Kachava Superfood review

Ka’Chava Review: Expensive Superfood Supplement?

Ka'Chava, first showcased to the world in 2014, is marketed as an all-in-one superfood meal. The formula contains everything from protein and fiber to digestive enzymes and adaptogens, and of course, it’s packed with super greens!

The formula focuses on all of the main areas of health, with the brand claiming that the formula will boost immunity, increase energy levels, support digestion, reduce bloating, aid with weight management, boost metabolism, and more!

With such a long list of ingredients and claimed health benefits, I’m keen to take a closer look at the Ka’Chava formula to see if it lives up to its name and popularity.

What is Ka'Chava?

As soon as you land on the Ka’Chava website, you get the impression that the brand is well established and the formula is powerful. With so many images of fit and healthy people all over the site, you feel compelled to go out and exercise and have good nutrition – the branding certainly inspires you.

Although the website is beautifully laid out and the branding is spot-on, what I really like about Ka’Chava at first glance is the fact that the website has so much informative content!

There’s information about all of the superfood ingredients within the formula, as well as a huge range of health benefits information, relating each health benefit to specific ingredients!

Unboxing Ka'chava superfood

As someone that really appreciates transparency and clear, informative content, I really appreciate that the brand has gone to town with the information on the site.

Overall, my first impression of the Ka’Chava formula is really positive and I’m hoping that the formula lives up to these expectations that I already have formed when I look more closely at it!

Background on Ka’Chava

Ka'Chava was founded in 2014 by Simon Malone. Whilst traveling in Thailand a few years earlier, Malone realized how much he wished for a whole-body meal that would provide him with essential nutrients straight away.

Not being able to find an all-in-one supplement that benefitted the entire body, Malone decided to create his own, and that’s when the birth of Ka'Chava happened!

Ka’Chava is a brand that’s not only focused on boosting people's nutrition but it’s also committed to helping the environment. Impressively, the brand is partnered with The Rainforest Trust and has saved over 25,126 acres of rainforest since 2017.

Ka’Chava exclusively sells the Ka’Chava Whole Body Meal formula, but the formula is available in two different flavors – Vanilla and Chocolate.

Ka'Chava Benefits

Due to the fact that Ka’Chava is an all-in-one formula, it targets every area of wellness in the body, and therefore the brand claims that there will be a wide range of benefits, and when I say wide range, I mean wide range!

Get ready for a long list of health benefits that the Ka’Chava formula is supposed to provide…

Ka’Chava is supposed to boost the immune system, increase energy levels, aid digestion, reduce bloating, aid with weight management, boost the metabolism, increase the health of the hair, skin, and nails, support muscle growth, increase the speed of muscle recovery, boost mood, increase focus, and reduce anxiety.

I really appreciate that there’s so much information about the intended health benefits, and it’s an especially nice touch that the brand has gone to the effort to share information about the specific ingredients that provide each benefit.

Ka'Chava Ingredients

The Ka’Chava formula is packed with over 70 powerful ingredients, including super greens, fruits, probiotics, digestive enzymes, adaptogens, and protein.

Although there’s such a long list of potent ingredients, unfortunately, these ingredients exist within proprietary blends, meaning it’s unclear how much of each ingredient resides in the formula.

This could be a huge problem, but nonetheless, let’s take a look at the ingredients before we take a closer look at the efficacy of the formula.

Here is the complete list of Kachava ingredients:

  • Plant-Based Protein Blend (27.75 grams) – Yellow Pea Protein, Organic Whole Grain Brown Rice Protein, Organic Sacha Inchi Seed, Organic Amaranth Seed, Organic Quinoa Seed.
  • Omega EFA / Fiber Blend (9.02 grams) – Pure Whole Grain Oat, Organic Acacia Gum, Chia Seed, Flax Seed.
  • Antioxidant / Super-Fruit Blend (6.1 grams) – Organic Coconut Flower Nectar, Acai Berry, Organic Maqui Berry, Camu-Camu Berry, Organic Strawberry, Organic Tart Cherry, Organic Blackberry, Organic Blueberry, Organic Raspberry.
  • Adaptogen Herb Blend (1,050 mg) – Organic Maca Root, Organic Shiitake Mushroom Mycelia, Organic Maitake Mushroom Mycelia, Organic Reishi Mushroom Mycelia, Organic Cordyceps Mushroom Mycelia, Organic Ginger Root.
  • Supergreens / Vegetable Blend (500mg) – Chlorella, Organic Beet, Organic Carrot, Organic Spinach, Organic Broccoli, Organic Tomato, Organic Kale, Organic Cabbage, Organic Parsley Leaf, Organic Brussel Sprouts, Organic Green Pepper, Organic Cucumber, Organic Celery, Organic Garlic, Organic Green Onion, Organic Cauliflower, Organic Asparagus.
  • Probiotic / Prebiotic Blend (50mg) – Inulin, Lactobacillus Rhamnosus, Lactobacillus Acidophilus.
  • Digestive / Enzyme Blend (50mg) – Amylase, Protease, Cellulase, Lactase, Lipase.
  • Other Ingredients – Cocoa, Coconut Milk, Soluble Vegetable Fiber, Natural Vanilla Flavors, Xanthan Gum, Guar Gum, Lo Han Fruit Extract, Cinnamon.

