• Sodium Nitrite, a ‘storage form’ of nitric oxide that is readily used by the body

Normally the claims listed above would be a little too strong for my taste.

All in all, I think Neo40 is a great product.

But it could still be better.

Neo40 features a few too many proprietary blends than I’d like to see, meaning we don’t know exactly how much beetroot powder or L-citrulline is in it.

Until better (i.e, more transparent) options become available, though, Neo40 remains one of the market’s best nitric-oxide-boosting supplements.

I’ve reviewed several of Gundry MD’s other products in the past (including Primal Plants and Vital Reds), so I’m fairly familiar with this brand and the man behind it.

Steven Gundry MD is a former cardiac surgeon who segued into the wellness marked once he realized that certain nutritional problems were behind many of the western world’s modern health conditions.

Gundry went on to found an exclusive private practice, the Center for Restorative Medicine, while also reaching the masses through his supplement brand. In addition, Dr. Gundry has penned several best-selling books, including ‘Plant Paradox: the hidden dangers in ‘healthy’ foods that cause weight gain’.

But let’s focus on Gundry MD’s supplemental products for now.

Among the many products in his lineup are reds blends, probiotics, and weight loss supplements. Many of these products are designed around Dr. Gundry’s belief in leaky gut, a digestive disorder that may allow irritating food particles to enter the bloodstream.

MCT Wellness: A Basic Overview

MCT Wellness is a powdered MCT product designed to mix into smoothies or drinks.

Its primary active ingredient is a “uniquely potent blend of caprylic acid — one of the most powerful medium-chain triglycerides known to man — and bioflavonoids”.

Gundry claims this formula can boost metabolism, increase energy levels, and promote cognitive function.

That’s just the start of the brand’s marketing claims, however.

In case you haven’t noticed, these are some strong claims.

Let’s test their accuracy by seeing if MCT Wellness’s ingredients measure up.

MCT Wellness: What’s In It?

MCT Wellness is made in a GMP Certified Facility and tested for quality, purity, and precision by 3rd-party facilities.

Theoretically, at least one scoop daily may be enough to deliver several tangible health benefits. (We can’t know for sure, however, due to the problematic proprietary blends mentioned above.)

C8 MCT Oil Powder

Also known as caprylic acid, C8 MCT oil is a special type of MCT (medium-chain triglyceride) oil. While all medium-chain fats are pro-metabolism, pro-thyroid, and pro-ketosis, 8-carbon MCTs may help you get into ketosis even faster than the rest.

There may not be enough of these extracts in MCT Wellness, however; a typical dose is somewhere in the 1,000mg range, while this product contains only 400mg in total.

Red Grape Extract

Red grape extract is another potent antioxidant source.

This one is especially rich in resveratrol, the healthspan-increasing compound famously found in red wine.

True to its proprietary name (CogniGrape), the red grape extract may reduce one’s chance of experiencing cognitive decline as one gets older. Most studies use a slighter higher dosage than the 250mg present in MCT Wellness, however. (Source)

MCT Wellness: My Werdict

Dr. Gundry has a very solid reputation in the medical and wellness worlds.

He’s helped thousands of people attain better health as an MD and a provider of theoretically-great supplements.

Somewhere along the lines, though, MCT Wellness fails to jump from theory to wellness. Its combination of unknown ingredients and high pricing makes for a pretty poor cost-benefit analysis.

If I’m going to spend 70+ dollars on an MCT-based product, I’m going to want to know exactly how many MCTs are in it!

Until Gundry’s products are labeled more transparently (are more thoroughly researched), I’ll be getting my MCTs from elsewhere. Perhaps from good old-fashioned, highly affordable coconut oil.

Why Omega 3’s Are So Important

Omega XL is an ultra-popular omega-3 capsule supplement derived from mussels.

The brand that produces Omega XL, Greater HealthWorks, makes some pretty big claims surrounding their product. They also market Omega XL as the ‘ultimate joint health and mobility support supplement.’ According to Greater HealthWorks, OmegaXL is “backed by over 35 years of clinical research” and “promotes joint, muscle, immune and respiratory health.”

They also claim that their green-lipped mussel extract contains over 30 different fatty acids and is over 20 times stronger than tegular fish oil. But is all this true?

The brand behind Omega XL

Great HealthWorks was founded in 2003 to deliver quality health and wellness products to consumers, making “meaningful differences in people’s lives.”

