Arbonne Greens Balance review

Arbonne Greens Balance Review

I first heard about Arbonne when a friend of mine gave me a tub of Arbonne Greens balance to try. She used to promote it to her friends and family when living in Australia.

I know that a lot of people (especially in the US) are fans of the brand Arbonne and – for these customers – the brand seems to tick a lot of boxes. They can even promote it to make some money on the side.

With the stiff competition amongst Greens products on the market, I wanted to look into Arbonne's brand and see if this supplement sets itself apart from the crowd.

Arbonne is a long-established company with a polished marketing approach, they appear to have the credentials to be making and selling a winning greens supplement.

So I’d like to take a closer look at some Arbonne super greens formulations, such as the Arbonne Greens Balance and Arbonne Detox.

What is Arbonne Greens Balance?

‘The power to transform your life and the lives of others’ is a fairly appealing prospect and I can already see how people become loyal to this powerful brand. I won’t go into the full story as I’m only partially interested in the history behind the brand rather than the entire movement, but suffice to say I’m not 100% in agreement with the business model.

I go into a little more detail below, and I’m reluctant to distract from the main subject here (which is, following my greens powder research, intended to be a Greens Balance product review), but to make another point which I also find difficult to stomach – the range of products available through Arbonne is HUGE.

From ‘Mind health’, to ‘Energy Fizz sticks’, Fiber boost, and protein products, one could get truly lost in the virtual aisles of Arbonne products available on their website. They sell individual vitamin and mineral supplements, fitness and lifestyle products, rehydration blends, and products aimed at post-workout refueling.

There’s a supplement or product here for literally any situation, anybody and anywhere.

Background on Arbonne

The family story on their website spans generations. There’s even a family snap on the opening page to reiterate this. Way back in 1965 we learn that the founder, Petter Mork – a Norwegian – was already forming his ideas for what Arbonne would become.

This is just one of the powerful and compelling aspects of the company. People love heritage.

Their vision initially was all-around skincare, and this is one of their main product streams, however, they soon branched into diet and nutrition products. This area, as we are fast discovering, is a hot sell to people concerned with improving their nutrient intake, and fast. Arbonne products promise a lot in this area, and there is a vast range of products available.

Arbonne supplements

My main issue, in summary, is that the company is now based on a peer-selling (MLM – multi-level-marketing model) which I really don’t agree with. Their ‘healthy living inside and out’ program promotes to their customers the opportunity to become independent lifestyle consultants.

From a company perspective, with a little outlay, they get loyal customers and influencers in one. But I’ve done some research around this and am discovering that the scheme (often, and perhaps unfairly, in this case, labeled as pyramid-selling) ultimately benefits the company rather than the consultants.

As I said above, there has been plenty of research into companies that use this model to sell products, and I don’t want to revisit this research, but I instantly don’t want to like the products if they are coming from this stable.

Othe greens brands I have reviewed:

Arbonne Greens Balance Ingredients

The Arbonne Essentials Greens Balance blend is part of the Arbonne Essentials range. The tub says it is ‘Featuring a Greens Balance with fruit and vegetable concentrates’. It is also upfront about being a dietary supplement.

Vegan, soy-free, gluten-free, and all-natural. The ‘Arbonne Advantage’ is to use ‘Plant-powered, nutrient-rich products that are cleaner for better results, following a strict ingredient policy that is always gluten-free, vegan, and without GMO ingredients’.

Arbonne greens balance supplement facts

Well, this is all well and good but I can’t see how this stands out from the crowd. I’d rather they just told me how much of what is inside!

A scoop is 7.34g. The listing breaks the ingredients down into the following:

Arbonne proprietary blend of greens (3800mg)

Spirulina (Arthrospira platensis), Alfalfa Grass (Medicago sativa), Barley Grass (Hordeum vulgare), Wheat Grass (Triticum aestivum), Chlorella (Chlorella vulgaris), Spinach (Spinacia oleracea), Kale (Brassica oleracea acephala), Artichoke (Cynara scolymus), Broccoli (Brassica oleracea), Parsley (Petroselinum crispum).

The remainder of the blend is made up of ‘Arbonne proprietary blend of yellows.. reds.. blues and Omega-3 seed blend’. These are largely concentrated fruit and veggie powders mentioned on the front of the tin.

So, once again, I have come across a company that is producing a super greens powder but that is not being transparent with customers about the amounts of each ingredient being used.

Let me just take Spirulina as an example of why I would like to see more ingredient information included in the packaging. Sources agree that roughly 1-8g daily of Spirulina can be beneficial to health, however, so little is being included in a 3800mg proprietary blend (which makes up a tiny percentage of a 7g serving).

Yes, spirulina is nutrient-dense, but why use so little?

If the same is true of each of the ingredients in the greens blend alone then how tiny percentage of these powerful greens ingredients are actually present in this product?

I would really like to see companies producing more transparent ingredients lists, or perhaps even using more of the tangibly potent ingredients within their blends.

How Does Arbonne Greens Balance Taste?

