Perricone MD Super Greens review

Perricone MD Super Greens Review

Although most people might know Perricone MD as a brand that produces holistic anti-aging skincare products, the brand also has a super greens formula. The Perricone MD Super Greens formula is a popular superfoods formula, especially as it’s classed as an essential step in the Perricone MD three tier philosophy of health – more on this later!

The formula contains a wide range of greens, specifically greens that are packed with antioxidants, as well as herbal extracts and probiotics.

Perricone MD claims that the ingredients within the formula will not only benefit overall wellbeing, but also support the digestive system, provide antioxidant protection, and improve the appearance of the skin, hair, and nails.

It’s clear that the brand is choosing to prioritize the aesthetic and cosmetic benefits that consumers can receive from consuming super greens, so it’s interesting to see this approach being taken.

I’m really eager to take a closer look at the Perricone MD Super Greens formula to see if it will actually provide consumers with the benefits the brand claims it will, and to see if a cosmetics brand can actually produce a super greens formula as well as supplement brands can.

So, if you’re also keen to take a look at the formula in more detail, take a look at my full Perricone MD Super Greens review below.

Perricone MD Super Greens First Impressions

As soon as I click onto the Perricone MD website the impression I get is that the brand is a cosmetics brand targeted towards women, and I suppose really, it is! So, they’ve hit the nail on the head here if I was a woman looking for an eye cream or a brightening serum.

However, as someone looking for a super greens supplement, I’m not intrigued by the website and it doesn’t feel as if the brand would actually know about nutrition or supplements. So, straight away, I feel like I would choose an actual supplement brand over a cosmetics brand that makes supplements.

Nonetheless, looking at the Super Greens formula, there’s a lot of information about what the formula can do for you as a potential customer, and the branding of the formula is pleasant. However, I would like to see more information about who the formula is suitable for, as there’s no information about whether it’s vegan, vegetarian, dairy-free, gluten-free, etc!

So far, I’m not overly impressed by the Perricone MD Super Greens formula, and I’m hoping that when I look at the ingredients list, it’s actually all about nutrition and not about aesthetics.

Background on Perricone MD

Dr. Nicholas Perricone, world-renowned author, and certified dermatologist started Perricone MD (known in 1997 as Clinical Creations) in 1997. The brand produced and still produces skincare products and supplements that treat, or attempt to treat, the aging process.

Every product produced by the brand is supposed to benefit the consumer from the inside out, and be part of the ‘three-tier philosophy’. The three-tier philosophy is the brand’s philosophy of young-looking, healthy skin and it consists of a healthy diet, nutritional supplements, and topical skincare.

Perricone MD mainly produces cosmetic products, however, there are 7 different types of supplements available on their website, including fish oil, superfruit formula, and weight management capsules.

As of September 2020, Perricone MD has been bought by The Hut Group, so there might be some new changes coming soon!

Perricone MD Super Greens Benefits

The brand is very straightforward when it comes to talking about the benefits that the Super Greens formula will provide the consumer, which I do appreciate – who doesn’t want to see a simple, concise list of benefits that formula will provide?!

The brand claims that the Super Greens formula will help nourish the body and increase the overall wellbeing, provide powerful antioxidants (therefore protecting cells from radical damage and pushing toxins from the body), promote healthy hair, skin, and nails, boost the immune system and support the digestive system.

Although I would say that if the ingredients within the formula are sufficiently dosed there would be more benefits, there’s still quite a wide range of health benefits that the brand claims the formula will provide which is good to see.

Perricone MD Super Greens Ingredients

The Perricone MD Super Greens formula contains over 30 ingredients, including flavoring ingredients. Unfortunately, the formula is up of proprietary blends, so all of the ingredients exist within a blend and the amount of each ingredient, therefore, isn’t shown.

However, I’ll be taking a look at the efficacy of the ingredients within the formula more closely later on in the review.

Here is the complete list of Perricone MD Super Greens ingredients:

  • Greens Blend (1,100mg) – Spirulina, Kale, Wheatgrass, Parsley, Spinach, Broccoli, Barley Grass, Chlorella, Alfalfa, Green Cabbage, And Watercress
  • Nrf2 Antioxidant Support Complex (300mg) – Green Tea Leaf Extract (45% Egcg, 98% Polyphenols), Olive Leaf Extract (16% Oleuropein), Turmeric Rhizome Extract (Curcuma Longa) (95% Curcuminoids) (Curcumin C3 Complex®), Broccoli Sprout Extract (Broccophane®)
  • Methylsulfonylmethane (Msm) (200mg)
  • Probiotic Blend (14mg) – Bacillus Coagulans, Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium Lactis, L. Reuteri
  • Other Ingredients – Maltodextrin, Guar Gum, Malic Acid, Natural Flavors, Citric Acid, Sunflower Lecithin, Rebaudioside A, Silica, Spirulina (Color), And Apple Fruit Powder

How does Perricone MD Super Greens Taste?

