The fusion that works for him and many others are Theanine, Magnesium, and Apigenin which he has discussed in his podcast.

Here's the formula for Huberman Sleep Cocktail:

  • 100-200 mg of I-theanine
  • 300-400mg of magnesium (citrate, bisglycinate, and threonate)
  • 50mg of apigenin

Things To Pay Attention To

Apigenin looks to have some estrogen antagonism.

That's why many women opt not to add apigenin on their own.

And due to its interaction with hormones – men might be interested in experimenting with it independently.

It's worth mentioning that magnesium has many forms with different absorption rates.

Although Huberman suggests magnesium threonate and magnesium citrate, magnesium bis-glycinate is also well-known, and in comparison to all other states, it has more elemental magnesium.

  • Magnesium Glycinate or L-Threonate: 200-400mg (take 2-3 hours before sleep)
  • Apigenin: 50mg

Dr. Huberman doesn't appreciate melatonin supplementation.

The primary reason behind it is that the quantity of melatonin supplements is much higher (10 to 1000x) than the naturally produced in our bodies.

Instead of supplementing melatonin, he suggests we should change our lifestyle and adjust our natural melatonin by exposing ourselves less to bright light at particular hours.

Instead of using melatonin, Dr. Huberman suggests other sleep supplements.

Magnesium Threonate 101

Magnesium comes in many forms.

There’s magnesium chloride, magnesium sulfate, magnesium citrate, magnesium oxide, magnesium orotate, magnesium glycinate, magnesium malate, magnesium L-threonate and many more.

Magnesium L-threonate is a particular formulation of magnesium that smoothly gets absorbed by our body, and many more in this sleep cocktail formula.

In this sleep cocktail formula, Magnesium L-threonate is a particular formulation of magnesium that smoothly gets into the brain.

Magnesium L-threonate may also have cognitive perks.

Even though Dr. Huberman suggests Magnesium L-Threonate, it's pricier than other forms of magnesium.

    I am one of many who suffer from CFS and Fibromyalgia. For years. Only recently there appeared articles on CFS. I’ve been waiting for them my whole life.
    Needless to say that I’m a big fan of your writings because only one who suffers knows how it feels and his experience with remedies uncovered away from traditional medicinals.

      What have you tried? It would be great to know more about your experience and what works and what doesn’t.
      One of the big things for me has been to focus on getting more consistent sleep (both going to bed and waking times). A few years ago, sleep was 6-7 hours each night because I neglected good quality sleep. As a result, I was sleep deprived and relied on coffee and soft drinks to keep me going. I consistently get 7-8 hours, a big game changer. I use an Oura ring to track my sleep, so I get feedback and don’t have to rely on my feeling.
