What Are Greens Powders?

First, though…what are greens powders?

Why are they getting so incredibly popular?

Their newfound popularity is probably because they make good nutrition simple.

You may not have the time to down dozens of vegetables or mix up spirulina and chlorella-infused smoothies every day…but you probably have plenty of time to stir a package of greens powder into your next cup of water.

Greens powders are also loved for their ability to provide users with clean, steady, non-jittery energy. You won’t find any energy crashes here!

Last but not least, greens powders are ultra-alkalizing.

They might make it easier for your body to balance out its pH, protecting your bones from calcium leaching in the long run. (Source)

In previous articles, I’ve done a round-up of the best greens, check out the list here.

I’ve also dived deep into the ingredients in Athletic Greens AG1.

Morning Man Greens: The Basics

Morning Man Greens is a greens powder designed specifically for men.

How’s it different than other greens powders, you may ask?

In several ways — all of which are extensively covered on Morning Man Greens’ website. “[…] Us men need more,” the makers of Morning Man Greens explain.

More nutrients, more caffeine, more balls.

According to these manly makers, Morning Man Greens differs from the rest in three major ways:

  • Better taste. They claim:
  • Most greens taste like you're sucking on the bottom of the mower, not ours. It's no PBR, but it's best tasting green drink on the market. Guaranteed.

  • Better buzz. Morning Man contains more caffeine than most greens powders (95mg/serving, to be exact.)
  • Better intention. Morning Man Greens are “hand forged for men, by men.” According to its makers, Morning Man should be “EVERY man's #1 superfood fuel.”

Pros

  • Fun, specialized marketing
  • 75 ingredients (including probiotics)
  • Available in either pouches or sachets
  • Tastes great (according to most)
  • Vegan-friendly and gluten-free

Cons

  • Quite expensive ($79 to $99 per month depending on how much you buy)
  • The probiotic component is questionable
  • Too many proprietary blends

Morning Man Greens: Top Ingredients

There are 75 ingredients in Morning Man Greens, including 43 superfoods and what they claim are 12 servings of veggies’ worth of antioxidants.

While conventional energy drinks blast you with caffeine and synthetic B vitamins until you feel something, Morning Man Greens pairs its naturally uplifting greens with just enough caffeine to give you that cognitive edge.

At first glance, you might think that Morning Man’s incredible ingredient diversity is a good thing…and in some ways, it might be.

However, there’s no way that appreciable amounts of all 75 of these ingredients can be packed into a 12-gram serving.

Something (or somethings) is almost guaranteed to be under its therapeutically-relevant dosing.

Morning Man’s Top Proprietary Blends

While Morning Man Greens may have a noble ideal, in theory, their product doesn’t always deliver in practice.

That’s because it contains far too many proprietary blends.

Here are the details so you can see for yourself:

  • Proprietary Raw Superfood Blend (7,388mg total): Spirulina, Organic alfalfa powder, Organic barley leaf power, Organic wheat grass juice powder, Green tea extract, Green coffee bean extract, Organic chlorella powder, Insulin (probiotic), Acerola fruit juice powder extract, Apple powder, Broccoli flower powder, Mango fruit powder, Pineapple fruit concentrate, Bilberry fruit extract, Beetroot powder,
Carrot root powder, Spinach leaf powder, Coca bean polyphenol extract, Grape seed extract, Licorice root powder, Lycium berry fruit extract, Ginger rhizome powder, Slippery elm bark powder, Kelp whole plant powder, Blueberry juice powder.
  • Herbs, Extracts, and Mushroom Complex (2,802mg total): Pea protein isolate, Citrus bioflavonoid extract, Artichoke leaf extract, Citric acid, Rhodiola root dry extract, Eleuthero root extract,
Rosemary leaf extract, Milk thistle seed extract, Ashwagandha root extract, Holy basil leaf extract, Hawthorn berry extract, Reishi mushroom powder, Shiitake mushroom powder, Monk fruit extract.
  • Digestive Enzyme & Dairy-Free Probiotic Blend (122mg total): Psyllium husk powder, Bromelain, Burdock root powder, Lactobacillus plantarum.

Morning Man Greens: How Does It Taste?

Morning Man’s makers affirm on their website:

As a NATTY Ice and Boons Farm connoisseur, we know you are a man of good taste.

They go on to explain that, while Morning Man Greens may not taste quite as good as a PBR, it’s still pretty dang tasty.

In fact, they claim it’s the best-tasting greens powder on the market!

Is it really, though?

We’ll see what actual customers say about Morning Man’s taste later on…

Does Morning Man Have Side Effects?

Not as far as I can tell.

Customers don’t seem to be reporting side effects, either.

It’s possible that people who are super sensitive to caffeine may experience a little bit of jitteriness from Morning Man.

Beyond that, this product is likely side-effect-free.

Morning Man Greens: Customer Reviews

Morning Man’s website is replete with reviews from enthusiastic, impressed, and occasionally quite humorous customers.

Some of these customers are more on the archetypal (i.e, imaginary) side.

A review from “Another Man” attests that it “Helps with bears.”

There’s also a review from “Your Grandpa,” who tells you to “Man up Sally.”

Last but definitely not least, a review from “Your Wife,” who simply says, “Buy It.”

Does Morning Man Greens make your wife look like that?

If it did, it might become even more popular than it already is…

But there’s also plenty of serious introspection to be had here.

You’ll find dozens and dozens of 4 and 5-star reviews from real customers on Morning Man’s website.

Below are some of the highlights.

Kevin’s not a huge fan of the taste, but he does love the extra energy:

This is more of a chug drink (just do it and get it over with kind). Nonetheless, every morn I put down a serving and head to work. The kick of caff could be a little more! Maybe it’s because I’m used to an energy drink or coffee besides this. I do feel better throughout the First part of the day than when I drink this green-ness! Need to start adding it to my mid day to see if it help finish the work day. Good kick start though!

Another reviewer says life has become almost movie-like thanks to his over-the-top masculinity — and it’s all thanks to Morning Man Greens:

Aww where do I start…Morning Man is the yayo if I was Scarface …My little moonshine jar that peels my eyelids open beyond expansion! It has elevated my game that I no longer use the doors on my truck but simply climb out the window like the dukes of hazard boys. I now come onto the jobsite like a rabid fighting rooster sending anybody in my path running home [to their] mothers in complete aww and fear of my hulk like masculinity! [Thank] you Morning Man for your perfectly blended concoction of pure adrenaline causing product. To you I tip my hard hat and say well done gentlemen…well done.

Morning Man Greens: Where to Buy

Is Morning Man Greens Worth the Price?

Pricing might just be Morning Man Greens’ single biggest downside.

This product normally costs $99.95 per month.

That’s equivalent to just over $3 per serving!

On the bright side Morning Man Greens is currently on sale for $69.95, but it’s unclear how long this sale will last.

Morning Man’s steep price is also somewhat redeemed by the brand’s impressive money-back guarantee.

Morning Man is one of the few brands I know of that offers a one-year guarantee on its products:

The brand states

From one man to another, we want to make sure you love your Morning Man Greens. So we're going to offer you a 365-Day MAN OF OUR WORD Guarantee. Where in a world where a man's word is bond, we will give you your money back if you want it back. That's our guarantee for 365 days.

Even better, you can return Morning Man Greens for virtually any reason, no questions asked:

If you try it out, hate the taste, don't feel anything, don't like the bag, hate the marketing, or just realize that money is tight and you made a mistake, email us at manly@morningman.org and we got you.

Morning Man Greens: My Verdict

All in all, I’m a tentative fan of Morning Man Greens.

Between the clever marketing and impressive money-back guarantee, it’s easy to see why so many men are flocking to this greens powder!

I just wish that Morning Man would introduce a little more transparency into their product labeling, similar to what I’ve done with Supergreen Tonik. If they did that, they’d have a truly top-rated product.

Why Are Meal Replacement Shakes Important?

Meal replacement shakes used to have a mixed reputation, mostly down to poor quality shakes and unethical business models.

But today, meal replacement shakes are 100x better, and their reputation has been restored.

Hundreds of studies have shown that meal replacement shakes can be incredibly effective for short-term weight loss as well as long-term weight maintenance. (Source)(Source)

Evidence shows that their use can help reverse metabolic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and heart disease.

But it isn’t just weight loss and weight management that meal replacement shakes are good for.

They can also help to improve your nutrition.

Often, shakes contain fibre, omega-3 fatty acids, plant-based protein, and a complete list of vitamins and minerals.

Meal replacement shakes are convenient and have a low cost per serving.

You can make a meal replacement shake in 30 seconds or less, making them ideal for busy people who struggle to eat well during the day.

Rootana Ingredients List

Rootana contains very few ingredients compared to some meal replacement shakes.

Contrary to what you might think, this is a good thing.

They are using high-quality natural ingredients and avoiding the use of artificial lab-created ingredients such as sucralose.

Rootana contains 400 calories per serving, with 16 grams of fat, 44 grams of carbohydrates, 7.1 grams of fiber, and 21 grams of protein.

This is based on the original flavour of Rootana.

Cacao flavor has slightly more fiber and only 14 grams of fat.

Here are the Rootana Cacao supplement facts:

Rootana Cacao Ingredients Label

Oat Flour Powder

Oats are incredibly healthy, and they are a common ingredient in many meal replacement shakes.

At least they are in Good meal replacement shakes!

Rootana uses top-quality oat flour powder as its main source of complex carbohydrates.

Oats are an excellent source of beta-glucan, a soluble fibre that has been linked to reduced cancer risk, lowered blood pressure (in people with hypertension), and improved heart health. (Source)

Oat fibre can also help to improve gut health, which has many other health benefits such as an improved immune system.

