Zhou Nutrition Deep Greens Review: Ingredients, Dosages, Serving Costs

Zhou Deep Greens is a super greens formula packed with potent vegetables, fruit, grasses, enzymes, adaptogens, probiotics, and prebiotics. The main benefits of the formula are that it helps the body detox, supports gut health, and increases energy levels.

The formula is vegan, dairy-free, gluten-free, and non-GMO. The formula is also certified for Good Manufacturing Practices, it’s USDA certified organic, meaning over 95% of the ingredients are organic, and it’s lab tested.

It’s pretty clear to me that Zhou Nutrition has really gone the extra mile to make this formula stand out from the crowd at an initial glance, so I’m really keen to take a closer look at it.

If you’re also wanting to take a closer look and wondering if this is the best super greens powder for you, I’ve done all of the hard work for you – check out my full Zhou Deep Greens review below.

What is Zhou Deep Greens?

Immediately when taking a look at the Zhou Nutrition site, it’s clear that this is a very successful supplement brand. Everything from the extremely interactive website design to the regularly updated informative articles, screams professional!

My first impression of Zhou Deep Greens is also quite positive. My favorite thing about this formula, on an initial glance, has to be the packaging design.

The branding of the tub really grabs my attention and it certainly stands out from the crowd.

The only thing that taints my first impressions of this product is the fact that the brand hasn’t actually provided a lot of information about the formula’s benefits, or even how to consume the formula. This seems a little strange to me seeing as the rest of the website seems so perfectly executed.

Background on Zhou Nutrition

Zhou Nutrition was founded in 2014 by John Alex Upperman. The brand was born from Upperman’s desire to create supplements that are influenced by both ancient medicinal practices and modern science.

In 2017, Nutraceutical, a huge supplement distributor, became Zhou Nutrition’s parent organization. The purchase price was rumored to be approximately $19 million, showing just how successful the brand had been in only 3 years.

As well as the Deep Greens formula, Zhou Nutrition produces an array of powerful supplements, with ranges catering for nearly everything, from women’s reproductive health to fitness goals.

Zhou Deep Greens Benefits

The brand doesn’t actually go into a lot of detail about the benefits of this formula on the Zhou Nutrition website, which seems a little bit of a shame, especially when the rest of the website seems so rich in information.

However, the brand does share some of the benefits that this formula will provide the consumer with, and there’s information on the tub itself thankfully.

The brand claims that the formula will give ‘smooth’ energy, it’ll improve focus and clarity, support the digestive system, boost the immune system, support pH balance, reduce stress levels, and aid with detoxing the body.

Zhou Deep Greens Ingredients

Zhou Deep Greens contains 27 ingredients, all of which are organic, vegan, and gluten-free! Unfortunately, as soon as I saw the ingredients list, I felt let down – it’s made up of proprietary blends!

Proprietary blends make it impossible for the consumer to figure out how much of each ingredient actually exists in the formula and therefore it’s hard to tell if the formula will actually work or not.

However, I’ll be looking into that in more depth later.

First, let’s take a look at the ingredients.

  • Energy & Detox Greens (4650mg) – Organic Wheat Grass Powder, Organic Spirulina Powder, Organic Barley Grass Powder (leaf), Organic Alfalfa Grass (leaf), Organic Chlorella Powder (cracked cell), Organic Broccoli Powder, Organic Kale Powder, Organic Spinach Powder.
  • Prebiotic Fiber (2900mg) – Organic Agave Inulin (as TicOrganic), Organic Flax Seed Powder, Organic Apple Fiber (fruit).
  • Immune Boosting Antioxidants (650mg) – Organic Matcha Powder, Organic Beet Root Juice Powder, Organic Ginger Root Powder, Organic Echinacea Powder, Organic Acai Juice Powder, Organic Parsley Powder, Organic Acerola Powder.
  • Focus & Clarity Adaptogens (375mg) – Organic Ashwagandha Powder, Organic Maca Root Powder, Organic Reishi Mushroom Powder, Organic Astragalus Extract.
  • Digestive Enzymes & Probiotics (266mg) – Bromelain (2400 GDU/g), Papain (6000 PU – equivalent to USP U/mg), Bacillus coagulans (100 billion CFU/g) (as Sanzyme)
  • Other Ingredients: Organic Natural Flavor, Organic Green Stevia Leaf Powder.

How does Zhou Deep Greens Taste?