The Super Greens formula has a lot of flavoring ingredients, including apple fruit powder, so there’s no surprise that this is what the formula tastes like.

Although you do get hints of the super greens ingredients, it isn’t overpowering and most people really like the taste of the formula, even when it’s just mixed with water.

Side Effects

Although there aren’t any side effect warnings on the Perricone MD website, the brand does have a California Prop 65 warning against it, meaning that it could contain ingredients that cause cancer, reproductive harm, or birth defects.

Obviously, this is slightly worrying! However, the brand hasn’t commented on it.

As I will always recommend, if you’re under 18 years old, pregnant (especially in this case), breastfeeding (ditto), on medication or you have a medical condition, you should check with your doctor before consuming any new supplement.

Does Perricone MD Super Greens Work?

I’m very skeptical over whether the Perricone MD Super Greens formula will actually work.

Firstly, the proprietary blends within the formula only make up 1.6g of the serving size (5.5g individual packets of formula), so does that mean that the other 3.9g is made up of the flavoring ingredients?

Also, looking at the greens blend, it’s clear that most of the ingredients aren’t sufficiently dosed.

For example, the recommended daily dose of spirulina is between 1-3g, the recommended daily dose of wheatgrass is 3-5g, and the recommended daily dose of chlorella is 2-5g.

So, it’s impossible for these ingredients to be sufficiently dosed in a 1.1g blend.

The formula is nowhere near as nutrient-dense as the brand makes out, especially because most of the formula is made up of flavoring and filler ingredients.

Perricone MD Super Greens Reviews

Perricone MD Super Greens are available on Amazon, and out of the 39 ratings on there, the formula scores 4.3 stars out of 5 stars overall.

Let’s take a look at some of these reviews below.

LOVE this stuff! The flavor is awesome. Tastes like a green tart apple. I'm doing a 10 day fast. This REALLY helps alleviate hunger pains and makes sure that I'm still getting vitamins and nutrition that I need. Day 2 and I'm already down 3 lbs! I don't always get enough greens in my diet… so, I'm going to continue with this after my fast.5-star reviewer

I made my first drink with too much water. Didn't taste bad just too diluted. Try it with only 8 oz of water. Tastes much better. Not bad. I've made my own drinks that were using super greens. This one does taste better. I only wish they actually put in some Green Apple that would so improve the taste!3-star reviewer

DO NOT BUY! COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY, DOES NOTHING FOR YOU.1-star reviewer

Money-Back Guarantee / Returns Policy

It seems as though Perricone MD doesn't offer any refunds or exchanges, nevermind a money-back guarantee.

Where to buy Perricone MD Super Greens?

You can buy Perricone MD Super Greens from the Perricone MD website, from Amazon, from Walmart, and from other third-party retailers online.

Is It Worth The Price?

Perricone MD Super Greens comes in a packet with 30 single-serving sticks of the formula. One 30 day packet of the formula costs $80, which works out at a cost per serving of $2.66.

You can subscribe to the formula to save 15% off your first order (making it a cost per serving of $2.26), and 40% off recurring orders (making it a cost per serving of $1.60).

Regardless of whether you choose to subscribe and save, or you choose to buy the formula on a one-time purchase, this formula is incredibly overpriced for what it is. For a similar price point, you can buy a super greens formula with a fully disclosed ingredients list.

The Bottom Line

Ultimately, I feel like Perricone MD has completely missed the mark when it comes to this formula. I think the brand is just selling supplements at a high price because they know that loyal customers will buy them, without putting too much care into the supplements themselves. That’s certainly the case with the Super Greens formula.

I’m sure that Perricone MD produces great cosmetics and topical skin care products, but I wouldn’t buy their Super Greens formula.

The formula isn’t only made from proprietary blends, but the ingredients are almost certainly not sufficiently dosed, most of the formula is made up of the flavoring ingredients and so for what you're getting it seems a little overpriced.

Unfortunately, if I was looking for a strong super greens that I would be confident had the right dosage I would look elsewhere.