Oats can also improve the taste, and the consistency of meal replacement shakes, providing a creamier texture and that oaty flavour that is so popular.

Oats are also a great environmental option due to their sustainability.

An all-around great ingredient.

Pea Protein Isolate

Pea protein is often described as the best plant-based protein source and with good cause.

It is what is known as a complete protein, meaning that it has all of the amino acids required to build muscle and fuel your workouts.

It is absorbed well by the body and can be easily digested, unlike many cheaper protein sources.

Pea protein is not the only source of protein in Rootana (oats and flaxseed also contribute some protein), but it is the main source.

Protein is crucial for building muscle, but it can also help to raise your metabolism, increase your satiety after a meal (which makes dieting easier), and it can help with the repair and recovery of muscle cells after a workout.

Golden Milled Flaxseed

Flaxseed has a number of health benefits. It is a source of plant-based protein.

It contains the building blocks for omega-3 fatty acids (alpha-linolenic acid), and it is an excellent source of dietary fibre.

Flaxseed also contains lignans, which can lower the risk of some cancers, protect your heart, improve your digestion, lower cholesterol, and reduce free-radical damage. (Source)

Sunflower Seed Oil

Sunflower seed oil is the main fat source in Rootana but by no means the only fat source.

It is an excellent source of omega-6 and omega-9 fatty acids.

Combined with the omega-3 fatty acids from the flaxseed, you get an incredibly balanced source of healthy fats in Rootana.

Coconut Sugar

Coconut sugar comes from the sap of the coconut palm tree.

The sap is dried out naturally (often using natural sunlight), and this dried sap is turned into sugar.

Coconut sugar has a lower GI rating than regular sugar, and unlike sucralose or stevia, it is completely natural.

Coconut sugar is mostly used for sweetness, but it can also combine well with the slow-releasing carbohydrates in oats as coconut sugar is fast-releasing.

This means that Rootana will give you both instant energy (coconut sugar) and slowly released energy (oats), a perfect combination.

Sunflower Lecithin

This is a natural way to bind the shake together, improving stability and mixability.

There are some health benefits that are associated with sunflower lecithin, improved cognition and mood for example.

Here are the Rootana Original supplement facts:

Rootana Original Ingredients Label

Rootana Top Benefits

There are many benefits to using Rootana.

Some are nutrition-based, some of them are lifestyle-based, and some of them are practical benefits.

Here are six of the top benefits associated with Rootana use:

1. High In Irotein

Rootana contains 20-21 grams of healthy, plant-based protein in every serving.

Protein can help with weight management, it can improve your metabolism, it can preserve muscles during a diet, and it can also help with rest and recovery if you lead an active lifestyle.

The use of pea protein makes Rootana suitable for vegans and vegetarians, but even meat-eaters will see huge benefits from the increased variety in their protein intake.

2. High In Fibre

Depending on which flavour you choose, you can get between 7.1 grams and 9.4 grams (cacao) of fibre per 400-calorie serving.

Fibre is incredibly important for gut health, cholesterol levels, heart health, and effective weight management.

It gets its fibre from the oat flour as well as the flaxseed. Both of these are excellent sources of healthy fibre.

3. Free From Artificial Sweeteners

If you don’t enjoy the taste of artificial sweeteners, or you have an allergy, then it can be quite difficult to avoid them on a meal replacement shake.

Luckily, Rootana is completely free from artificial sweeteners, using natural coconut sugars instead.

4.High In Omega-3 Fatty Acids

People who follow vegan or vegetarian diets can often struggle to get enough omega-3 fatty acids.

This is because the main sources in the diet come from oily fish.

Rootana uses golden milled flaxseed, which contains alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), a precursor to omega-3 (often described as a building block).

Making it a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids while remaining vegan-friendly.

5. Excellent Value For Money

Rootana has an exceptionally low price per serving, making it a great (healthy) fast-food option.

Compare the cost of a 400-calorie shake to that of a beef burger or curry.

Not only are you choosing a healthy option, but you are saving a fortune with every meal.

6. Easy To Prepare

One of the biggest issues with most diets is the amount of time spent preparing and cooking meals.

You can still do this while taking Rootana, but you don’t have to do it for three meals per day.

Replacing all that hard work each lunchtime with a shake that takes 30 seconds to prepare leaves you more free time to cook a healthy evening meal.

Rootana real ingredients

How To Use Rootana

Grab a Rootana shaker (either their standard one or their top-quality metal shaker) and add 500 ml of cold water and five heaped tablespoons of powder.

Secure the lid tightly, and then shake that shaker vigorously for 10-20 seconds.

You can then either drink it straight out of the shaker or pour it into a glass.

You can change up the recipe slightly if you prefer, blending the powder instead of shaking it.

You can add water, milk, or a non-dairy alternative such as oat milk.

Fruit, green vegetables such as spinach, and seeds are another great addition.

As is nut butter.

If your blender can handle it, some people like to add ice cubes, as this creates a colder and more interesting shake.

Just remember that everything you add to Rootana (except for the ice cubes) will add calories to the total.

A standard Rootana shake is 400 calories, while a Rootana shake containing banana, nut butter, oat milk, and strawberries could be closer to 600 calories.

Rootana Pricing

Rootana is sold in packets of 14 meals.

These cost:

  • £24.99 ($28) at a cost of £1.79 per meal ($2).
  • There is free shipping on orders above £45 ($52).

This is similar to Huel, but whereas Huel requires you to purchase two bags as a minimum, Rootana allows you to pick just one.

Rootana Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Free from artificial sweeteners and colorings
  • Plant-based
  • High in protein & Fiber
  • Excellent value for money

Cons

  • Only 2 flavors are available
  • Only available from the Rootana website

Where To Buy Rootana

Rootana is only available to purchase from the Rootana website.

This is both a strength and a weakness.

The benefit is that using their own website helps keep their costs down, translating into a low price per serving.

The downside is that they can’t be found on websites like Amazon.

Rootana My Verdict

Rootana is the most natural meal replacement shake on the market, packed full of healthy real-food ingredients that provide you with all the macro and micronutrients you need to lead a healthy and active life.

The shakes taste great, are good for you, and can be prepared in less than a minute! Even washing up afterward is simple.

No pots, no pans, no cooking utensils.

Just a shaker that can be cleaned instantly.

Dieting can be hard, and many sacrifices must be made, but Rootana can make things much easier for you. It is well worth trying.

If you are a health-conscious parent, you might worry about whether or not your child is eating enough vegetables. If this is the case, you might have considered trying to give the best greens powders for kids, especially if you take them yourself.

However, kids are more sensitive than adults, so the big question is, can my child even HAVE super greens?

There are many benefits to taking greens powders for kids over the traditional multivitamins, and if you give a child a child-friendly version of a super green powder, it can be a great way to give your child the essential greens they are missing.

Unfortunately, most greens powder is unsuitable for kids due to their strength and the RDA for vitamins being higher than those recommended for kids.

If you are considering giving your child super greens, choose a kid-friendly version.

Difference Between Greens Powders For Adults & Kids

The majority of the greens powders you see on the market are not suitable for children and are instead recommended for those who are over the age of 18.

This is not all powders, though, there are some powders you can find that were made for kids to consume and formulated with their specific needs in mind.

So what is the main difference between the greens powder made for kids versus those made for adults?

The biggest difference between greens powders for kids and adults is the strength and amount of vitamins included.

Most adult greens powders contain amounts of some vitamins that are over the daily recommended intake for children.

Another difference is the ingredients included.

Children should stay away from greens powders containing ingredients such as green tea extract and ginseng because of their energy boosting properties.

It is also a good idea for kids to stay away from any ingredients that might alter their hormones, such as maca root.

When buying greens powders for both kids and adults, it is best to get one with a clearly labeled ingredient list, and stay away from those that list “proprietary blend” as you need to know exactly what you are taking.

Greens Powders vs Multivitamins

Multivitamins are generally accepted and used by most consumers, however, greens powders are starting to take over in popularity.

The main difference between the two is what they do for you.

Multivitamins give you the vitamins and minerals you could be lacking in your diet, while greens powders contain all that and added vegetables and other minerals that could help you with even more health benefits.

Another difference is the delivery system.

Multivitamins are sold in tablets or capsules, while greens powders are dehydrated into a powder mixed with water or other liquids.

Most people are now realizing the added benefits that come with greens powders and are making the switch from multivitamins.

Are Greens For Kids Safe?

It is no secret that kids need greens for a healthy diet and good development.

It is also no secret that kids do not like to eat their vegetables as they should.

That’s why parents are looking for alternatives.

plate of greens

Benefits of Greens

Green vegetables are high in calcium, fiber, folate, magnesium, and potassium, essential for your kids and their growing bodies.

You can also find green vegetables packed with vitamins A, B, C, E, and K.

These combinations of vitamins and minerals mean that green veggies are helpful for your kids:

  • Digestion
  • Bone Growth
  • Strength
  • Body Health
  • Immune System
  • Blood Circulation
  • Cholesterol
  • Energy Levels

These benefits are highly important no matter what age you are, but are even more important for kids.

Because kids are growing fast and exposed to many germs and other things throughout their daily lives, these benefits are extremely important for kids to get daily.

That’s why it is best to get your kids in the habit of eating their vegetables as early as possible!

Safety Concerns of Greens Powders

While there are many benefits to greens powders, there are also some concerns to consider in terms of safety for both adults and children.

Some safety concerns of greens powders include:

Interactions with Medication

Some of the ingredients in green powders have been known to interact badly with certain medications.

While this is a more common issue for adults, you will also want to look out for your kids.

Antibiotics are the main medication to look out for kids who are taking greens powders.

You should be careful with cholesterol medications, weight loss drugs, and blood thinners for adults.