Zhou Deep Greens only contains stevia extract to sweeten it, and therefore the overall flavor is completely natural. The stevia extract is noticeable when consuming the formula, as it does taste sweet, but it doesn’t cover the grassy taste.

If you’re not used to consuming unflavoured super greens, you would probably be best trying to disguise the taste of this formula by adding it into a shake or smoothie.

Side Effects

There is a caution label on the Zhou Deep Greens tub stating that people that are pregnant, breastfeeding, under 18, or have a medical condition, should consult a medical professional before consuming. This is pretty much standard advice from supplement brands and it’s something I always say too.

However, the warning that concerns me is the P65 warning (a warning that has to be shown in California) saying that the product may cause reproductive harm.

Does Zhou Deep Greens Work?

As you can see from the ingredients list, the Zhou Deep Greens formula is made up of proprietary blends. Proprietary blends are my worst nightmare when it comes to looking at supplement formulas, and there’s a good reason why.

If a brand uses proprietary blends, it’s impossible for the consumer to not only figure out how much of each ingredient they’re actually consuming, but it also makes it impossible to work out if the formula will actually work or not.

However, I’ll do my best to look at the blends and come to a rough conclusion on whether the formula will work or not.

…there may be some ingredients that hit the recommended dosage and therefore actually provide benefits

I always find it useful to take a look at an ingredient often in super greens formulas, and that’s normally Spirulina. The daily recommended dosage of Spirulina sits between 1-3g.

In this formula, Spirulina is second in the list of its 4650mg blend (ingredients are listed by weighting) and therefore the amount could actually reach the low end of the daily recommended dosage.

Aswagandha Root and Powder

Let’s also take a look at another ingredient – Ashwagandha.

The daily recommended dosage of Ashwagandha sits between 250mg – 600mg (2), and as the Ashwagandha exists in a 375mg blend, it’s very unlikely that there’s going to be an adequate amount in this formula.

Overall, there may be some ingredients that hit the recommended dosage and therefore actually provide benefits, but it’s unclear whether others will.

Zhou Deep Greens Reviews

Zhou Deep Greens formula is available on Amazon and there are 19 customer ratings of it. Overall, the formula scores 4.4 stars out of 5 stars and there are no reviews that are rated below 3-stars.

Let’s take a look at a selection of these reviews below.

I have been mixing deep greens in my fruit and veggie smoothies every day now for the past 2 weeks. I feel so much better and energetic. I had been feeling sluggish and bloated from all the holiday bad diet habits, this was just what i needed to feel better and kick start my healthy eating habits again! I would not recommend mixing with water alone, it has a very “earthy” flavor, but that disappears when mixed into a smoothie! Great product Zhou!!5-star review

I really enjoy adding this to a smoothie, anything less thick makes the flavor just taste grassy. It’s not a bad flavor but mixing it into a green smoothie is best! For overall extra nutrients, this is an easy way to boost your daily intake.5-star review

I got some as a gift and decided to try it. I've been using it in smoothies almost daily for a couple of months. I haven't noticed any improvement in my energy levels or mental gymnastics since using it but it tastes pretty good. My only real complaint is that it contains stevia. Why?! Stevia has been known to cause health problems. I assume adults are the main consumer of this product so, just leave out the cockadoody sweetener! I'm a big boy now so I don't need everything to taste sweet in order for me to actually eat or drink it.5-star review

Money-Back Guarantee / Returns Policy

Where to buy Zhou Deep Greens?

You can buy Zhou Deep Greens formula from the Zhou Nutrition website and third-party websites such as Amazon and Walmart.
Is It Worth The Price?

A 273g tub of Zhou Deep Greens costs $28.89 and contains 30 servings. This means that the cost per serving works out at $0.96. This is a really reasonable price for a super greens formula, even if it does contain proprietary blends.

Zhou Nutrition does offer international shipping, and shipping rates depend on where you are in the world, but if you spend more than $30 you qualify for free shipping.

My Final Verdict

My first impressions of this brand, and this product, we're really positive and I really hoped that as I dug deeper, it would only get better.

There is a but there, and that's when we delved into the ingredients list.

Unfortunately, I simply can’t recommend this formula when I know that there are better formulas out there with fully disclosed ingredients labels.

Lastly, it is important to say that the only reason I can’t recommend it is because of the proprietary blends, every other box is ticked.