This all sounds pretty good, but there’s one glaring issue: Great HealthWorks has some pretty rough Google reviews. We’ll cover that in the upcoming reviews section.

Omega XL: Key Ingredients

Omega XL has several active ingredients. In addition to its mussel extract (rich in the omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA), it also contains vitamin E and olive oil.

A 50-person study found that this New Zealand Green-Lipped Mussel extract (it’s officially called PCSO-524) may be more effective than regular fish oil.

Half of these participants took the mussel extract, while half took fish oil. 89% of the mussel group experienced reduced joint pain, while 91% of them reported improved overall quality of life. The fish oil group, on the other hand, experienced almost no improvement whatsoever.

There’s one major problem with Omega XL’s ingredients list: they’re present as part of a proprietary blend. That means we simply can’t know how much mussel extract, how much olive oil, or how much vitamin E you’ll get in each serving.

All we know is that these three ingredients amount to 300mg in total!

Greater HealthWorks claims Omega XL has over 15,000 5-star reviews. On Amazon, it has an incredible 20,000+ reviews at an average of 4.2 stars each.

Considering that the average product gets reviewed by only 1-2% of its purchasers, it’s possible that over 2 million people have bought Omega XL on Amazon.

Among the many positive ones are truly lifechanging reports like these:

When you try to call to cancel, they keep you on hold for 2 hours. If you call to place an order, the wait is only 5 minutes (how strategic). I called intending to cancel, but tried the place an order option, waited only 5 minutes, I explained to the rep I'm trying to cancel, and then again was put on hold for 2 hours. I can’t give Omega XL the greenlight for several reasons. Its mussel-based omega-3 might be cutting edge, but it’s virtually impossible to know how many actual omega-3 fatty acids are in this product.

I also dislike how difficult it is for customers to opt-out of accidental subscriptions. Greater HealthWorks may have a premium product, but they need to pair this product with equally premium transparency.

ONNIT Total Human: Does It Have Side Effects?

ONNIT’s Total Human has one major potential downside: its side effects. Take a look at the product’s Amazon reviews and you’ll see that some people just don’t respond well to Total Human. This can show up in the form of nausea, stomach upset, or even diarrhea.

For some people, these side effects are worth dealing with:

Day 1: Didn’t take 1st Day pack with breakfast. Immediately passed most of it in my first trip to the bathroom. Still could feel an uptick in energy & focus. Night pack had an immediate positive impact on sleep. It gave me TylenolPM depth of sleep with little grogginess the next morning. Came out of the fog very quickly.

For others, not so much:

I do not know whether it was Alpha Brain or some other ingredient but after taking the day pack I felt light-headed and sick on my stomach for much of the day, it was like my brain was in a fog. I have never had any problem with any other supplement before so it was a surprise that I reacted this way. I took them the next day to see if it was a one-off experience but I felt the same way the next day. After stopping I am back to feeling normal.

We’ve reviewed quite a few ONNIT products recently, and we’ve found all of them to be winners when it comes to nutrient profiles, product testing, and general quality.

The only drawback to Total Human is one that’s common to so many other supplements: its proprietary blends lead to a lack of transparency. We can’t be sure exactly how much or how little of certain ingredients are in Total Human.

Another potential downside: compared to more conventional daily multivitamins, this one is quite pricey.

Unbloat First Impressions

My first impressions of the Unbloat website are very mixed – the website's design seems colorful, vibrant, and fun, but there’s a complete lack of information about the Unbloat product.

Unfortunately, there’s not much information about the brand, there’s a lack of transparency surrounding the ingredients and the amounts of the ingredients in the capsules, and the research that backs up the product.

Although the site's design might be nice, it’s concerning that there’s such a lack of information about the product – the brand is not being transparent as I would like.

Background on Unbloat

Unbloat was founded by Dr. Shilpa Mehra, a Board-Certified Gastroenterologist, after spending over 14 years helping people reduce their bloat independently.

Although there is a real lack of information about the Unbloat brand online, the brand’s social media seems to have just emerged at the end of 2021, which leads me to believe it was most likely launched then too.

Unbloat Ingredients

Unbloat contains 40 essential ingredients. However, the company has provided absolutely no information about the ingredients within the formula, the amounts of the ingredients that they do share, or the total amount of the capsules.

The company hasn’t even provided a photo of the full ingredients label!

Instead, the company simply shares information about certain ingredients within the formula and their benefits – this isn’t sufficient.