Contaminants

Lab tests have shown that some greens powders can contain lead or heavy metals.

This can be a concern in high amounts, especially for children.

Some side effects may include lower energy levels or even organ damage.

Allergies

Another concern is potential allergies.

Some ingredients are highly susceptible to allergies, like wheatgrass and other grasses or other herbs.

If your child is reacting or getting headaches or nausea, you will want to stop them from taking the greens powder and speak with a doctor.

Other Side Effects

Other side effects of powdered greens can include:

  • Diarrhea
  • Stomach Irritation
  • Reactions when combining supplements
  • Drinking with mild or smoothies causes high calorie intake

Powdered greens are a great choice for kids, and in addition to getting your kids all the vegetables they need without having to fight them to include them in their diet, there are many other benefits.

These benefits include:

  • Improves digestion
  • Makes a child feel full between meals, so they reduce snacking
  • Supports Immunity

Issues With Powdered Greens For Kids

One of the biggest issues with powdered greens for kids is similar to the biggest issue with powdered greens for adults: a comprehensive list of ingredients.

It can be hard to know if you are getting too much of an ingredient throughout your day without knowing exactly what is in your greens powders.

Another issue you will likely run into with greens powders is taste.

While adults know that they might not be expecting the best taste and just need to power through for the benefits, kids do not.

Just like getting them to eat their vegetables, getting your kids to take greens powders can be challenging if they don’t like the flavor.

You can always work on hiding this in other recipes if you cannot find a way to convince your child to eat it as intended

kids not eating greens

Verdict

The verdict?

Greens powders can be great for kids and adults alike.

They are extremely beneficial when it comes to closing potential nutrient gaps in your diet, in addition to offering a large number of health benefits.

To know if you are truly getting the best choice for your child, you will need to look at the ingredient list.

The more comprehensive the list is, the better suited it is for you to manage your child’s health and nutrition.

One thing to note is that greens powders should not be a 100% substitute for a healthy diet.

You should still encourage your kids to eat fruits and vegetables at meal times.

You also want to ensure you do not give your kids tons of unhealthy snacks, believing that the greens powder offsets it.

Starting your kid on a journey to healthy eating young is key to them living a long and healthy lifestyle when they are older.

Also, if you give your kids multivitamins or other supplements in addition to greens powders, you will want to be cognizant of how much each nutrient they are getting per day.

Some vitamins and minerals have a suggested daily intake, and your child could be susceptible to side effects if they take too much.

When in doubt, always check with your child’s healthcare provider before starting them on a new regimen or switching things up.

Why Are Greens Products So Important?

Something is lacking in most people’s diets today: greens.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that just 10% of Americans are getting adequate fruits and vegetables. (Source)

Greens powders aren’t a perfect 1:1 substitute for fresh fruits and veggies — they lack fiber and may be lower in several types of antioxidants than their fresh counterparts.

But these powders can help you bridge the gap between nutrient deficiency and sufficiency.

While greens powders aren’t a direct substitute nor an excuse to push whole vegetables off your plate, they can help bridge the gap.

Greens powders may also help assist digestion, circulation, cognition, general energy levels, and more.

Greens powders are thought to be rich enough in B vitamins, minerals, and amino acids to help the body detox from environmental toxins.

Greens powders containing cruciferous vegetables may help your body produce something called glutathione, an internal antioxidant promoting detoxification. (Source)

Greens powders are commonly made in one of two ways. The first method involves dehydrating whole fruits and/or vegetables, then pulverizing them into powder form.

The second method involves juicing fruits and/or veggies, drying out their juice, and then pulverizing it into powder.

A third type of greens powder features some combination of both methods.

Why?

Because some veggies lend themselves to whole dehydration less than others.

On the other hand, the juice from veggies (and fruits) tends to be slightly sweeter and less bitter.

Bulk Complete Greens: The Brand Behind

“We're committed to creating world-class nutrition for every step of your journey,” Bulk explains on their About Page.

How’d Bulk get started?

Like so many other now-mainstream companies, Bulk has humble beginnings.

They got their start in 2006 with a spare bedroom and a £3,000 credit card loan from parents, and they’ve been dedicated to empowering “every athlete and every person” ever since then. And the brand’s goals go even bigger than that; they hope to “transform sports nutrition and wellbeing.”

The stats show that Bulk is well on its way there.

In 2021 they delivered over 20 million products to customers from around the globe.

They aim to provide:

  • The best ingredients
  • The best formulations
  • The best taste
  • The best choice
  • The best service
  • The best brand experience

Lots of superlatives here, that’s for sure!

Let’s objectively examine whether or not Bulk’s Greens Powder lives up to these ideals.

Bulk Complete Greens’ Ingredients List

Complete Greens is a surprisingly simple product, at least as far as greens powders are concerned.

Those familiar with this micro-industry will know it’s not uncommon to see products with 50-100+ ingredients!

So it’s almost refreshing to see that Complete Greens has only 8.

Here are the details.

Bulk Complete Greens Unflavoured/Flavoured Ingredients

In addition to the 8 active ingredients featured in both varieties of Complete Greens, the flavored version gets its taste from an additional 3 inactive ingredients.

  • Natural Flavouring (inactive)
  • Citric Acid (inactive)
  • Steviol Glycosides (inactive)

And below are Bulk Complete Greens’ nutrition stats.

Per 9-gram serving, Complete Greens contains:

  • 28 calories
  • 0.2 grams of fat
  • 0.1 grams of sat. fat
  • 1.5 grams of carbohydrates
  • 0.7 grams of sugar
  • 2.3 grams of fiber
  • 3.7 grams of protein
  • 0.13 grams of salt

Here are the Bulk Complete Greens supplement facts:

Complete Greens’ Top Benefits

Complete Greens has been one of the Bulk brand’s most popular products since it launched in 2012.

They’ve modified the product several times since its inception, bringing its ingredients list down from 25 ingredients to just 8 currently.

“We now have the ethos of ‘less is more', Bulk explains.

The 8 ingredients that remain in Complete Greens are “fully established in sports nutrition”.

I like that Bulk is bucking industry trends and going with larger amounts of the ingredients that matter.

Complete Greens Benefits List

  • Rich in superfoods. Complete Greens contains both spirulina and chlorella, two powdered plant products that are incredibly high in antioxidants, anti-inflammatory agents, chlorophyll, and more.
  • High in fiber. Complete Greens retains much of the fiber found in its original, unprocessed ingredients. Each serving packs in 2.3 grams of fiber. This fiber may help improve bowel motility and regularity. Fiber may also bind to and remove toxins from the digestive tract. (Source)
  • The convenience factor. Complete Greens allows you to load up on 8 different greens with no prepping, chopping, cooking, or chewing required!
  • The versatility. Complete Greens can be added to drinks, smoothies, soups, and whole foods. I also like that customers can choose between flavored and unflavored options.

There’s only one problem with Complete Greens’ potential health benefits: we have no way of knowing if any of them are, well, real.

That’s because none of the eight active ingredients in Complete Greens have their quantity listed anywhere!

I don’t know how much spirulina, chlorella, broccoli, pumpkin seed protein, etc. are in this product.

While we know that each serving of Complete Greens weighs 9 grams, there's absolutely no way of knowing how much each ingredient contributes to that total weight.

It’s not even that Complete Greens overuse those dreaded proprietary blends — it’s just that the product’s ingredients label is incomplete.

How To Use Complete Greens

Using Complete Greens is simple.

Just mix 3.5 scoops (total weight: 9 grams) with ~250 milliliters of water in a shaker bottle.

Consume one or two servings a day.

Bulk says that Complete Greens goes well with some of their other top products, including their Complete Multivitamin Complex and Pro Culture.

It also pairs well with a fruit + Vegan Protein Powder smoothie.

Does Complete Greens Have Side Effects?

It doesn’t seem to have any.

The fact that Complete Greens only has 8 ingredients means that undesirable compound-compound interactions are unlikely.

We didn’t see any customers complaining about side effects, either.

Does Complete Greens Have Positive Customer Reviews?

Complete Greens has well over 1,000 reviews on Bulk’s website.

The average review is 4.5/5 stars.

Considering that under 10% of purchasers typically review a product, over 10,000 people have probably tried Complete Greens at one point or another.

Suffice to say it’s a well-established product.

Complete Greens has a large European customer base.

Here’s a positive review translated from Italian:

“Completely tasteless, it is perfect to add to a fruit smoothie. Although a dose of 3 tsp is recommended, I always put in only one [heaping tsp] and I am fine!”

And here’s another good review, this one translated from Swedish:

“This blend has exactly all the goodness I want in a green drink. I appreciate that it's not sweetened or flavored, I think it just gets weird then. I take a teaspoon in water along with some lemon juice or similar. Tastes perfectly fine then, you get used to it. Will buy bigger packages next time!”

Negative reviews, on the other hand, usually complain about the taste:

“It’s pretty gross, to be honest. Way too heavy on the sweeteners yet still doesn’t manage to mask some of the pretty troubling aftertastes.”

…or the inconsistent customer service:

“For the second time in a row, I've waited well over a month for Bulk to deliver to Ireland. Still don't seem to have any plan in place post-Brexit. Shouldn't have an Irish site live if you can't service the market. Burnt twice, won't be trying again.”

Complete Greens Pricing

Each Complete Greens package costs £34.99, or £0.64 per serving.

That’s reasonable and under what you’d normally see from a greens powder.

However, there’s no chance to save by buying in bulk because the Bulk brand’s whole concept is to offer bulk pricing on everything.

Where To Buy Complete Greens

You can buy complete Greens on the brand’s website here.

As of August 2022, I didn’t see the product on Amazon.

Complete Greens: My Verdict

Complete Greens is a simple, affordable product that’s produced by a brand with a noble mission.

