Sunny Green review

Sunny Green Cleansing Green Review

Cleansing Green, by superfood supplement brand Sunny Green, is a super greens formula containing grass, algae, veggies, digestive enzymes, probiotics, and prebiotics. The formula is vegetarian and vegan-friendly, dairy-free, and contains organic ingredients, although the formula as a whole isn’t certified organic.

The formula is packed with micronutrient-rich ingredients, and sold at a fairly affordable price, hence it’s quite popular on the market with low-budget shoppers and those just starting out on their super greens journey.

Having been around for nearly two decades, I’m really keen to take a closer look at Sunny Green, and in particular, the Cleansing Green formula, to see why it’s had such success over such a long period of time.

If you’re thinking about purchasing this formula or you’re keen to take a look at another super greens review on Lifehacker Guy, check out my full Sunny Green Cleansing Green review below.

Sunny Green Cleansing Green First Impressions

Taking a look at the Sunny Green landing page, I have to say that I’m pleased that the website seems modern, visually pleasing and it contains informative content. The website even has a blog, albeit a very small one with a few articles.

However, as soon as I click onto the Cleansing Green product page, I’m left feeling underwhelmed and the brand really shows its age here (it’s over 20 years old!). Everything looks a little outdated, and it’s not that the page has a lack of information, but that the information is badly shown.

Everything simply feels old, with information crammed into one text box, with links not working, and with a lack of visuals of the formula.

I have to say, I’m nowhere near as impressed by the Cleansing Green product page as I am with the Sunny Green homepage, but hopefully, it’s not all about looks and the formula will show me what it’s really made of as I review it.

Background on Sunny Green

Founded over 20 years ago in 1997, Sunny Green is a brand that believes in all things green, as the brand name suggests! Specifically selling superfood powders (mostly green) and liquid concentrates, the brand has become well-known as a superfood powder go-to.

The brand’s main aim is to make nutrition easy for people, marketing strongly the fact that all of the formulas can be easily consumed and added to daily routines. The Cleansing Green formula is one of the brand’s oldest products and best sellers.

Sunny Green Cleansing Green Benefits

As I said above, it’s not that there’s a lack of information on the Sunny Green website (and the Cleansing Green product page in particular) but it’s all bunched together and not laid out clearly. So, it’s difficult to actually figure out what the benefits of this formula are quickly.

I think it would be beneficial for the brand to really make these benefits jump out, rather than hiding them in lots of text.

The brand claims that the formula will support natural health while energizing the body and providing essential micronutrients. The formula is also supposed to support cleansing, support the digestive system, and help with nutrient absorption.

Sunny Green Cleansing Green Ingredients

Sunny Green Cleansing Green contains 15 ingredients, not including the flavoring and sweetening ingredients. Unfortunately, the amount of each of these ingredients is unknown because the formula contains proprietary blends.

I’m going to take a closer look at the efficacy of this formula later on in the review, where I’ll explain the problems that occur when using proprietary blends.

But for now, let’s take a look at the formula’s ingredients list.

Here is the complete list of the ingredients:

  • 5 Green SuperFoods Blend (5.45g) – Organic Alfalfa (Medicago sativa), Organic Spirulina (Arthrospira platensis), Green Apple, Organic Wheatgrass Juice (Triticum vulgare), and Organic Barley Grass (Hordeum vulgare)
  • 3 Green Super Veggies Blend (1.55g) – Spinach, Kale, Organic Broccoli
  • Green Super Nutrients Blend (60mg) – Broccoli Seed Extract (Supplying 3mg [10%] sulforaphane) and Chlorophyllin.
  • Pre & Probiotics plus Enzyme Blend (155mg) – Organic Inulin (Agave), Bacillus Coagulans (Supplying 500 million shelf-stable probiotics), Amylase, Protease & Lipase
  • Other Ingredients – Natural Green Apple Flavor with other natural flavors, Malic Acid, Maltodextrin, Stevia Leaf Extract

Here is the supplement facts label:

How does it Taste?

The formula is flavored and sweetened using natural flavors, malic acid, maltodextrin, and stevia leaf extract. There aren’t a lot of reviews about this formula online, but the ones that do exist, are positive about the taste of the formula.

However, I’m not crazy about the use of maltodextrin in the formula, as it can spike blood sugar levels.