Ka’Chava is vegan, dairy-free, gluten-free, soy-free, and free of artificial ingredients. Out of the 70 ingredients within the formula, 28 of these are organic, so although the formula can’t be certified organic, a lot of the ingredients are.

How does Ka'Chava Taste?

Ka’Chava is available in either vanilla or chocolate flavor, and the majority of reviews are really positive about the taste.

The chocolate flavor formula is especially popular!

Some people aren’t so keen, claiming the formula tastes too sweet.

Side Effects

Although there aren’t any side effect warnings on the tubs of Ka’Chava, the brand does have some allergen/side effect warning information on the Support Center area of the website.

Ka’Chava suggests that if you’re pregnant, breastfeeding or you want to give the powder to children, you should first check with a medical professional.

This is great advice and I also always recommend anyone with a medical condition or anyone who takes medication to speak to their doctor before consumption.

Does Ka'Chava Work?

As mentioned above, unfortunately, the Ka’Chava formula is made up of proprietary blends, and therefore it’s impossible to know the exact amount of each ingredient within the formula.

Most of the time, proprietary blends don’t contain sufficiently dosed ingredients and therefore don’t provide the consumer with benefits. However, the recommended serving size of Ka’Chava is 62g, which is a huge serving size, and therefore one would assume that the ingredients within the formula are sufficiently dosed.

It seems like most of the proprietary blends within the formula are sufficiently dosed, apart from the super greens blend.

For example, with 27.5g of protein, 9.62g of fiber, and 6.1g of antioxidant fruits, the formula seems to be sufficiently dosed!

…huge serving size… one would assume that the ingredients within the formula are sufficiently dosed – the super greens blend is VERY under dosed though

However, the super greens blend only weighs in at 500mg, and the recommended daily dose of most super greens is between 1-5g (for example, chlorella).

So, it’s impossible that the super greens blend contains sufficient amounts of each ingredient.

Another huge problem with this formula is the sugar content per serving.

There's 7g sugar per serving, which is an incredibly large amount and could actually cause consumers to put on weight and have increased blood sugar levels.

As long as you’re not looking for a huge super greens boost and you’re more interested in protein, antioxidants, and fiber, this formula will probably work for you and provide you with benefits!

Ka'Chava Reviews

Ka’Chava is available on Amazon, and it’s obvious how popular this formula is – it has just under 2,500 Amazon reviews.

Overall the formula scores 4.4 stars out of 5 stars, with 72% of the reviews being 5-star.

Let’s take a look at a selection of the reviews below.

I am on my third bag of the chocolate flavor. In fact, I like it so much, I subscribed. I am actually quite shocked by the reviews where the reviewer found the chocolate taste so displeasing. Tastes great! Depending on my workout for the day and how much time I’ll have to digest, I’ll either have my shake pre or post-workout. Perfect for washing down my multivitamin & either giving me a little fuel or replenishment. I do not think all Vegan shakes are created equal. I like this one far better than Isagenix. No comparison, really. Yes, pricey. But I guess you get what you pay for.5-star review

Take a quality multivitamin and eat well and save a bunch of money. If you were to have one serving a day it would cost $150 a month! The vanilla flavor is bland, can't really taste the vanilla. The drink messes with my digestive tract. The only reason I would consider buying this again is if I went on an extended backcountry trip, and even then a quality multivitamin and jerky would probably be better, definitely cheaper.3-star review

I drank the chocolate flavor for breakfast every day for two months. During that time I started breaking out in pimple-like hives all over my face, neck, eyes, and ears. After 5 doctor appointments and two months of nonstop hives, I finally found out the shake was causing it. The shake tastes and looks like it has great “clean” ingredients, but there are soooooo many ingredients in it – I can’t even figure out which is causing the allergy. Be careful!1-star review

Money-Back Guarantee / Returns Policy

Ka’Chava offers a 30-day money-back guarantee. The terms and conditions of the money-back guarantee can be found on the Ka’Chava Refund Policy page.

Where to buy Ka'Chava?

You can buy Ka’Chava from the Ka’Chava site, from Amazon, from Walmart, and other third party supplement retailers online.

Is It Worth The Price?

Ka’Chava comes in 15-serving pouches, and one pouch costs $69.95, which means that the cost per serving works out at $4.67.

If you subscribe to receiving the formula regularly, it costs $59.95, meaning the cost per serving is $4.00.

Regardless of the subscription discount, this is an expensive formula. It’s much more expensive than other formulas on the market, but the reason that I think the formula is so expensive is due to the fact it contains a large amount of protein-protein powders are typically more expensive than superfood powders!