But this product really misses the mark when it comes to transparency.

The only thing I know about Complete Greens is the identity of its 8 active ingredients!

I have no way of knowing how much of any of these ingredients the product contains — nor does anything else.

Add to this lack of transparency Complete Greens’ lackluster taste, and it’s clear better options are available. We cover many such options in our round-up of recommended greens here.

Why Are Greens So Important?

First things first: why have greens powders gotten so popular?

Largely because they make complete nutrition simple.

Not everyone has the extra time or finances to eat dozens of fruits and oodles of vegetables every day.

This becomes even more true when you throw in superfoods like spirulina and chlorella, etc. Taking all of these substances separately would be a health hassle in and of itself!

Greens powders are also purported to increase energy levels…holistically.

They may not give you the fast, cerebral rush of caffeine, but that doesn’t mean they can’t increase energy in other ways.

Many greens enthusiasts say greens powders give them a steady cognitive boost without any crash afterward.

This is especially true if the greens powder contains green tea extract, ginseng, or other energizing compounds.

Collards greens on a table

Greens powders may also confer benefits by balancing out your body’s acid/base load, better known as pH. (Actually, pH is always held in a closely regulated range…eating greens makes such regulation easier and reduces chances of calcium loss). (Source)

There are many benefits to consuming greens powders, list 11 of them in my article.

The Brand Behind Greens Powder Drink

Not much info about Spruce is available on the brand’s website.

Here’s what we did find, though:

  • Spruce was founded in 2018
  • North Carolinian Tony Spencer started Spruce as a family business
  • Initially the brand focused on producing premium-quality, potent CBD products
  • All of Spruce’s products were made in America from the brand’s inception

In recent years Spruce has branched out to provide additional wellness-promoting products — notably the Superfood Greens Powder that’s the subject of this review.

Superfood Green Powder Drink: Key Ingredients

Green Powder Drink contains 91 ingredients, including vitamins, minerals, and whole foods.

That might seem like a good thing…the only problem is that almost all of these ingredients are placed within proprietary blends.

almost all of these ingredients are placed within proprietary blends… some containing very low levels of active ingredients.

I counted 9 such blends, some containing very low levels of active ingredients.

Here’s a closer look at the label, and I also break down each of the proprietary blends.

Greens Powder Drink’s Top Health Benefits

Spruce divides its product’s benefits into three major categories.

Superfood Greens Powder Drink is:

  • Keto-friendly: sweetened with stevia and contains only 2g net carbs per serving, these Greens won’t interfere with your keto or low-carb diet.
  • Immune-boosting: many of the ingredients in Greens Powder Drink have immune-boosting and immuno-modulatory properties.
  • Apocalypse-friendly: if you’re “prepping for SHTF,” Spruce says, then you’ll be glad to hear that the brand’s greens are designed for “maximum storage density and maximum essential nutrients.”

This might all sound good in theory, and points #1 and #3 are likely to hold.

Because Spruce doesn’t fully disclose their products’ ingredients list, however, I can’t be sure of point #2.

Does Greens Powder Drink Have Side Effects?

It doesn’t appear to.

Greens Powder doesn’t even have the poor taste that so many other greens powders suffer from.

Spruce says:

“This is not the ultra bitter kale taste you’d expect, we sweeten it with Stevia, and it’s easy to consume with our natural mixed berry flavor.”

Customers seem to agree with this claim…but more on that next.

Does Greens Powder Drink Have Positive Customer Reviews?

It sure does!

As of August 2022 this relatively new product has 8 custom reviews on their website (unfortunately, I don’t have any additional Amazon reviews to draw from).

Here are some of the highlights.

One happy customer feels Greens Powder Drink is superior to the equally popular Athletic Greens AG1:

“I have tried the athletic greens in the past and it was okay. The taste and ingredients could have been better. However, the Spruce Greens I tried recently has more nutrients, more antioxidants, and a way better flavor.”

Another customer confirms that Spruce’s product tastes super solid:

“I’m in my late 40s and was looking for an easy way to boost my general good health. I was a little intimidated as this was my first “green drink”. I was pleasantly surprised by how easily a full scoop dissolved in an 8oz cup of water. The smell was earthy and sweet, and the slight sweetness tastes terrific. I felt fantastic on day one, and would highly recommend Spruce to anyone looking to up their game. Thank you Spruce you have a convert.”

Yet another customer attests that Greens Powder Drink really can replace coffee:

These [Greens] are INCREDIBLE. They have become a staple in my morning routine. So much so that they’ve replaced coffee. Spruce Greens give me the energy and focus I need to get through the day on top of tasting fantastic. I immediately ordered my second batch. You won’t regret this purchase!

Read the rest of the reviews and you’ll see repeatedly that Spruce aced the taste test here. One customer says:

Better than any other greens powder I've tried,

I’m not sure how they made Greens Powder Drink taste so good, but they did it nonetheless!

Greens Powder Drink Pricing

To put it simply, Spruce’s Greens Powder is VERY expensive.

While the brand rationalizes their products price, citing the fact they don’t cut corners and source each ingredient from the purest of sources, there’s no getting around Greens Powder’s price:

  • 30 servings costs $99, equating to $3.30 per serving
  • 30 servings costs $79.20 if you subscribe, equating to $2.64 per serving (a 20% discount)

On the bright side, Spruce is said to have excellent customer service. The company is known for its prompt shipping (2-4 business days) and generous return policy.

You can get a full refund on any item — whether a CBD product or this Greens Powders — if you return the product within 30 days.

Spruce personally responds to most customer reviews, too, and has been known to thank customers for their purchases.

Spruce Greens: My Verdict

Superfood Greens Power Drink may be a good product, and it sure seems to be based on the customer reviews we have available.

But it’s simply too pricey given the lack of disclosure.

Supergreen Tonik and an AG1 alternative — they’re both more affordable and more transparent than this one.

I compare two popular superfood supplements Athletic Greens AG1 vs Ka'Chava. Just what are the benefits and drawbacks of these brands?

Formerly known as Athletic Greens, AG1 is the most popular greens powder on the market today. (It’s also the first one that I ever tried!) Replete with 75 whole-food-based ingredients, AG1 is said to be great for your energy levels, athletic performance, and immunity.

Ka'Chava, on the other hand, is one of the most original and popular “superfood meals,” — and it also contains a hefty serving of greens. Ka’Chava is similar to AG1 because it makes big claims and has built an even bigger fan base.

In this comparison review, we’ll examine how both products stack up against their brands’ claims…and against each other.

powder supplements

What to Look for In Greens Powders

Before getting right into it, we should briefly overview what greens powders are all about.

Their foremost benefit is probably their ability to provide better-balanced nutrition.

Not everyone has the time to prepare a 20+ ingredient fruit and veggie smoothie every day, but almost everyone can manage to mix a greens powder into their morning lemon water.

Greens powders concentrate the power of plants into a radically more convenient formula.

That means they make filling out your nutrient intake profile easy, particularly regarding hard-to-get nutrients. Greens powders can also balance your diet’s pH, reduce your inflammatory load, provide easily-absorbed cellular energy, and more.(Source)

As good as greens powders are in theory, there’s one major problem with how most major brands put them into practice.

Most greens powders on the market today place their ingredients into proprietary blends, making it hard to ascertain exactly how much spirulina, chlorella, wheatgrass, etc., you’re getting. You’ll read more about ingredient transparency in the sections that follow…

I’ve covered the superfood powders before. I’ve even covered the best greens powders for increasing your protein intake.

But in this comparison review, we’ll dive deep into the similarities, differences, pros, cons, etc. of just two: AG1 and Ka’Chava.

Here are the details.

What is AG1?

Athletic Greens AG1 Pouch

AG1 greens is an all-in-one greens powder that’s hugely popular among its customers

AG1 isn’t just a two-in-one, three-in-one, or even 5-in-one product. It contains nine synergistic blends containing 75 ingredients in total!

AG1’s top proponents include elite athletes, busy executives, and everyday health enthusiasts. AG1 claims to deliver the equivalent of 12 servings of vegetables in each scoop.

Athletic Greens claim on their website:

AG1 utilizes vitamins, minerals, prebiotics and probiotics, digestive enzymes, adaptogens, and well-researched plant extracts to encourage a daily health ritual supporting our health foundations.

Pros

  • Diverse ingredients
  • Pleasantly sweet taste
  • Vegan and cruelty-free

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Relies heavily on proprietary blends
  • The probiotics featured are unproven

What is Ka’Chava?

Ka’Chava pouch

Ka’Chava is an almost artfully designed product backed by an established, eduction-focused brand.

Looking at the Ka’Chava website, you’ll see fit, healthy, smiling people everywhere.

Presumably, these people are as healthy and happy as they are because they’re taking Ka’Chava!

I like how well the brand explains the benefits of its product (and its product’s many ingredients).

You can find several Kachava reviews online. You can get my thoughts on this brand reading mine.

Pros

  • Diverse ingredients
  • Popular chocolate taste
  • Lots of organic ingredients
  • Vegan, gluten-free, cruelty-free, etc

Cons

  • Relies completely on propriety blends
  • Ridiculously expensive, particularly on Amazon
  • Inconsistent shipping times

AG1 vs. Ka’Chava: Ingredients Overview

Reader, be warned: a lot is going on in this section.

But AG1 and Ka’Chava have lots of ingredients. So many ingredients per small serving are likely some of these ingredients aren’t present in large enough quantities to be truly effective.

Here are the details.

AG1 Ingredients List

As I said above, AG1 has 75 ingredients spanning 9 key categories.

On the plus side, we know exactly how many vitamins and minerals Athletic Greens contains 700% of your RDV for vitamin C and 300% of your RDV for vitamin E.

