Zupa Protein GREENZ review

Zupa Protein GREENZ Review

Zupa Protein GREENZ is an alkalizing super greens and protein powder formula produced by popular New Zealand based supplement brand, Xtend Life. The formula is promoted as being a perfect supplement for those wanting to increase their nutrition, increase muscle tone, and achieve a healthy pH balance.

The formula contains 9g of pure New Zealand produced whey protein that provides the consumer with the entire range of essential amino acids needed for optimum health, as well as a selection of superfoods and powerful extracts that each provide specific health benefits.

Due to the fact that the formula contains whey protein, it isn’t vegan,. However, it is vegetarian-friendly, gluten-free, and nut-free.

I mentioned Zupa Protein GREENZ in my post about the best greens powders for protein, so think it’s only fitting that I do a full review on the formula on it, so let’s get to it!

If you’re keen to take a closer look at this formula, take a look at my full review of e Zupa Protein GREENZ below.

Zupa Protein & Greenz

What is Zupa Protein GREENZ?

Taking a look at the Xtend Life website, the first impression that I get from the brand is that it’s very serious about its products, and that’s good news!

Rather than seeing vibrant colors and illustrations on the packaging, Xtend Life uses simple, sleek branding that looks much more scientific than other brands on the market – although I typically like a bit of color and eyecatching visuals, I really like the approach that Xtend Life has.

I also really appreciate that the website has a health hub that contains a blog and a variety of Youtube videos produced by Warren Matthews, the co-founder of Xtend Life.

Looking at the Zupa Protein GREENZ formula, in particular, there’s more color and design when it comes to the packaging, but it’s still refined and looks classic. The product page is impressive, containing a vast amount of informative copy about the formula and the benefits that the formula provides.

I have to say that so far, I’m impressed by the formula and the brand as a whole, so I’m looking forward to taking a closer look at what’s actually inside the formula.

Background on Xtend Life

Xtend-Life Natural Products was founded in 2000 by Warren Matthews and his son, Lance Matthews. The brand has become one of the most popular supplement suppliers in New Zealand, focusing on producing supplements made from pure, high-quality ingredients.

Wherever possible the brand uses ingredients from New Zealand, and every product the brand produces is made in New Zealand, with a concentration on locally sourced ingredients and small production.

The Zupa Protein GREENZ formula is amongst some of the best-sellers produced by the brand. However, Xtend life creates a wide range of products, featuring everything from essential vitamins and mineral capsules and superfood powders to cleansers and facial serums – there certainly is something for everyone!

Zupa Protein GREENZ Benefits

Xtend Life is very confident that the Zupa Protein GREENZ formula will provide the consumer with a wide range of benefits. On the formula’s product page, each benefit has an extensive explanation below it. Personally, I think that it’s great to be informative and educate consumers, so I’m all for it!

Get ready for a long list of health benefits.

The brand claims that the formula will balance pH levels, increasing alkalinity, support the metabolism and aid with weight management, boost energy levels, support healthy bones, support the healthy microflora of the gut, pushes toxins from the body, protect the cells from radical damage, and support healthy hair, skin, and nails.

Zupa Protein GREENZ Ingredients

Zupa Protein GREENZ contains 14 ingredients excluding 4 flavoring ingredients.

There is information about the amounts of seven of these ingredients, but the other seven ingredients exist within a superfood proprietary blend, which is a huge shame! However, I’ll be looking more into why this is such a problem a little bit further down in this review.

Here is the complete list of Zupa Protein GREENZ ingredients:

  • Calcium (from Red Algae (Lithothamnium species) and Calcium Ascorbate) – 85mg
  • Iron (from Red Algae (Lithothamnium species) – 0.5mg
  • Whey Protein Concentrate – 9.8g
  • Spirulina – 2.1g
  • Chlorella – 317mg
  • Apple Fiber Powder – 219mg
  • Green Tea Leaf Extract – 36mg
  • Proprietary New Zealand Superfood Blend (1.7g) – Grape Juice Powder, Kiwifruit Powder, Barley Grass, Wheat Grass, Grape Seed Extract, Grape Skin Extract, Kiwifruit Extract
  • Other Ingredients – Banana Flavor, Stevia Glycosides, Citric Acid (Preservative), Malic Acid.