I’m going to have to rely on reviews to answer this, but I actually found it quite difficult to find reviews of this product from the usual places. The Amazon store I visited didn’t have reviews of the exact product I’ve been looking at from Arbonne’s own website and I even did a little search on their own site for ‘Greens taste’ but with no results available.

I actually had to google Arbonne Greens taste in order to find a review. How strange.

One reviewer stated that it ‘added a bit of an earthy undertone [to my usual chocolate protein shake]’. Not unusual, greens tend to be a little earthy in their flavor.

I may be mistaken but I couldn’t see individual product reviews available on the product pages of the Arbonne site. This again seems to be a little lacking in honesty as I know that many companies find it beneficial to be open and transparent about customer feedback.

…greens powder blends and comes down to personal taste as to whether you will enjoy this flavor.

So, it remains to be seen whether a broad spectrum of customers find the taste to be agreeable or not.

The ingredients list does include cane sugar and stevia, so I assume that some of the vegetable flavors are potentially masked by this sweetness. This is common in greens powder blends and comes down to personal taste as to whether you will enjoy this flavor.

Side Effects

As with most nutritional and dietary supplements you have to be careful that you’re not allergic to any ingredients.

Similarly, it’s up to you to be aware that the first few times you consume greens powders you may suffer a small amount of digestional discomfort due to the content.

…to be aware that the first few times you consume greens powders you may suffer a small amount of digestional discomfort.

The Arbonne Greens Balance is clear that it is ‘Made in a facility that processes wheat, Crustacean shellfish, fish, soybeans, milk, and tree nuts’. It’s helpful to have this little reminder of just why you need to always check what goes into your food and drink, and also the environment in which it is being produced.

Does Arbonne Greens Balance Actually Work?

Again I can look at reviews to take a balanced view of the effectiveness of these powders.

My instinct is that due to the proprietary blends it would be hard to say how and why the blend would or could be as effective as others available on the market, but one reviewer claims;

I will NOT be giving up my Greens balance … I am feeling a lot healthier this year and my energy levels are fantastic, my immune system is awesome, my hormones are balanced, and my rheumatoid arthritis is not only under control, but I wake up to no pain or stiffness at all. Let's just say that what I'm doing is working really well.

The few reviewers that I have found tend to also have participated in the Arbonne Detox, a program that supplies bottled formulations for 7-days worth of detoxifying.

This is interesting, so I’ve taken a short look at this product too.

The Arbonne Detox is marketed as a parcel of products, named ‘30 days to healthy living’.

There’s a 20-page guide available on the website which guides you through the various products and daily behaviors. There are testimonials on the site that suggest how effective the detox is. Of course, it is the intention that you buy into the whole package by also buying products from the skincare range to enhance your healthy ‘outside’.

Arbonne Greens Balance Customer Reviews

Arbonne Green Balance reviews are, as I stated above, fairly hard to come by.

By contrast, one only needs to do a little searching around to find a plethora of complaints about Arbonne themselves as a business and their products.

This is to be expected with a huge multinational corporation, especially one that relies so heavily on brand loyalty and peer-influencing, and much of the complaining is around this aspect, rather than the specific products I am reviewing.

Money Back Guarantee / Returns Policy

Arbonne has a complicated system whereby you must obtain a return merchandise authorization number (through calling their customer support phone number), and I have no idea what happens next.

Not particularly transparent.

Where to Buy Arbonne Greens Balance?

Other than finding your own Arbonne Independent Consultant (or becoming one yourself!) you can find their products available on their official site and at Amazon.

Is It Worth the Price?

The tub of Arbonne Essentials Green balance retails on their own site (30 servings) for $52 USD. I am not 100% clear how large the tub is, but if you multiply the per-scoop serving size by 30 (daily servings) it works out as 220g.

This is a very expensive product whichever way you cut it.

Arbonne Greens Balance bottle

The Bottom Line

So, rather than hark on about how much I dislike MLM selling and businesses based on this model, I’ll bring it back to the product. I just don’t think it’s for me, and here’s why:

Arbonne have used a proprietary blend, meaning I don’t know how much I’m getting of each ingredient. With this product being a part of their ‘Essentials’ range I really wanted it to be a potent blend of effective ingredients, but sadly it doesn’t appear to be the case.

With ingredients coming in such a small serving size I believe the product is definitely overpriced for what you’re getting. The tub is only 30 days’ supply and retails at $52 US. Too much money for me, for a product which cannot be considered to be ‘best of breed’.

Finally, you can tell I am not a fan of Arbonne Greens, for the reasons stated above. My search for the ideal greens powder blend continues or does it?

One of the elements of researching super greens that I particularly enjoy is looking at the stories behind the brand. Purely Inspired is a brand that has healthy living at its heart.

From the outset, you can tell that their main agenda is to promote their products as part of an achievable healthy lifestyle.

The main categories of products that they sell fall into ‘Protein and Nutritional’, ‘Weight loss and Dietary’, and ‘Superfoods’.

I am predominantly interested in the Superfoods category and so took a closer look at one of their products, Purely Inspired Organic Greens.

Purely Inspired Superfood

I tried over 40 brands: check out my best greens superfood brands!)

