Hydrant Hydrate Drink Review: Ingredients, Dosages, Serving Costs

Hydrate Drink is an electrolyte hydration drink that’s supposed to provide a number of essential minerals, salts, and sugars to properly hydrate the consumer. It is produced by a US-based brand, Hydrant.

Hydrant has created this formula to provide an easy hydration fix to those who exercise excessively, don’t consume enough water during their workday, those who travel regularly, and those who are hungover.

The electrolyte formula is sold in single-serve sachets and is available in a wide range of flavors, as well as “original” and “zero sugar”.

Hydrant is an incredibly popular US hydration brand and I’m definitely keen to take a look at it to see if it really can provide the hydration it claims.

What is Hydrant Hydrate Drink?

I really like the Hydrant website at first glance. The vibrant colors pop, the visuals are top-notch, and there’s a substantial amount of information both about general hydration health and the products that the brand sells.

Looking at the Hydrate sachets, I still like the branding – it certainly looks aesthetically pleasing and impressive.

However, I’m a little disappointed that there’s not a lot of information about the product, not to mention that the sachets seem to be lacking in a few key electrolytes.

However, I’ll know more once I take a closer look at the formula!

Background on Hydrant

Hydrant was founded in 2017 by Oxford University-trained biologist, John Sherwin, and investor, Jai Jung Kim.

The pair found that whilst working, they were constantly left feeling dehydrated and they wanted to create an answer to all of their problems, as well as other people's.

Hydrant is now based in the US and has become incredibly popular and the company has even started producing formulas to help in other areas of life – immunity, sleep, and energy.

Hydrant Hydrate Drink Benefits

The only benefit associated with the Hydrant Hydrate sachets is that they are supposed to help hydrate the consumer.

Therefore, they are marketed as perfect for those that don’t drink enough water, those who travel frequently, those who are hungover, and those exercising frequently.

The brand has also provided information about the different electrolytes within the formula. For example, “sodium is a mineral that’s essential for life. It helps send nerve impulses and affects muscle function”.

Hydrant Hydrate Drink Ingredients

Hydrate is available in a number of different flavors and therefore the specific ingredients for each flavor is slightly different. However, the electrolytes within the formula are fully disclosed on the label.

Therefore, we can figure out if the formula will really help people hydrate easily.

However, more on that later! First, let’s take a look at what makes up the sachets.

Here is the complete list of the Hydrant Hydrate Drink ingredients:

  • Sodium – 260mg
  • Total Sugars – 4g (Includes 4g Added Sugars)
  • Potassium – 200mg
  • Magnesium – 30mg
  • Zinc – 2mg
  • Ingredients:Cane Sugar, (Specific Flavor Juice Powder), Sodium Citrate, Magnesium Gluconate, Potassium Citrate, Citric Acid, Salt, Natural Flavors, Zinc Gluconate.

How does Hydrant Hydrate Drink Taste?

Hydrate is available in a wide variety of flavors – Lemon and Lime, Blood Orange, Lime, Grapefruit, Lemonade, Pink Grapefruit, Watermelonade, Orange Mango, Iced Tea Lemonade, Fruit Punch, Peach Iced Tea, and Raspberry Iced Tea.

Reviews concerning the taste of the sachets are mixed. However, the general consensus seems to be that they are weak-tasting and do not mix well.

Side Effects

Hydrant does not provide any information about potential side effects from the Hydrate sachets or about who and who shouldn't consume them.

However, I would suggest that if you have a medical condition, you’re on medication, or you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, you consult a doctor before consumption.

Does Hydrant Hydrate Drink Work?

Hydrant Hydrate Electrolyte formula has a disclosed ingredients label and therefore we can see how much of each ingredient exists within each sachet.

Unfortunately, it’s clear to me straight away that this is most likely not going to be a very beneficial electrolyte formula due to the fact that it misses key electrolytes that other companies’ drinks do have, such as vitamin C, calcium, chloride, phosphorus, etc.

