Proper Sleep and Restore Review

Proper Sleep + Restore review

Founded only last year in 2020, Proper is a popular, highly-regarded supplement company that specializes in creating supplements that promote and improve sleep.

The Sleep and Restore capsules are one of the brand’s best-sellers and I’m keen to take a closer look!

Containing ashwagandha, valerian root, tart cherry extract, and melatonin, the brand claims that taking two capsules of Sleep and Restore before bed will promote sleep, help with a longer and higher quality sleep, and regulate the sleep-wake cycle.

Sleep and Restore is 100% natural, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, sugar-free, and non-GMO.

I’m excited to take a closer look at these capsules and see if they really can help induce and improved sleep.

Proper Sleep and Restore First Impressions

Looking at the Proper website, I’m immediately impressed. I not only like the look of the website, but I’m really impressed by the abundance of informative content, and interactive elements such as the bedtime countdown.

The brand’s blog contains really important educational content, and all of the information about the brand itself and the products is useful.

Looking at Sleep and Restore, I’m firstly really impressed by the glass jars that the capsules are packaged in and the sleek, elegant branding that goes with it.

I’m definitely keen to take a closer look and see if it really is as good as it looks.

Background on Proper

Proper, incorporated as Proper Labs, was founded in 2020 by Nancy Ramamurthi and Kamiu Lee. The brand was created to provide people with good sleep, and exclusively produces supplements that benefit sleep.

Already featured in Forbes, Instyle and People’s Magazine, the company has become a popular, well-known brand that takes a holistic approach to scientific research.

Sleep and Restore is one of the most popular supplements that the brand produces, sitting amongst six other sleep formulas.

Proper Sleep and Restore Benefits

Sleep and Restore is specifically formulated to help the consumer fall asleep faster and stay asleep, combat the symptoms of insomnia, and balance the natural sleep cycle.

The brand supplies information about each individual ingredient and the benefits associated with each ingredient, which is great to see as it informs those that otherwise have no existing knowledge of the ingredients within the formula.

For example, “Melatonin – Improves sleep quality, increases total sleep time, decreases the time it takes to fall asleep.

Proper Sleep and Restore Ingredients

Sleep and Restore is made up of 6 main ingredients, the amounts of which are fully disclosed on the product’s ingredients label.

This is super useful because as a consumer you not only know how much of each ingredient you’re consuming but you can actually work out the efficacy of the formula.

I’ll be taking a look at the efficacy of Sleep and Restore later on in this review.

However, first, let’s take a look at the ingredients list!

Here is the complete list of the Proper Sleep and Restore ingredients:

  • Valerian Root Extract (Valeriana officinalis) (std. to 0.8% Valerenic acid) – 300mg
  • SENSORIL® Ashwagandha Root and Leaf Extract (Withania somnifera) (std. to 10% Withanolides) – 125mg
  • GABA (Gamma-Aminobutyric acid) – 100mg

Here is the supplement facts label:

How does Proper Sleep and Restore Taste?

Sleep and Restore is a capsule supplement. Therefore, there’s no taste!

However, some customers have complained about the smell of the capsules.

Side Effects

Proper recommends that you seek medical advice before using this supplement if you are on any type of medication, if you have a medical condition, if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or under the age of 18.

In addition, the brand also states that you should not consume alcohol, drive or operate machinery after taking this product.

Does Proper Sleep and Restore Work?

Sleep and Restore has a fully disclosed ingredients label, which is like music to my ears!

This means that we can look at the amounts of each ingredient within the formula and see if it hits the standard recommended doses of that specific ingredient.

The most important ingredient within the formula that the brand features is melatonin. The recommended dose of melatonin is from 0.5 mg up to 3mg to help promote sleep, although higher doses can be used.

There’s 3mg of melatonin within the Sleep and Restore formula, therefore it hits the recommended dose!

The majority of the ingredients within the formula are sufficiently dosed.

The recommended dose of valerian root ranges from 300mg – 600mg, and therefore the 300mg of valerian root that exists within the Sleep and Restore formula hits the recommended dose.

The only other ingredient with a standard recommended dose is ashwagandha, and unfortunately, the 125mg of ashwagandha within the formula doesn’t hit the recommended dose of 250mg-500mg.

This is why when I developed my greens powder from the ground up, I made sure the full 500mg dosage of ashwagandha was in each serving – find out more here.

Overall, the majority of the ingredients within the formula are sufficiently dosed. However, it would have been great to see the ashwagandha meet the recommended amount.

Proper Sleep and Restore Reviews

Sleep and Restore is available on Amazon, and therefore we can take a look on there at unbiased customer reviews. Overall, the formula scores 3.8 stars out of 5 stars, with around 40 customer reviews.

So, let’s take a look at a selection of these reviews to see what people think.

I have had trouble sleeping for as long as I can remember. My issues have generally been falling asleep and then staying asleep more than a few hours. I generally wake up at 4 or 5am and then toss and turn until I get up. I have been using proper for the last few weeks. I use the supplement 20-30 minutes before going to bed and have found myself slipping into a peaceful sleep I cannot remember having since college. More importantly, I stayed asleep for longer and woke up feeling rested. It is life changing! I wake up with more energy and focus and feeling ready to take on the day. 5-star reviewer

Get ready for the overwhelming smell of this product! It stinks. I’ve only been taking for a few nights with interrupted sleep…still. Jury is still out, but if wondering If I’ll repurchase on the smell alone. 3-star reviewer

I saw people RAVING about this online and figured worth a shot.. I haven’t noticed any difference in my sleep (I even track it with my iwatch and it shows no difference than when not taking it… 1-star reviewer

Money-Back Guarantee / Returns Policy

Unfortunately, there’s no clear return policy on the Proper website, and the brand does not offer a money-back guarantee.

Instead, the brand suggests that if anyone wants to return their product they send the team an email.

Where to buy Proper Sleep and Restore?

You can buy Sleep and Restore from the Proper website and from Amazon.

Is It Worth The Price?

One Sleep and Restore glass jar contains 60 capsules, and with the serving size of 2 capsules, this means one jar is a 30 day supply!

You can also either sign up for a subscription or buy the Sleep and Restore as a one-time purchase.

One jar of Sleep and Restore on a one-time purchase costs $39.99, which works out at a cost per serving of $1.33.

On a subscription, one jar of Sleep and Restore costs $35.99, which works out at a cost per serving of $1.20.

Although the formula might fall short of supplying the recommended dose of ashwagandha, the fact that the formula contains a substantial dose of melatonin and valerian root, and actually has a fully disclosed ingredients label in the first place, leads me to conclude that it is worth the price it’s sold at.

My Final Verdict

I’m definitely impressed by Sleep and Restore and the whole Proper brand as a whole.

I like the fact that there’s a fully disclosed ingredients label on the product, the majority of the ingredients are sufficiently dosed, and the brand supplies clear, informative content about the formula.

In addition, it’s well priced!

However, I would have liked to see the ashwagandha in the formula meet the standard recommended dose, and a money-back guarantee wouldn’t go a miss!

Nonetheless, overall, I think Sleep and Restore may be a good choice if you’re looking for a natural sleeping aid.