It’s also high in zinc, magnesium, and other key nutrients.

In other good news, AG1 is NSF Certified for Sport® and manufactured in a TGA-registered NSF Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) Registered facility in New Zealand. Every pack of AG1 is 100% traceable.

Now for some less-than-good news.

Like many other greens powders, AG1's ingredients exist in proprietary blends.

For example, we don’t know exactly how much Reishi Mushroom powder is in the “Digestive Enzyme & Super Mushroom Complex,” because only the full Complex’s quantity is listed.

Based on the available data points, there probably needs to be ten times more Reishi in AG1’s formula for it to have measurable benefits.(Source)

Ka’Chava Ingredients List

Ka’Chava formula has nearly as many ingredients as Athletic Greens, stopping the clock with 70.

Among the highlights are ‘super’ greens, fruit powders, protein, probiotics, various enzymes, and adaptogens.

Unfortunately, every single active ingredient in Ka’Chava exists within a proprietary blend.

That means we can’t know exactly how much of anything is in Ka’Chava.

These mysterious blends include:

  • A Plant-Based Protein Blend (27.75 grams)
  • An Omega EFA / Fiber Blend (9.02 grams)
  • An Antioxidant / Super-Fruit Blend (6.1 grams)
  • An Adaptogen Herb Blend (1,050 mg)
  • A Probiotic / Prebiotic Blend (50mg)
  • A Digestive / Enzyme Blend (50mg)

On the bright side, Ka’Chava is cruelty-free, dairy-free, soy-free, gluten-free, and free from artificial ingredients.

28 of its 70 ingredients are certified organic.

Here is the Ka'Chava supplement label:

Ka'Chava Ingredients list

AG1 vs. Ka’Chava: Top Benefits

AG1 Greens and Ka'Chava both make some pretty substantial claims about what their products can do.

Let’s take a look at each brand one by one.

AG1 Top Benefits

Many of the ingredients in Athletic Greens will be difficult to consume when eating ‘normally.’

AG1’s ability to round out nutritional gaps means its users will probably experience health benefits.

According to the brand itself, the possibilities include:

  • Increased cellular energy
  • Improved antioxidant status
  • Proper hormonal and brain function
  • Digestive health and immune support
  • Helping your body adapt to stressful situations

Ka’Chava Top Benefits

Remember from this review’s intro that Ka’Chava isn’t just a greens powder.

It’s a superfood blend!

That gives it an even wider range of (potential) health benefits than you might think.

Ka’Chava may:

  • Boost the immune system
  • Increase energy levels
  • Aid digestion
  • Reduce bloating
  • Aid with weight management
  • Boost the metabolism
  • Improve hair, skin, and nails
  • Support muscle growth
  • Increase the speed of muscle recovery
  • Boost mood
  • Increase focus
  • Reduce anxiety

This all sounds great…until one stops considering that none of these benefits can be scientifically verified without more transparent ingredient lists.

Many Ka-Chava users do report experiencing these things, though.

AG1 vs. Ka’Chava: How Do They Taste?

The taste tends to be hit-or-miss regarding greens-containing supplements; these two are no exception.

AG1 Taste

Most people, myself included, feel that AG1 tastes pretty good.

It doesn’t have some other greens powders' grassy flavor or chalky consistency.

But that doesn’t mean everybody likes it. Some customer reviews describe artificial aftertaste.

One review went so far as to say AG1 tasted like it contained “lawn clippings thrown in.”

Related: Best tasting greens supplements

Ka’Chava Taste

Ka’Chava is available in two flavors: chocolate and vanilla.

Both tastes are popular, with the chocolate option seemingly taking the cake.

Some customers aren’t so enthusiastic about the formula’s sweetness, however.

AG1 vs. Ka’Chava: Are They Reasonably Priced?

This is one area where both AG1 and Ka’Chava seem to miss the mark.

While we understand that greens powders can be pricey to manufacture, there’s a fine line between healthy profit margins and price gouging.

AG1 Pricing and Refund Policy

AG1 is one of the most expensive products of its kind.

A single pack contains $99 — that’s $3.30 per serving.

Subscribing brings the price down to a slightly more manageable $2.63, but AG1 is nonetheless quite expensive.

SHOP AG1

Ka’Chava Pricing and Refund Policy

Ka’Chava is even more expensive, but then again, it’s more than a mere greens powder.

Each 15-serving pack costs $69.95 — that’s $4.67 per serving! Subscribing brings the price down to $4.00 per serving.

SHOP KA'CHAVA

What Customers Say About AG1 and Ka’Chava

AG1 Top Reviews

AGI has over 14,000 reviews on its website. The average reviewer gives AG1 a relatively high 4.5 stars.

One busy customer loves the convenience factor:

“I’m an ER nurse and working a lot these days due to RN shortages. I love AG1 and feel like I can get most of my nutrients by drinking this every day! Especially when we are too busy to eat.”

AG1 also has its fair share of 1-star reviews, however, many of them question the exorbitantly high price.

Ka’Chava Top Reviews

Ka’Chava is incredibly popular on Amazon, where it has well over 4,000 Amazon reviews. 72% of the reviews are 5-star, and the average review is 4.5 out of 5.

For some reason, Ka’Chava’s Amazon price is $147.95 per pack right now.

Even if each pack contained the 15 meals Ka’Chava claims — which, calorie-wise, it definitely does not — this pricing is ridiculous.

“According to my math, these are $7.40/serving,” one reviewer says. “It’d have to cure my cancer at that price.”

It appears that supply chain issues may be impacting Ka’Chava’s cost and shipping times.

Customers that bought Ka’Chava before these problems began seemed to think its price was more than worth it.

Athletic Greens AG1 vs Ka’Chava: My Verdict

In general, I’m a fan of Athletic Greens.

The product’s taste, transparency, and affordability are all decent.

I’m much less impressed by Ka’Chava, despite the solid first impressions this brand’s website gives.

Ka-Chava needs improvement regarding transparent labeling…and it’s become extremely expensive.

That’s not a combo that makes me want to pull out my wallet.

A better option than both AG1 and Ka’Chava — at least from the perspective of brand transparency — would be the Supergreen Tonik I created.

Beyond Greens is a super-popular greens powder made by the holistic wellness brand Live Conscious. Supergreen Tonik, on the other hand, is a newer greens powder whose diversity and transparency seem to set it apart.

So… which greens powder is better — or at least the better choice for you?

With so many seemingly great choices available on today’s market, it can be challenging to confidently select a greens powder.

That’s where I come in.

As a devoted biohacker and chronic supplement user, I have pretty lofty standards for any product I take.

In this comparison, we’ll dive deep into each option's ingredients, benefits, pricing, and pros and cons (and much more).

Let’s see how each product fairs.

green powders table

Greens products 101

First, though, let’s look at what the goal of greens powders is in the first place.

Simply put, greens powders exist to make well-rounded nutrition simple. Not everyone reading this has the time to source, prepare, and juice copious amounts of fruits, veggies, bitters, and/or herbals.

Most of you probably don’t!

Greens powders concentrate all of these plant-powered nutrients (and many times more) in a ready-to-use format that you can mix into smoothies or other drinks. They essentially place your nutrient intake on autopilot mode.

Especially if you pair your greens or reds powder to use with an already-healthy diet.

There’s one major issue with many of today’s supplements, though, and it doesn’t have to do with the powders themselves as much as it does their labeling.

Many brands don’t disclose the exact amount of their products’ key ingredients. These brands hide their exact mixes by grouping ingredients into proprietary blends.

It’s quite rare to see a green powder that fully discloses the precise amount of each ingredient.

In addition to ingredient transparency, here are a few other factors to consider before you buy:

  • Transparency: Does the company list out every one of its ingredients — including each ingredient’s specific dosage?
  • Serving size: Does the product contain enough of its “active ingredients” to actually confer that ingredient’s benefits?
  • Price points: Is the product reasonably affordable while still working well enough to be cost-effective?
  • Refund policy: Does the brand that makes the product offer a confidence-boosting money-back guarantee?
  • Trust: Does the company have good reviews and a longstanding, established reputation?

What is Supergreen Tonik?

Supergreen Tonik flavors

Supergreen Tonik is similar to several other greens powders you’ll find on the retail market today, with three important distinctions:

  • It’s made by a brand that specializes in greens.
  • It contains both greens and nootropics ingredients.
  • It fully discloses the exact amount of each of its key ingredients.

The Company Behind Supergreen Tonik

Full disclosure: the company behind Supergreen Tonik is yours truly — me!

I created Supergreen Tonik to fill a much-needed void in the supplement industry.

Virtually no greens powders fully disclose all of their key ingredients… until now.

My motives for making Supergreen Tonik were clear from the start.

The ultimate goal was to create a drink to help ordinary people make the absolute most out of their health.

And why stop at ‘just’ greens?

I decided to incorporate nootropics and immunity-boosters into my greens powder, too, in order to provide a deeper level of nutritional support.

In addition to being transparent and effective, this product also had to taste good enough for my wife and I to drink daily.

Pros

  • Made by a specialized brand to address the drawbacks of other greens products
  • Complete transparency with ALL ingredients
  • Contains greens and nootropics
  • Incredible refund policy

Cons

  • Somewhat pricey, much cheaper with bundles

Beyond Greens is a popular greens powder product that combines all the regular greens with an unusual collection of adaptogenic herbs and mushrooms.

The Company Behind Beyond Greens

Live Conscious (formerly LiveWell) is the holistic nutrition company behind Beyond Greens. The brand has a decidedly upbeat, spiritual vibe. They even have their own mantra: “My mind is sharp, my body healthy, my spirit at ease.”

You’d be hardpressed to find many other brands that can say the same.

Beyond Greens is one of the most popular products that Live Conscious creates. It’s fairly easy to see why.