Although I don’t expect these sachets to supply the daily recommended dose of the minerals it contains, apart from the potassium (weighted at 200mg) and the sodium (weighted at 260mg) within the formula, the zinc, and the magnesium are nowhere near substantially dosed.

The formula contains a very small amount of only a few key electrolytes and a lot of sugar.

Therefore, these sachets are not providing a very substantial dose of electrolytes, meaning they won’t be as effective as other electrolyte supplements and drinks on the markets.

In addition, the original flavors (rather than the zero-sugar options), contain 3-4g of sugar.

This is an incredibly high sugar content for sachets that only weigh 6.5 – 7.7g. These are also not natural sugars, they are added sugars!

Overall, the formula contains a very small amount of only a few key electrolytes and a lot of sugar (in the original flavors).

Therefore, they’re unlikely to provide adequate hydration, and they definitely don’t compare well against other electrolyte supplements on the market like the ones in my round-up review.

Hydrant Hydrate Drink Reviews

There are multiple flavors of Hydrant Hydrate available on Amazon, which is great news because we can take a look at customer reviews of the product there!

I will be looking at the reviews of the Blood Orange flavor Hydrate since it has the most customer reviews.

Overall, this flavored electrolyte formula has 3,842 customer reviews and an overall star rating of 4.2 stars out of 5 stars.

So, let’s take a look at some of these reviews!

This is one of those miracle products. I ordered the blood orange flavor. The sweetness is very subtle, but enough to make you feel like you’re drinking something special. I poured one of these packets I to my water bottle every morning and made sure to drink it on my way to work. Even if I hadn’t slept well the night before, I still felt energized. Best of all, I knew I had already had a fraction of the water I needed for the rest of the day. High recommend picking this up if you struggle with your water intake, or just want to make your water more exciting.5-star review

Ok so flavor wise these are just not good (I know it’s not all about flavoring). They are sour and acidic. The best flavor is blood orange, but it’s not even very good. Even diluted with double the water. They also do not dissolve well at all. Besides that, they are expensive for what it is and after using these for a month I have experienced no noticeable difference in hydration. In my opinion you might as well just drink water.3-star review

Would not recommend. Super large grainy and not salty and tastes absolutely disgusting. I’ve tried all the products: liquid IV, Pedialyte, etc. This is has zero comparison. Don’t waste your money to save on a few calories, carbs, and sugar bc you’d have to drink 4-6 of these a day to even compare to any of the other competitors.1-star review

Money-Back Guarantee / Returns Policy

Hydrant offers a 30-day money-back guarantee on its products.

Where to buy Hydrant Hydrate Drink?

You can buy Hydrate from the Hydrant website and selected flavors from Amazon.

It’s also available in several stores across the US, such as GNC and CVS.

Is It Worth The Price?

One pouch of Hydrate contains 30 single-serving packets. You can either buy the pouch on a one-off purchase or on a subscription option.

However, if you purchase a zero-sugar flavor, the cost increases.

On a one-time purchase, one pouch of “normal” Hydrate costs $37.49. This works out at a cost per serving of $1.25.

On a one-time purchase, one pouch of zero-sugar Hydrate costs $39.49. This works out at a cost per serving of $1.32.

You save 20% if you sign up for a subscription. Therefore, a “normal” pouch of Hydrate works out with a cost per serving of $1.00, and a zero-sugar pouch has a cost per serving of $1.05.

Overall, I think the electrolyte drinks are overpriced due to the fact that they only contain small amounts of each mineral within them.

My Final Verdict

Hydrant really seems like a great brand and their advertising is definitely on-point. However, when looking more closely at the Hydrate drink formula, I don’t think that I would purchase it or recommend it.

My main issue with Hydrate is that it doesn’t contain a wide range of essential electrolytes and not all of the ones that it does contain are substantially dosed.

Therefore, at a price of over $1 per serving, I don’t think it stands up, especially next to other electrolyte supplements such as Nunn Sport, Liquid IV, and Ultima Replenisher.

If you’re looking for a sugary hit to make your water taste better, you may want to purchase the Hydrant drink formula. However, if you’re looking for full electrolyte hydration, I would suggest looking elsewhere.
