Tenzo Tea is supposed to help promote higher energy levels without the jitters associated with coffee, as well as boost immunity, support mental clarity, and more.

The matcha that the brand uses is USDA organic, vegan, kosher, keto, paleo, and gluten-free and made from the youngest, most nutrient-dense leaves from green tea plants grown in Kagoshima, Japan.

Tenzo Tea is arguably the most popular matcha tea company on the market in the US, and since the popularity of matcha is on the rise, I’m keen to take a look at it to see if it really is as good as it seems.

Tenzo Tea First Impressions

I really like the no ”BS”, informative but not overwhelming, and clean design of the Tenzo website.

Everything from the images to the useful blog posts is clearly done to a high standard and it really shows that this company is popular and doing well.

Although I appreciate the look of Tenzo Tea, I’m a little concerned that there’s very little information about the actual nutrients within the matcha that the brand supplies.

There’s no doubt that there’s a lot of information about the benefits associated with it, but it would be good to see a little more about the actual nutrients that it provides.

Background on Tenzo

Robbie Page, who graduated from UCLA in 2014, and Steve O'Dell, who left UCLA during his fourth year in 2016, founded Tenzo Tea in 2016. The company sells matcha, a finely ground green tea from Japan that has grown popular in recent years.

All of their matcha is grown organically and imported from Kagoshima, Japan.

Tenzo was founded in 2016 by Robbie Page and Steve O'Dell and is arguably the biggest matcha tea company in the US. The company specifically sells matcha, which they import from Japan.

All of the matcha that the company produces is USDA-certified organic and of a “ceremonial” grade.

Although it’s unclear if the brand still runs this initiative, when founded, for every matcha sold, the company would donate a year's worth of clean water to someone with limited access to water which is pretty amazing.

Tenzo Tea Ingredients

Tenzo Tea only consists of one ingredient – the matcha. The matcha used within Tenzo Tea is ceremonial matcha.

It is made from the youngest, most nutrient-dense leaves from the very top of shade-grown green tea plants that are grown in Kagoshima, Japan.

Due to the fact that the powder doesn’t contain any other ingredients, the amount of the matcha within the formula is not shown. However, the recommended serving size of the powder is 1g.

How does Tenzo Tea Taste?

Due to the fact that Tenzo Tea is made from 100% matcha tea, it tastes exactly like that. So, if you like matcha, you’ll like the flavor.

However, if you don’t like matcha or if you haven’t consumed it before, you may think that it tastes earthy and pungent.

Side Effects

There are no side effect warnings associated with Tenzo Tea and the brand doesn’t warn against anyone taking it.

However, I would suggest that those who are pregnant, nursing, and those who have a medical condition or are taking any medications to consult a doctor before consumption.

Does Tenzo Tea Work?

Tenzo Tea only contains one ingredient – 100% organic matcha green tea.

The recommended serving size of matcha sits between 2-4 grams or 1-2tsp and therefore, with a serving size of only 1g, you might not be consuming enough matcha per serving to actually reap the benefits.

Therefore, to actually enjoy the benefits associated with matcha, you may need to take twice the recommended serving size – this means the formula is going to be more expensive if you use more (the cost per serving will increase!).

Overall, matcha green tea is definitely proven to provide benefits.

However, to actually receive these benefits, you may need to take more than the recommended serving size of the Tenzo Tea formula.

Recently tried a matcha latte at Starbucks and found myself making daily trips there to get one so I decided to try to make it at home. You can buy Tenzo Tea from the Tenzo website. It was sold on Amazon but is currently sold out on that platform.

Is It Worth The Price?

Tenzo offers both a one-time purchase option and a subscription option. You can either buy the matcha powder on its own, or you can buy the Tenzo Trial Kit that then automatically signs you up for a subscription.

One tub of the powder on a one-time purchase costs $50, meaning the cost per serving works out at $0.83.

One tub of the powder on a subscription costs $40, meaning the cost per serving works out at $0.66.

If you purchase the Tenzo Tea Trial Kit, you pay $55, and then this is billed again every 30 days unless canceled.

This works out at a cost per serving of $0.91, and this cost includes the matcha whisk.

Although the matcha isn’t extortionately expensive, it is still more expensive per serving than most matcha powders on the market.

My Final Verdict

I really like the Tenzo company and the ceremonial grade matcha powder that they provide also seems to be great!

I especially appreciate that the brand provides so much information about where the matcha comes from and the benefits associated with it.

However, I have two issues with the powder!

My first issue is that the recommended serving size of the powder does not meet the recommended dose of matcha powder.

Therefore, to obtain the benefits associated with matcha, you may have to take more than the brand suggests you to.

This means that the cost per serving will be increased if you have to consume more than the recommended serving to reap the benefits associated with the formula.

This brings me to my next issue with the powder – it’s quite expensive in comparison to other matcha powders on the market.

However, saying that, if you really want to purchase Tenza Tea, go for it – it does seem like a good powder. If you have a lower budget though, look elsewhere.