The brand calls Beyond Greens “a multivitamin, reimagined, focusing on improving multiple areas of your health that will elicit positive change throughout the whole body.”

Pros

  • Complete ingredient transparency
  • Diverse, creative ingredients mix
  • Fairly affordable

Cons

  • Small serving sizes
  • Underdosed ingredients

Supergreen Tonik vs. Beyond Greens: Ingredients

Were happy to report that both Suprgreen Tonik and Beyond Greens get winning grades when disclosing their ingredients lists, though these nutrients vary greatly.

Let’s take a closer look.

Supergreen Tonik Ingredients

Supergreen Tonik is essentially a three-in-one greens product. Below are the ingredients contained in all three of these blends:

Organic Greens Blend (7,500mg)

Nootropic Blend (1,800mg)

Immune Blend (1,000mg)

  • Dandelion leaf extract
  • Garlic Extract
  • Olive leaf extract

What's great to see in the Supergreen Tonik formula is the inclusion of both Rhodiola and Ashwagandha together in the right dosages!

Here is the Supergreen Tonik supplement label:

Supergreen Tonik full disclosure label

Beyond Greens Ingredients

Beyond Greens also contains quite an impressive blend of nutrients.

True to its name, it contains Mushrooms, Echinacea, and Rhodiola — above and beyond the greens themselves.

Here are the key ones:

  • Rhodiola rosea
  • Matcha powder
  • Organic Reishi Mushroom
  • Organic Cordyceps militaris
  • Organic Turkey Tail Mushroom
  • Organic Lion's Mane Mushroom
  • Chlorella
  • Echinacea purpurea
  • Milk Thistle
  • LactoSpore®

  • XOS (Xylo-oligosaccharides

It's good to see that Beyond Greens is:

  • Soy-free
  • Gluten-free
  • Dairy-free
  • Non-GMO
  • Keto-friendly
  • Paleo-friendly
  • Vegan-friendly

The only drawback to Beyond Greens’ ingredients is their quantity.

Each serving of Beyond Greens weighs just 3.7 grams, which may not leave enough room for each key ingredient to be present at its minimum effective dose.

Some of the ingredients listed above come in at only 25 milligrams!

Supergreen Tonik vs. Beyond Greens: Taste

Supergreen Tonik

There are two flavors to choose from with Supergreen Tonik; Mint or Berry. Personally, I prefer the pleasant minty taste that most customers seem to enjoy.

If you enjoy mixing your greens with shakes or smoothies, then the Berry flavor may be a better choice.

Beyond Greens

Beyond Greens tastes like a slightly sweet version of matcha tea, probably thanks to its ‘shroomy ingredients.

If you like matcha tea, you’ll probably love it — if you don’t, you probably won’t.

Supergreen Tonik vs. Beyond Greens: Cost

Supplements can get pricey fast, and green powders tend to cost more than other types of supplements.

Let’s see how much Supergreen Tonik and Beyond Greens will cost you per day and per month.

Supergreen Tonik

Supergreen Tonik costs $87 per tub, and each tub contains 30 servings.

That comes out to $2.90 per day, or $87 per month.

Buying a “saver” bundle brings the price down to just $2.17 per day, or $65 per month.

Supergreen Tonik’s price is well compensated for with an exceptional refund policy.

Unsatisfied customers have a full year to return their product if they’re unhappy with it!

This is pretty unheard of in the supplements world.

Beyond Greens

Beyond Greens costs $39.99 per pouch, which works out to $1.33 per day.

Subscribing to Beyond Greens allows you to save a whopping 38%, bringing your price down to $24.80 per pouch.

The price is low but the supplement is certainly under-dosed!

These figures are super affordable — until you consider that Beyond Greens uses very small serving sizes.

Supergreen Tonik vs. Beyond Greens: What Customers Say

Supergreen Tonik

Supergreen Tonik is a relatively new product, which means it doesn’t have as many reviews as more established brands.

What we do have, though, is pretty darn positive.

“I drink SGT every day, I have so much more energy and greater mental clarity. I am really confident every day knowing I get the right nutrition for me!”

Another customer loves the taste — a rarity when dealing with greens powders:

“I absolutely love SuperGreen TONIK! Tastes great and saves me hours of juicing in the morning — 30 seconds and I'm done. I have so much more energy and it helps me be super productive to drink this everyday.”

Beyond Greens

Beyond Greens has 169+ reviews on Amazon, with an average rating of 4.4 stars each.

One customer was surprised by the small serving sizes — but nonetheless loved the product:

“I expected a larger bag, but once you mix your first batch, you really notice how ultra condensed this stuff is. […] As far as the nutritional side, just like with all super green food mixes, healthy eating, in general, should also be in tandem with supplements like this. Then you WILL notice the benefits! This is by far my favorite. Noticeable improvement in just over a week with gut health, hydration, energy, and mental clarity. […] This mix is great if you are already eating healthy and looking for something to take you further.”

Supergreen Tonik vs. Beyond Greens: Where They Rank

If you can afford the higher price, we recommend SuperGreen Tonik as the best choice.

This greens powder sets itself apart by containing fully quantified, more-than-adequate amounts of each and every one of its active ingredients.

However, if you’re on a tight budget, consider purchasing Beyond Greens or a better alternative.

This product’s approachable price makes it great for customers who are new to greens and hoping to try them out without making a hefty investment.

Mantra Labs Greens is marketed as a delicious organic all-in-one health boost to your daily wellness routine. Does it deliver a super green punch though?

With a formula that is different from greens powders I have seen, Manta Greens ditches the adaptogens and opts for a hefty dose of prebiotic fibers.

If you're thinking of buying the Mantra Labs super greens powder then check out my review. I reveal the pros and cons of this formula and what the benefits could be.

Mantra Labs Super Greens

What is Mantra Labs Greens?

Mantra Greens is an organic superfood vegetable & fruit blend packed with a large serving of prebiotic fibers.

In fact, I have not seen this amount of prebiotic fiber in a greens formula before (50% of the formula). More than another other greens powders I have reviewed.

But wait a minute, where are the adaptogens?

I was surprised to see adaptogenic herbs were missing in this formula.

The benefits of Mantra Labs Greens claim to be better energy, immune sport, healthy gut, mood, and overall health.

The good news for anyone looking for a greens for sport, Mantra Lab Greens is “informed sport” accredited.

Background on Mantra Labs

Mantra Labs was co-founded by Paul Janowitz and Jared Padalecki in 2020. They started the supplement company after struggling to find nutritional supplements they craved and met their high standards.

The company sells powder supplements that mix easily with your beverage or smoothie of choice as well as a range of apparel.

Their brands look professional and very colorful, they reminded a little of Organifi's supplements, especially their “shop rise”, “shop go”, and “shop rise” range.

They also produce Mantra Labs Hydrate which looks to be a contender for my no sugar electrolyte powder (I will be reviewing this soon).

Mantra Labs supplements

Mantra Labs Greens Ingredients

Each serving of Mantra Greens contains 16.4 grams of ingredients.

This is very generous as most powdered greens are between 5-12 grams per serving. Those greens with protein have larger serving sizes of 15-35 grams.

I am disappointed there are NO adaptogens in the formula.

Many effective greens powders contain ashwagandha and rhodiola as the benefits of these adaptogens are too good to ignore (well apart from Mantra Labs!).

Here is the complete list of 25 Mantra Labs Greens ingredients:

  • Organic Prebiotic Gut fiber blend (8 grams): – Organic oat fiber, acacia gum, and Jerusalem artichoke inulin
  • Organic whole food greens blend (6.35 grams): – Organic wheat grass, organic spirulina, organic kale, organic broccoli, organic spinach, organic barley grass
  • Organic Super Fruit blend (500mg) – Organic apple, organic banana, organic blueberry, organic raspberry, organic strawberry, organic elderberry, organic acai, organic pomegranate, organic goji, organic grape, organic papaya, organic cherry, organic bilberry, organic pineapple, organic blackcurrent, organic maqui berry

The Mantra Labs super greens formula is vegan, paleo, keto, gluten-free, soy-free, and sugar-free.

Can Barley Grass really be gluten free?

Although labeled as “gluten-free” I am not sure if including barley-grass and wheat-grass means it technically qualifies as gluten-free.

The FDA say;

Barley grass can be used as an ingredient in health supplements and still be considered gluten-free as long as the final product contains less than 20 ppm of gluten

How does Mantra Labs Greens Taste?

You mix one packet into 12-24 fluid ounces of cold water and mix.

The flavor is mixed berry and most people seem to cope with the taste okay, although as with any powder supplement for some it can be difficult to drink.

One amazon customer thought it tasted rather bitter with an earthy taste.

Side Effects

There are unlikely to be any side effects from drinking greens.

The formula does contain a higher dose of prebiotic ingredients that may cause temporary bloating.

If you have any pre-existing medical conditions and/or taking prescription medication then you should always consult a medical doctor before taking any supplement.

Does Mantra Labs Greens Work?

The effectiveness of any greens supplements, or any supplement for that matter, is down to the ingredients and also importantly their weights in each serving.

As I have found in 97% of the supplements I have reviewed, the Mantra Labs super greens label shows the formula using proprietary blends.

I go into detail about why I dislike supplement proprietary blends in my article, but essentially it means we don't know the ingredient amounts and so it's unclear if they are in the correct dosages to work.

This means that although the supplement is marketed as “perfectly dosed” it's impossible to know for sure.

I guess we just have to take Mantra Labs' word.

…although the supplement is marketed as “perfectly dosed” it's impossible to know for sure because the individual ingredients are not disclosed.

The formula is made up of three main proprietary blends, the biggest one being the fiber blend that surprisingly makes up 50% of the formula.