The Bottom Line

Although Ka’Chava seems like an impressive brand initially, I ultimately feel let down by the formula’s proprietary blends, lack of sufficiently dosed super greens ingredients, and a large amount of sugar present in the mix.

The price of the formula is also much more expensive than other formulas on the market, and I personally wouldn’t pay that kind of money for a formula without a fully disclosed ingredients label.

If you’re someone that’s looking for a fiber-rich, protein formula with antioxidant ingredients, and you’re not afraid to splash the cash, I think this could be a good choice for you.

Lastly, if you’re looking for both greens and protein, I would recommend finding a greens powder formula with protein and a fully disclosed label and adding a protein powder to it!

  1. Ridiculous price and ordering is a joke. Can never get on the website. Oh and try redeeming your rewards it’s all but impossible. But you can get a response from “Jane” in Thailand who can type 3rd grade English pretty well.

  2. Nice , thorough reviews. I find it interesting that few reviews ( other than yours) seem to mention the 6 grams of ADDED SUGAR. Putting this in perspective, most nutritionists advise to have no more than 36 grams of sugar daily!! So 6grams from one drink sounds very high. I wish they used Stevia and/or Monkfruit in their formulation. I do think that the reviewers here are spot on about the lack of expert advice concerned Ka’Chava. There are some questionable things here such as the added sugar. Having California going after them because of possible lead and other metal toxicity is very disturbing. That is the problem with all these shakes and supplements: there is no oversight. My take was the same as yours: While I think this shake is better than most, it does have some significant downsides. If I am going to have a protein shake, I frankly would prefer to have one with less sugar added and better qualify control. It will be interesting to see how this California law suit plays out and what changes the company will make

    1. Thank you Sandy for your comment, most appreciated.
As you say, the sugar content and some of the other ingredients within supplements are somewhat glossed over. In my experience, the worse culprits for sugar content are the gummy manufacturers! A well-known brand I have tried/reviewed has 2 grams of sugar PER GUMMY. With the recommended daily intake of 6 per day, you’re easily getting 12 grams in those easily consumed “health sweets”.

  3. Thank you for the honest review of this product. I was searching for legitimate reviews before deciding to give it a try. Your review helped to convince me to go another route. In addition, I came across this notice about lead and was wondering what ingredients or processing might be responsible for the lead content and if that is something to worry about in similar products?

“On June 24, 2021, the Environmental Research Center filed a Notice of Violation of California Law Proposition 65, against Tribal Nutrition LLC, individually and dba Ka’Chava.

In this action, ERC alleges that TWO specific products manufactured, distributed, or sold by Tribal Nutrition LLC, individually and dba Ka’Chava, contain lead, a chemical listed under Proposition 65 as a carcinogen and reproductive toxin, and expose consumers to lead at levels requiring a Proposition 65 warning.

    The products under investigation are:

    1. Ka’Chava Tribal Superfood The Whole Body Meal Vanilla
    2. Ka’Chava Tribal Superfood The Whole Body Meal Chocolate”

    1. When I was finalizing my order for the peanut butter bars and another package of chocolate, a disclaimer came up telling me that the product I was buying was exposing me to lead. It was a bit alarming. I’ve been using this product for years and I like the results. It’s a little pricey but I like the protein and the fiber it offers. I also wonder if there isn’t letting everything we’re eating. But it breaks my heart when I find things like this out when I think I finally found a unicorn in a product. I’m hoping he comments on this. Hoping this brand doesn’t turn out to be the Soylent Green of our time.

  4. Good article. For me the price is insane ($69 for 15 servings), I just can’t justify spending the kind money Ka’Chava is asking when cheaper alternative exist that are likely just as healthy.

  5. I appreciate the thorough review of Ka’Chava as my partner and I have been considering it and wanted to know how it compared to Garden of Life Raw Meal. But I’m confused. How do you conclude that you “ultimately feel let down by the formula’s proprietary blends, lack of sufficiently dosed super greens ingredients…” then recommend readers find a “greens powder formula with protein and a fully disclosed label recommended greens powder with protein,” and link to your article (written a day after this article) that has Ka’Chava as the first recommendation?

    1. Hi Marie,
Thank you for your feedback. I can see how you may be confused however the issue is with 99% of greens powders I have reviewed there ALL use proprietary blends, which means you cannot tell for sure if the ingredients are correctly dosed. That is the case with protein greens powders too!
That said, out of the list of protein greens powders I would still rank Kachava as one of the best brands. They have a huge amount of protein in each serving, good range of ingredients although they may not be optimally dosed could be better than nothing.
Personally, I take my greens powder mixed with another brand of vanilla protein, this gives me 25 grams of protein per serving with the appropriate dosing of greens ingredients – all for less than the cost of Kachava and some other brands.
You can find more information on the link above.
      Let me know your thoughts.
      Adam

    1. Hi Mark,
Fair comment although this product is not in a plastic tub! It’s also worth pointing out that many of the plastic tubs used by supplements can actually be recycled.
