formula as I believe there are much more transparent brands and potent formulas out there at the same price point.

  1. Although after consuming this product I feel more energized, like a wider sense of cognitive functioning. This is the first super-greens supplement I’ve tried. I reckon that for someone searching for increased green intake, this product is better than no greens at all. I think the combo of all the ingredients is what helps the main ingredients function. I found this discounted at $12 in a Walmart.

For the best solution, it is good to invest in a dehydrator and produce your own. There is nothing wrong with that. Make some for your friends, or gather a group of friends to invest in one and be like strong hulks! (Minus the anger). Thank God!