Consisting of three fibers in the form of oat fiber, acacia gum, and Jerusalem artichoke inulin – the most fiber I have seen in any supplement I have reviewed.

It's worth noting that you would still get much more fiber from eating real fruit and vegetables though (one medium-sized apple contains 4.4 grams of fiber USDA).

jerusalem artichoke

The second biggest is the “Organic Whole food Super Greens + Alkalizing and Algae blend” which consists of organic alkalizing wheat grass, barley grass, and spirulina blend.

I am a huge advocate of spirulina (and the reason I use 2 grams of it in my greens formula), and depending on what time of day you take Spirulina you can experience a host of health benefits when consuming at least 1-3 grams per day.

Although we don't know for sure, it's likely that there is a good amount of greens in this formula to provide the claimed benefits.

I do disagree with the claim of being “alkalizing” though as there is no evidence to suggest what you eat can affect the alkalinity of the body, especially boosting alkalinity of body ph.

Lastly, the “Super Fruit Blend” contains 16 fruits within a 500mg proprietary blend.

Many of these fruits have been proven to provide health benefits when consumed in sufficient amounts. Considering there are so many fruits in just 500mg I believe they will be in too few amounts to have much of a health impact.

Mantra Labs Greens Reviews

I checked out the feedback on Amazon to get an idea of what customers thoughts about Mantra Lab Greens.

Overall the feedback was good with an average rating of 4.3 out of 5.

This product works and keeps balanced in every aspect that it's supposed to work for. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.5 stars

The downside is the taste – way too sweet for me. The stevia-enhanced apple banana flavor is overpowering. Also, the price is steep. For daily use, Mantra is $80 per month. I am neutral on the individual packaging, there are 15 individual serving sachets in the larger bag. I use it at home, so it is a waste for me.3 stars

I had 20-30 ounces of smoothie that all tasted like this powder. Couldn't finish. If you're more comfortable with bitter earthy tastes (again, I admit I'm not a health nut) or have a weak sense of smell/taste, you could do these.1 star

Where to buy Mantra Labs Greens?

You can buy Mantra Greens from the official website and from Amazon.

Only Available in the US

Is It Worth The Price?

You can buy Mantra Greens in either a 15-count bag or in a 30-serving tub.

A month's supply of Mantra Labs Greens costs $39.99 for one-off purchases (15-day supply) or $59.95 for the tub (30-day supply) but you can save a hefty 25% by using the subscription option.

There is the option to have your auto-shipped delivery every 4, 6, or 8 weeks, depending on how frequently you use your order.

The cost of this greens supplement is affordable although is not as cheap as you first think.

To get a full month's supply of Mantra Greens ensure you opt for the 30-servings pack at $59.95.

Each packet of Mantra Greens contains 15 single-serving packets and so taken once per day will only last 15 days. This was disappointing because it means you will need to buy two packets to last one month – so the 30-day tub is in my opinion a better option.

If you sign up for their mailing list on their website you get 20% off your first order

The Bottom Line

When first looking at Mantra Labs Super Greens it was appealing for the low-cost and relatively large serving size.

However, when you realize that each tub/pouch only contains a 15-day supply and that the formula is made up of 50% fiber – Mantra Greens is not necessarily a good option!

If you're interested in buying Mantra Greens then I would go for the better value 30-day supply tub.

Whilst there are the usual super greens in the formula, it's missing adaptogens that you often see in great greens powders.

When considering the other greens powders available, I would be inclined to look elsewhere unless you take other Mantra Lab supplements or are particularly keen to get a big dose of prebiotic fibers.

You have seen two great greens powders, Bulletproof Greens and Opti-Greens 50. How do these two industry-leading Greens powders compare?

Opti-Greens 50 is a greens powder that promises the benefits of a carefully curated 50-green blend.

Bulletproof Greens, conversely, is a simpler product made by entrepreneurial biohacking pioneer Dave Asprey and his Bulletproof Brand.

With so many choices available, having confidence when selecting a Greens powder can be challenging. That’s where I come in. As an avid supplement user and biohacker, I have high standards for any products I choose.

In this comparison of Bulletproof Greens vs Opti-Greens 50, we’ll dive deep into each option's ingredients, benefits, pricing, and pros and cons (and much more). Let’s see how each product fairs.

Greens Products 101

Greens powders aim to make complete nutrition easy. Not everyone has the time or resources to prepare and eat copious amounts of fruits and veggies each day.

Greens powders take the top benefits of said fruits and veggies and place them into an oh-so-convenient form. They’re a great supplement for anyone who needs to place their micronutrient intake on autopilot.

But not all green powder supplements are created equal. More than a few companies use clever marketing speak to compensate for inadequacies in their products. It’s actually pretty rare to find a green powder that fully discloses the precise amount of each ingredient present in the product.

Here are a few things to ask yourself before you buy.

  • Ingredients list: Does the company list out every one of its ingredients — including each ingredient’s dosage?
  • Serving sizes: Does the product contain enough of its “active ingredients” actually to make a difference?
  • Pricing: Is the product reasonably affordable while working well enough to be cost-effective?
  • Refunds: does the product have a money-back guarantee?
  • Reputation: Does the company have good reviews and an established reputation?

What is Bulletproof Greens?

Bulletproof Greens + shaker in my kitchen

Bulletproof Greens is like a lot of the other greens powders you’ll see on today’s retail market, with two exceptions:

  • It’s made by a well-established health and wellness company, not a brand that specializes in greens.
  • It contains nootropics and greens (much like the similar to Supergreen Tonik)

The company behind Bulletproof

Bulletproof Greens is the lovechild of Dave Asprey, a biohacker who turned around his health by following the Bulletproof diet. Asprey also coined the idea of Bulletproof coffee and popularized practices like cryotherapy and intermittent fasting.

Fast forward to today and Dave is still sharing valuable information to help people get the type of results he’s gotten. Suffice to say that we’re big fans of what Bulletproof is doing. That being said, we’re not as much of a fan of their green powder. Keep reading to learn why.

Pros

  • Produced by a top-notch supplement company
  • Affordable and flexible ordering options
  • Contains greens and nootropics
  • 30-day money-back guarantee

Cons

  • Very small serving size
  • Unclear ingredient amounts

What is Opti-Greens 50?

Opti-Greens is made by a fast-growing, fairly established company called 1st Phorm. On first impression, the brand looks trustworthy, professional, and dedicated to what they do.

Go to their website and you’ll see a pretty immersive video delving into the benefits of Opti-Greens.

Opti-Greens 50 pouch

The company behind Opti-Greens

The company behind Opti-Greens, 1st Phorm, has been around since 2006. That’s like eons in terms of the supplement market. In addition to making supplements for health, wellness, and body composition, they also carry all sorts of athletic apparel. It’s safe to say that 1st Phorm is more than just another supplement brand — they’re a lifestyle brand.

And a pretty popular one at that. 1st Phorm is endorsed by IFBB Pro Andre Adams, trainer Rachel Nicole, and more than a few CrossFit influencers. All in all, the founder Andy Frisella has built up a $175 million company from scratch. Pretty impressive!

1st Phorm also makes red powders — read our review of Opti-Reds 50 here.

PROS

  • Trusted by thousands and thousands of customers
  • 110% refund policy
  • Diverse ingredients

CONS

  • Somewhat expensive
  • Proprietary blend

Bulletproof Greens vs Opti-Greens 50 Benefits

Green powders of all sorts are known for their antioxidant, alkalizing, and anti-inflammatory effects. (source) A good number of green powders even contain vitamin D.

Bulletproof Greens

Bulletproof claims that its namesake green powder has both antioxidant and nootropic properties. While it does contain some nootropics, we’re not as convinced. It may not have large enough doses of these nootropic ingredients to have a noticeable effect.

(Check out our comparison of Bulletproof Greens and Supergreen Tonik here.)

Opti-Greens 50

Opti-Greens also makes some fairly lofty marketing claims. While the ingredients in Opti-Greens do indeed have impressive benefits, it’s tough to tell whether or not this green powder is the equivalent of 2 ounces of freshly juiced greens as 1st Phorm claims.

Bulletproof Greens vs Opti-Greens 50 Ingredients

Bulletproof Greens

Bulletproof Greens may come in a tiny package (each serving size is only 7.9 grams), but the brand sure manages to pack a lot into there. Each pack contains four different proprietary blends, as well as added vitamins and minerals:

  • A fruit + veggie blend
  • A mushroom + superfood blend
  • A nootropic blend
  • A digestive blend

Opti-Greens 50

True to its name, Opti-Greens 50 contains precisely 50 ingredients. 1st Phorm says these ingredients are processed at low enough temperatures to maximize their bioavailability.

Another plus: most of these 50 ingredients are organic, even though Opti-Greens itself isn’t a certified organic product.

Bulletproof Greens vs Opti-Greens 50 Taste

It’s pretty common knowledge that greens powders aren’t always the greatest tasting. Some people mix them into smoothies (or even orange juice) to try to mask the flavor. But how do Bulletproof and Opti-Greens fare? Here’s a closer look.

Bulletproof Greens

Bulletproof uses stevia to hide the bitter taste that some greens naturally have. If you don’t like the intense sweetness of stevia, this product may not be a good choice!

Opti-Greens 50

Opti-Greens has a berry flavor that masks some of the earthiness and bitterness. Some people love it…others, not so much.

Bulletproof Greens vs Opti-Greens 50 Cost

Green powders typically cost more than other types of supplements. Let’s see how much Bulletproof Greens and Opti-Greens will run you.

Bulletproof Greens

Bulletproof Greens is one of the more affordable greens powders on the market. A jar costs anywhere from 35 to 45 dollars. (Get a monthly subscription and you’ll have access to the lower price point.)

