Spruce Greens Review: Benefits, Drawbacks, And Comparison

Spruce Greens' Greens Powder Drink is a superfood-infused greens powder designed to, well, spruce up your health.

Spruce purports that their greens supplement contains all the essential nutrients your body needs to reach optimal health.

This might sound good, but does science back it up?

Let’s look in-depth at Greens Powder Drink’s pros, cons, and more.

Why Are Greens So Important?

First things first: why have greens powders gotten so popular?

Largely because they make complete nutrition simple.

Not everyone has the extra time or finances to eat dozens of fruits and oodles of vegetables every day.

This becomes even more true when you throw in superfoods like spirulina and chlorella, etc. Taking all of these substances separately would be a health hassle in and of itself!

Greens powders are also purported to increase energy levels…holistically.

They may not give you the fast, cerebral rush of caffeine, but that doesn’t mean they can’t increase energy in other ways.

Many greens enthusiasts say greens powders give them a steady cognitive boost without any crash afterward.

This is especially true if the greens powder contains green tea extract, ginseng, or other energizing compounds.

Greens powders may also confer benefits by balancing out your body’s acid/base load, better known as pH. (Actually, pH is always held in a closely regulated range…eating greens makes such regulation easier and reduces chances of calcium loss). (Source)

The Brand Behind Greens Powder Drink

Not much info about Spruce is available on the brand’s website.

Here’s what we did find, though:

  • Spruce was founded in 2018
  • North Carolinian Tony Spencer started Spruce as a family business
  • Initially the brand focused on producing premium-quality, potent CBD products
  • All of Spruce’s products were made in America from the brand’s inception

In recent years Spruce has branched out to provide additional wellness-promoting products — notably the Superfood Greens Powder that’s the subject of this review.

Superfood Green Powder Drink: Key Ingredients

Green Powder Drink contains 91 ingredients, including vitamins, minerals, and whole foods.

That might seem like a good thing…the only problem is that almost all of these ingredients are placed within proprietary blends.

almost all of these ingredients are placed within proprietary blends… some containing very low levels of active ingredients.

I counted 9 such blends, some containing very low levels of active ingredients.

Here’s a closer look at the label, and I also break down each of the proprietary blends.

Greens Powder Drink’s Top Health Benefits

Spruce divides its product’s benefits into three major categories.

Superfood Greens Powder Drink is:

  • Keto-friendly: sweetened with stevia and contains only 2g net carbs per serving, these Greens won’t interfere with your keto or low-carb diet.
  • Immune-boosting: many of the ingredients in Greens Powder Drink have immune-boosting and immuno-modulatory properties.
  • Apocalypse-friendly: if you’re “prepping for SHTF,” Spruce says, then you’ll be glad to hear that the brand’s greens are designed for “maximum storage density and maximum essential nutrients.”

This might all sound good in theory, and points #1 and #3 are likely to hold.

Because Spruce doesn’t fully disclose their products’ ingredients list, however, I can’t be sure of point #2.

Does Greens Powder Drink Have Side Effects?

It doesn’t appear to.

Greens Powder doesn’t even have the poor taste that so many other greens powders suffer from.

Spruce says:

“This is not the ultra bitter kale taste you’d expect, we sweeten it with Stevia, and it’s easy to consume with our natural mixed berry flavor.”

Customers seem to agree with this claim…but more on that next.

Does Greens Powder Drink Have Positive Customer Reviews?

It sure does!

As of August 2022 this relatively new product has 8 custom reviews on their website (unfortunately, I don’t have any additional Amazon reviews to draw from).

Here are some of the highlights.

One happy customer feels Greens Powder Drink is superior to the equally popular Athletic Greens AG1:

“I have tried the athletic greens in the past and it was okay. The taste and ingredients could have been better. However, the Spruce Greens I tried recently has more nutrients, more antioxidants, and a way better flavor.”

Another customer confirms that Spruce’s product tastes super solid:

“I’m in my late 40s and was looking for an easy way to boost my general good health. I was a little intimidated as this was my first “green drink”. I was pleasantly surprised by how easily a full scoop dissolved in an 8oz cup of water. The smell was earthy and sweet, and the slight sweetness tastes terrific. I felt fantastic on day one, and would highly recommend Spruce to anyone looking to up their game. Thank you Spruce you have a convert.”

Yet another customer attests that Greens Powder Drink really can replace coffee:

These [Greens] are INCREDIBLE. They have become a staple in my morning routine. So much so that they’ve replaced coffee. Spruce Greens give me the energy and focus I need to get through the day on top of tasting fantastic. I immediately ordered my second batch. You won’t regret this purchase!

Read the rest of the reviews and you’ll see repeatedly that Spruce aced the taste test here. One customer says:

Better than any other greens powder I've tried,

I’m not sure how they made Greens Powder Drink taste so good, but they did it nonetheless!

Greens Powder Drink Pricing

To put it simply, Spruce’s Greens Powder is VERY expensive.

While the brand rationalizes their products price, citing the fact they don’t cut corners and source each ingredient from the purest of sources, there’s no getting around Greens Powder’s price:

  • 30 servings costs $99, equating to $3.30 per serving
  • 30 servings costs $79.20 if you subscribe, equating to $2.64 per serving (a 20% discount)

On the bright side, Spruce is said to have excellent customer service. The company is known for its prompt shipping (2-4 business days) and generous return policy.

You can get a full refund on any item — whether a CBD product or this Greens Powders — if you return the product within 30 days.

Spruce personally responds to most customer reviews, too, and has been known to thank customers for their purchases.

Where to Buy Greens Powder Drink

You can buy Superfoods Greens Powder on their website here.

Greens Powder isn’t yet available on Amazon.

Spruce Greens: My Verdict

Superfood Greens Power Drink may be a good product, and it sure seems to be based on the customer reviews we have available.

But it’s simply too pricey given the lack of disclosure.

Supergreen Tonik and an AG1 alternative — they’re both more affordable and more transparent than this one.