Here is the supplement facts label:

How does Zupa Protein GREENZ Taste?

Zupa Protein GREENZ is banana-flavored, and it also contains stevia to sweeten the taste.

Although the formula does taste nice if you’re a fan of banana, you can still taste the greens in the mix, so it may be difficult for some people to enjoy if they’re not used to consuming super greens (check out my list of best tasting greens powders).

Side Effects

Xtend Life doesn’t give any warnings on the Zupa Protein GREENZ formula. In fact, the brand states that the formula is safe for all ages, and suitable for young children and the elderly.

Although there shouldn’t be any side effects from this formula, I would recommend that if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, under 18, or have a medical condition, you should speak to your doctor before consumption.

Does Zupa Protein GREENZ Work?

What I find very strange about the Zupa Protein Greens ingredients list is the fact that some of the ingredients have their amounts attached, and others exist within a proprietary blend.

To me, it doesn’t make sense for a brand to go to the effort to show the amounts of certain ingredients and then add a proprietary blend to the mix!

Proprietary blends make it impossible for the consumer to know much of each ingredient exists within a formula, making it harder to figure out if the formula will actually work or not.

The proprietary blend contains 7 ingredients and only weighs in at 1.7g, so it’s unlikely that each ingredient will be sufficiently dosed.

Nonetheless, Xtend Life has added a proprietary blend to this formula, so we need to try and figure out if the formula will actually work using the facts that we do know.

The first thing we know is that there’s 9g of protein within the formula. The recommended amount of protein per day is 0.8g per 1kg of body weight, meaning that the average man that has a sedentary lifestyle should be consuming 56g of protein per day.

Unlike other formulas that contain higher amounts of protein (20-25g), this isn’t as nutritious in this sense. However, the 9g of protein within this formula will still help with reaching the daily recommended dose and provide health benefits.

The formula contains a sufficient amount of spirulina (2.1g) and the recommended daily dose sits between 1-3g, but the amount of chlorella falls short (317mg) and the daily recommended dose sits between 2-5 grams.

The proprietary blend contains 7 ingredients and only weighs in at 1.7g, so it’s unlikely that each ingredient will be sufficiently dosed.

Essentially, it’s simply unclear whether all of the ingredients within the Zupa Protein GREENZ formula will actually be sufficiently dosed and provide health benefits to the consumer.

Zupa Protein GREENZ Reviews

Unfortunately, the Zupa Protein GREENZ doesn’t have very many reviews at all.

In fact, there’s only 1 review on Amazon and 2 reviews on the Xtend Life website. For a brand and a product that’s supposed to be incredibly popular, it does concern me that there aren’t many reviews of the product.

However, all of the three reviews that do exist are 5-star reviews!

Let’s take a look at the one from Amazon.

Very nice product, good ingredients (I dont buy rubbish, or at least dont give feedback on rubbish) worth buying Price maybe issue for some5-star review

Money-Back Guarantee / Returns Policy

Xtend Life offers a fantastic 365-day money-back guarantee on all of its products.

This is one of the few companies that offer such a great money-back guarantee. Only Yuri Energy Greens and my own brand, SuperGreen TONIK I have seen offer a one-year guarantee!

Where to buy Zupa Protein GREENZ?

You can buy Zupa Protein GREENZ from the Xtend Life website or from Amazon.

Is It Worth The Price?

One tub of Zupa Protein GREENZ costs $29.75 and contains 15 servings, which works out at a cost per serving of $1.98.

Unlike other brands that offer subscription options and discounted bulk buys, Xtend Life doesn’t offer this. However, if you do spend over $60 you qualify for free shipping!

I have to say that I do find this formula a little bit on the pricey side due to the fact that it contains a proprietary blend.

However, I do understand that the ingredients are all locally sourced where possible so that will put the price up.

The Bottom Line

I think the Xtend Life brand is great. I really appreciate the fact the brand uses local ingredients wherever possible and makes everything in New Zealand.

I also do think that this is a good formula, the only problem for me is the fact that the ingredients label isn’t fully disclosed, and I find it a little strange that the formula has only 3 customer reviews.

I think if you’re looking more for a protein supplement but you’d be interested in getting some superfood benefits too, this is a good formula to try.

If you’re a bit like me and you want to make sure that you know exactly what you’re consuming, it’s probably best that you look at another product.