The fact that Unbloat has decided not to share but to hide the ingredients label and the information about the amounts of each ingredient actively is incredibly concerning – are they hiding something, or do they know that the capsules just don’t contain sufficiently dosed ingredients?

Obviously, without knowing what ingredients and how many of the ingredients exist within the capsules, it’s impossible to comment on the formula's efficacy – this makes it very difficult to feel certain whether the capsules will actually be beneficial or not!

However, I’ll be taking a closer look into the efficacy of the capsules later in this review.

First, let’s look at the ingredients the brand has decided to share with us!

How does Unbloat Taste?

Because Unbloat is a capsule supplement, there is no taste associated with the supplement.

Of course, if you hold the capsule in your mouth before swallowing too long, there will be a taste (not a pleasant one!), so try to swallow the capsules straight away.

Side Effects

There are no side effects associated with the Unbloat capsules.

However, since the capsules contain a variety of potent ingredients, I would suggest that if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, on medication, or have a medical condition, you should consult a doctor before consuming them.

Does Unbloat Work?

I have tried several recommended probiotics before, and sometimes without taking them for some time, it's difficult to know how well they're working.

This is the case with the Unbloat formula, too, mainly because there is very little information about the ingredients within the capsules, the amount of each ingredient in the formula, or the overall serving size of each capsule.

This lack of information doesn’t just make it difficult to work out whether or not the capsules will be effective or not, but it’s genuinely concerning.

A supplement brand should always display the amounts of the capsules and the amounts of each ingredient within the capsules, or at least share a photo of the full ingredients label.

However, Unbloat hasn’t done either of these things.

Since all of this information is completely missing, it’s unclear whether the capsules will work or not.

However, I would assume that since the brand has hidden (or at least not provided) this information, it’s likely that many of the capsules' ingredients are not sufficiently dosed.

Although Unbloat capsules may provide benefits since they contain a selection of potent ingredients, I would never consume anything that isn’t properly labeled, and I certainly wouldn’t want to buy a supplement from a company that hides vital information from their customers.

However, since Unbloat is not available on Amazon and only through the Unbloat website, I am forced to look at the reviews on the Unbloat website.

So, remember to take them with a pinch of salt!

Overall, I like the brand. It’s transparent about the ingredients within the capsules, it provides an adequate amount of information both about the “nose-to-tail” style of eating and supplementing and the individual supplements that it produces.

However, there are two things that I’m not too keen on when it comes to the brand’s message.

Firstly, there’s absolutely no scientific backing that consuming a specific organ will provide benefits to that organ within your own body, so take this with a pinch of salt.

Secondly, I think it is a shame that the message this brand seems to be putting across is that eating “nose-to-tail” is the only way to improve health – this is clearly not true and there are many ways, both vegetarian and vegan, to improve health and support the body.

However, if you are going to try out the collagen, this product is sufficiently dosed, so you may want to try it to see if it makes a difference and provides you with health benefits.

Noom definitely looks like an impressive and interesting app. The Noom website itself (not the app), is packed with information about the app, the visuals are great, and the branding is superb!

What Does Noom Offer?

When you sign up to the Noom, after completing a personalization quiz, the app offers several personalized features.

The app includes features such as daily lessons, one-on-one coaching, SOS plans, calorie tracking lists, exercise habit trackers, and support groups with other app users.

Additionally, alongside the Noom weight loss service, Noom also provides a diabetes prevention program and a stress-relieving service.

How Does Noom Work?

The concept of Noom is quite simple – it provides you with trackers for both the food you eat and the exercise you do, as well as one-on-one coaching and peer support groups.

However, in order to specifically provide benefits to the consumer, the app personalizes all of these features.

When you join the app you have to take a thorough quiz that asks you a variety of questions, including information about your current biometrics, your family history, your relationship with exercise and food, and your weight loss or fitness goals.

Noom is dangerous. And I cannot recommend this for anyone who is struggling with low self esteem or has in the past showed tendencies for disordered eating (orthorexia, anorexia, bulimia). They categorize foods into good and bad using the red, yellow, green rating. This is a big no for anyone prone to eating disorders and it is the gateway for people that do not have an eating disorder to adapt one. Foods should never be categorized this way. This program favors diet products. Like non-fat yoghurt. Or other fat reduced foods. You get immediately rated red if you choose the natural state of the product with all fat included. Which is also very dangerous as diet products are often overly processed and do not maintain all the nutrients needed.