You can also order Bulletproof Greens in the form of individual packets, which are perfect for those on the go.

Bulletproof also offers an unconditional 30-day-money-back guarantee on their greens powders, just in case you turn out to dislike them.

Opti-Greens 50

Opti-Greens 50 costs $64.99 for a 30-day supply. That’s a little pricey, but on the bright side, 1st Phorm’s return policy goes above and beyond. They offer a 110% money-back guarantee if you’re unhappy with their greens powder for any reason — that’s a full refund plus 10%.

Bulletproof Greens vs Opti-Greens 50: What Do Customers Say?

Both Bulletproof Greens and Opti-Greens have a devoted customer base. That doesn’t mean everyone likes them, however…

What customers say about Bulletproof Greens

As of June 2022, Bulletproof Greens has 111 reviews on Amazon. All in all, these come out to an average rating of 4.3/5.

Most people who take the time actually to write a review seem surprisingly enthusiastic.

I don’t usually write reviews, but this one is worth it,

One customer said.

I feel like I’ve tried every greens product available on Amazon […] THIS ONE IS ACTUALLY GOOD!

What customers say about Opti-Greens 50

Opti-Greens has an incredible 12,580 reviews on their website, most of them very positive.

I’m a fan of the taste compared to other similar products,

Explains a reviewer named Josaih.

I also already feel better knowing that I’m getting my greens in when I don’t go for that salad. I’m definitely going to order again.

Bulletproof Greens vs. Opti-Greens: where they rank

Neither Bulletproof Greens nor Opti-Greens 50 are ideal for everyone, and that’s okay.

If you can afford it, we’d recommend Opti-Greens as the best choice. It’s loved by thousands of loyal customers for a reason! All in all, we’re pretty impressed by what 1st Phorm has done with Opti-Greens.

If you’re on a lower budget or looking for the most convenient product possible, however, then Bulletproof’s product may be a better choice.

AG1 (formerly known as Athletic Greens) is one of the oldest and most popular greens powder supplements. Bulletproof Greens, on the other hand, is one of the newest supplements offered by biohacking pioneer Dave Asprey.

How do these two popular greens powders compare?

Keep reading to learn whether or not AG1 and Bulletproof Greens are the real deal. This review will be combining things we’ve gone over in previous AG1 reviews with new info about both brands! (We’ll give you a hint: both green powders have pros and cons).

What is AG1?

Athletic Greens (AG1) Pouch

Short for Athletic Greens, AG1 is one of the most established, comprehensive greens supplements available today. It’s packed with a whopping 75 whole-food ingredients. The brand claims a single serving of AG1 has the same antioxidant content as 12 servings of vegetables.

Athletic Greens claims its namesake green powder offers users four distinctive types of health benefits:

  • Improved energy levels
  • Faster recovery from exercise
  • Improved immunity
  • Improved digestion

Are these claims true? We’ll take a closer look at them when we examine Athletic Greens' full ingredients list.

PROS

  • Contains 75 ingredients, including probiotics
  • Tastes great in water or smoothies
  • Vegan friendly
  • Available in pouches or sachets

CONS

  • Expensive: $79 to $99 per month + shipping costs
  • Proprietary blend, no full disclosure of ingredient amounts
  • Probiotics can be unstable in these types of formulas

How does AG1 compare to other greens supplements?

What is Bulletproof Greens?

Bulletproof Greens + shaker in my kitchen

At first glance, Bulletproof Greens bears a strong resemblance to many of the other greens powders available on today’s market.

But there’s a twist: this one also contains nootropics. Not many other greens powders can claim that besides my own Supergreen Tonik!

Bulletproof Greens is the creation of Dave Asprey, the biohacker-turned-entrepreneur who founded Bulletproof. Asprey has a proven track record of creating novel supplements and health products — he’s the creator of Bulletproof coffee.

While we’re a huge fan of Bulletproof and its ideals, we weren’t overly impressed with Bulletproof Greens.

Why not? We’ll explain our perspective in the ingredients section later on.

Pros

  • 35 ingredients, including 2 nootropics
  • Brand has great reputation
  • Cost effective
  • 30-day money-back guarantee

Cons

  • Proprietary blends
  • Likely some under-dosed ingredients

AG1 vs. Bulletproof Greens Benefits

AG1 and Bulletproof Greens both possess quite a set of potential health benefits. Let’s take a closer look.

AG1 / Athletic Greens

One of the upsides of AG1 is that it contains a huge variety of nutrients, including vitamin D, anti-inflammatory agents, and antioxidants. AG’s alkaline pH means it may help preserve your bone health over the long run. (source) AG1 also contains plenty of pigment-based antioxidants, like chlorophyll, that may slow down aging and improve athletic recovery. (source)

Bulletproof Greens

Bulletproof Greens compares with Supergreen Tonik and other green powders when it comes to health benefits. Like AG1, it’s anti-oxidation and claims to be alkalizing.

Bulletproof also claims that their greens powder has nootropic properties, though it may not contain quite enough of the nootropic ingredients to have a tangible effect.

AG1 vs. Bulletproof Greens Ingredients

AGI contains an incredible variety of plant-powered ingredients, while Bulletproof Greens takes the unusual step of combining greens and nootropics. Let’s take a close look.

AG1

AG1 contains four major categories of ingredients:

  • Alkaline superfoods
  • Nutrient-dense herbs/extracts
  • Enzymes and roots
  • Probiotics

Athletic Greens AG1 Label

Bulletproof Greens

Bulletproof Greens has a smaller serving size than most other greens brands. While AG1’s serving size is 12 grams, Bulletproof Greens’ is only 7.9.

But they sure do manage to throw a whole lot of good stuff into that small package. The highlights include the following:

  • A vegetables and fruit powder blend
  • A superfood and mushroom complex blend
  • A nootropics blend
  • A digestive aids blend
  • Extra vitamins and minerals

Athletic Greens is probably one of the better-tasting green powders around. It lacks the grassy taste or chalky tasty of some other brands. It’s easy on your digestion, too, even if you drink it on an empty stomach. All in all, AG1 is one of the best-tasting greens powder I’ve encountered so far.

Bulletproof Greens

Just like most other green powders, Bulletproof Greens taste best when mixed with cold water.

But not all customers say it tastes good. Some like the subtle pineapple flavor, while others hate the tangy stevia-mediated sweetness. Check out some of this product’s customer reviews to grasp what we mean. If you dislike stevia, then this product is probably not the right choice for you! Taste is one of those things that’s definitely subjective.

AG1 vs. Bulletproof Greens Cost

Which greens powder is more affordable? That’s an easy one! Below are the details.

AG1

AG1 may feature some truly super greens…but it also has a super-high price tag.

Each tub costs $99, which equates to $3.30/day if you take the recommended daily serving. Even if you get a discounted subscription, the price is still $2.63 per day. You’d be hard-pressed to find green powders much pricier than that!

Suffice to say that these greens are not for those on a tight budget.

Bulletproof Greens

A jar of Bulletproof Greens costs a much more reasonable $35-45. Better yet, a 20% discount is available if you opt for a monthly subscription. The subscription is super flexible, too: you can resupply every 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 6 weeks, 8 weeks, or 12 weeks. Even considering the tiny serving size, Bulletproof Greens are pretty cost-effective.

In other good news, Bulletproof offers a 30-day money-back guarantee on their Greens, so no worries if you don’t like the taste or effects.

You can also buy Bulletproof Greens in an ultra-convenient, pre-packaged format. What format? A box containing 15 individual packets. This version costs $27.95, or $22.95 if you subscribe. David Asprey was thinking of people as busy as himself when he designed this one!

Bulletproof Greens get an A+ for its pricing structure, flexible ordering, and convenient product formats.

AG1 vs. Bulletproof Greens: What Do Customers Say?

What customers say about AG1

As of June 2022, AG1 Greens has 2,979 reviews from customers. Most of them are positive, giving an average rating of 4.5/5 stars.

It seems like the 1-star reviewers are among the brand’s most vocal. Most of these reviewers are either a) upset at AG1’s price B) upset about customer service or C) concerned about the possibility of heavy metal contamination. Perhaps AG1 Greens could do a better job of assuaging the fears of this last group of customers!

What customers say about Bulletproof Greens

Bulletproof doesn’t have quite as many Amazon reviews as AG1, but don’t let that scare you off — it is a newer product, after all. Its 111 reviews average out at 4.3/5.

For whatever reason, these reviewers seem most enthusiastic when giving 5-star reviews (compared to the impassioned 1-star reviews we read on AG1’s page, at least). Among the many hyped headlines are phrases like these:

Best flavor of greens I've found thus far!

Best tasting greens I’ve tried

Actual Tasty Greens!

“I don’t usually write reviews,” this last headline’s full review reads, “but this one is worth it. I feel like I’ve tried every greens product available on Amazon, and they are all just unpalatable. I force myself to drink them for health reasons, but I hate it. THIS ONE IS ACTUALLY GOOD! Bit of sweetness, nice pineapple flavor, and you can’t taste the grassy notes like some of the others. Definitely recommend!”

All in all, AG1 clearly comes out on top in terms of customer reviews, despite the enthusiasm of some Bulletproof Greens buyers.

AG1 vs. Bulletproof Greens: Which is Better?

There’s no easy answer to this one. That’s because neither AG1 nor Bulletproof Greens are perfect for everybody.

And that’s alright — we’ll do our best to provide two different answers instead.

If you have an unlimited budget, AG1 is likely the better choice. It offers a larger serving size and a far more diverse set of ingredients than Bulletproof Greens.

If you’re on a tight budget (or just like saving money), however, then Bulletproof’s green powder is probably a better choice for you. Some of its ingredients may be underdosed, but that by no means entirely negates its health benefits.