Side Effects

There’s no information on the Sunny Green website about potential side effects of the Cleansing Green formula, and there aren’t any photos of the sides of the tub, where a warning label would typically be.

However, looking at the product photos on Amazon I have found that the formula does have a Prop 65 warning, which is a Californian state warning label telling consumers that there could be an ingredient within this product that causes birth defects and cancer.

Sunny Green has an entire section of their website dedicated to explaining the Prop 65 warning, essentially claiming that the warning is unfairly given.

Apart from this warning, there doesn’t seem to be any other warnings. I wouldn’t recommend this product for anyone under 18, with a medical condition, pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking medication. If you are in any of these categories and you do want to consume this formula or any new supplement, please speak to your doctor first.

Does Cleansing Green Work?

The Cleansing Green formula is made up of proprietary blends, as mentioned above. Proprietary blends are a nightmare when it comes to working out the efficacy of a formula, because rather than the amount of every ingredient being shown, the amount of each blend (containing multiple ingredients) is shown.

This means it’s impossible to come to a factual conclusion of whether the ingredients are sufficiently dosed or not, and if they’re not, the formula might not actually produce the benefits that the brand claims it will.

Seeing as the number of ingredients in this formula are small, and the blends are fairly heavy weighted, it’s possible to make an informed estimation of whether the formula contains sufficiently dosed ingredients and will work or not.

Spirulina Algae powder

Looking at the 5 Green Superfoods blend, the wheatgrass and spirulina in the formula have a combined recommended dose of 4g, and with the blend weighing 5.45g, these ingredients could very well be sufficiently dosed, which is a good sign and not something I frequently say when looking at proprietary blends.

However, my concern with this formula is that it contains chlorophyllin, which is a semi-synthetic chemical that derives from chlorophyll. Not only is it disappointing that there’s a semi-synthetic chemical in this formula, but chlorophyllin also doesn’t provide the same benefits as chlorophyll in its natural form would.

Overall, it’s not possible to figure out whether the formula contains sufficiently dosed ingredients and will work, but some of them could be sufficiently dosed due to heavily weighted blends that contain small numbers of ingredients.

Sunny Green Cleansing Green Reviews

Sunny Green Cleansing Green is available on Amazon and iHerb, but there are only four reviews on both of these sites, all of which are five stars. Maybe the product really is that good, or maybe the brand hasn’t actually sold a lot of these formulas, hence the reason for the small number of reviews.

Nonetheless, although there’s not a lot of variation in these reviews, there are all we have to look at, so let’s take a look at them. One review comes from Amazon and the other one is from iHerb.

Taste great. Definitely “moves” things around. Better price on here than buying locally.5-star reviewer

I have it for every morning in my smoothie!! So delicious and nourishing!!5-star reviewer

Money-Back Guarantee / Returns Policy

Sunny Green offers a 60-day money-back guarantee on all of their products, so if you’re unhappy with your purchase, you can send it back to them and get a full refund.

Where to buy?

You can buy Sunny Green Cleansing Green formula from the Sunny Green website, from Amazon, from Walmart, or from iHerb.

Is It Worth The Price?

Cleansing Green is sold in tubs containing 20 servings of formula and costs $24.79. This means that the cost per serving works out at $1.24.

I think it’s slightly odd that the brand hasn’t decided to sell the formula in bigger tubs, as it’s typical or powdered supplements to be sold in 30-day containers. Unlike other brands, Sunny Green also doesn’t provide a discount option for bulk orders or a subscription option.

However, you can save 15% off your first order by signing up for the Sunny Green newsletter.

I have to say, although the formula does contain proprietary blends, seeing as they’re heavily weighted, I think it’s reasonably priced and a good option for those with a low budget that still want to remain healthy.

The Bottom Line

Although the Sunny Green Cleansing Green formula does contain proprietary blends, and there could be the potential for some ingredients within the formula to not be sufficiently dosed, I have to say that I understand why low-budget shoppers choose this formula …

It’s cheap, it’s tasty, it has a good amount of potent ingredients in it and the brand has been around for over two decades!

Overall, I think this is a good formula for low-budget shoppers or for those just getting into super greens formulas.

However, if you really want to feel the benefits of a super greens drink and properly invest in good nutrition, you need to be consuming a greens powder that has a fully disclosed ingredients list and contains sufficiently dosed ingredients.