Purely Inspired Organic Greens First Impressions

‘Crafted for a healthy lifestyle’ is the main website tagline for Purely Inspired. As a brand, this gives the impression of an achievable total lifestyle make-over, which (if you’re like me and like the idea of increasing your nutritional intake in one easy, daily step) is a very appealing prospect.

Overall I really enjoyed browsing the website. There is plenty of information including a blog that contains articles on superfoods, nutrition, and a wealth of further information on organic foods.

The website is not only a shop-front but also carries plenty of value-adding content including testimonials from the brand and product Ambassadors, recipes, and inspirational (inevitably linking to Instagram) images.

The tin of Purely Inspired Organic Greens which is pictured on their website claims ‘America’s number 1 fastest-growing supplements brand’. So how can I not be intrigued to find out more?

Background on Purely Inspired

Purely Inspired is a brand that seems to encapsulate an entire lifestyle choice within its brand.

That being said I found it hard to establish much of a background or story, there is very little information on their pages relating to how the company came about, who is behind the brand or the company’s mission, vision, or values.

Saying that I am prepared to give the brand the benefit of the doubt. As I mentioned above they have made the claim that this is a fast-growing brand, and as such, I am convinced that through this powerful marketing strategy Purely Inspired are clearly playing to their strengths.

So with background information about the brand being thin on the ground, I instead opt to look at the specific products. In this Purely Inspired Organic Greens review, I’ll look at the ingredients of the super greens blend and try to establish whether this particular product looks to stand up against the stiff competition of other greens on the market.

The product (as it appears on the website) carries the full title Purely Inspired Organic Greens Plus superfoods and multivitamins, and this appears to me to be promising so much in one product.

Perhaps it is too good to be true? Let’s have a closer look.

Purely Inspired Organic Greens Ingredients

Purely Inspired Super Greens label

From the product images you can already see that the key features of this product are:

39 Superfoods, Source of Antioxidants C + E, 18 Vitamins and Minerals, Active probiotics.

This is all very appealing in terms of marketing the product, but I want to know more about the individual ingredients, especially those claiming to be Superfoods. So we need to look more closely at the actual ingredients label on the tin.

Firstly I’m pleased that they include a close-up of the ingredients listing on the website, which many competitor products do.

As with many Super greens powders on the market, the ingredients list is HUGE. I’m just going to break down some of the elements of the Organic Greens, Sprouts, and Grains blend, which makes up 8,755mg.

The following usual suspects appear, but with a difference:

  • Organic Chlorella (as Chlorella vulgaris) (whole plant)
  • Organic Barley Grass (as Hordeum vulgare) (aerial parts)
  • Organic Wheatgrass (as Triticum aestivum) (aerial parts)
  • Organic Spirulina (as Arthrospira platensis) (whole plant)

I first want to say how unusual and refreshing it is to see that Purely Inspired includes details of specific plant parts in their ingredients list. Inspired indeed! This sort of transparency is a big bonus in my view. Of course, chlorella and spirulina are algae, so I would expect the whole plant to be used, however, I am interested that the company has been so transparent in their labeling.

As with many Super greens powders on the market the ingredients list is HUGE.

The fruit & veggie plus probiotic blend makes up 1,190mg and includes blueberry, broccoli, beets and sweet potato. The serving size (one scoop) is a huge and healthy 10g. This also provides 1g fiber, 1g protein.

As I’ve said I’m really impressed with this transparency around ingredients as usually I am left thinking ‘why don’t you just be honest about what’s going into these powders’?

I can understand that companies don’t want people to poach their ‘recipe’, but I’ve already established that this is possible (if you could be bothered to have a formulation broken down in a lab by the men – or women – in white coats).

But more to the point, if you are selling a product – an organic, whole-foods, superfood product at that – why would you not be honest to your customers about what they will be ingesting?

Purely Inspired is at least a little ahead of the pack in this aspect and I applaud that. BUT they are still using a proprietary blend that doesn't disclose all the ingredient amounts.

How Does Purely Inspired Organic Greens Taste?

This powder stands out from the competition as it is actually intended to be unflavored. I’m a little confused though as some reviewers claim there is an artificial sweetener included.

Some of the reviews on the site state that Purely Inspired Organic Greens has a ‘great flavor’, which is in contrast to some other products available on the market. Reviewers also commented that mixing it doesn’t present any problems.

the flavor is actually decent compared to some of the other superfood powders I have tried in the past

I have been mixing them in my smoothies and have not noticed any flavor difference

Some customers on Amazon, however, have a different view:

I made a mistake and ordered the wrong stuff. I can hardly get this down it is way too sweet it mixes well and has all the other ingredients that are good but the Stevia makes it taste way too sweet for me. I will not be ordering this again.’ – Amazon customer.

Side Effects

As with all nutritional supplements you must not take Purely Inspired products if you have a known allergy or sensitivity to any of the ingredients. That being said there may also be slight side effects when taking a greens supplement of any kind for the first time.

Does Purely Inspired Organic Greens Actually Work?

The real beauty – as we all know – of the super greens blend is that you can get all your daily nutrient needs fulfilled in one complete drink. However the problem for us reviewers is establishing whether each individual ingredient is really available in a high enough concentration to really be making a noticeable difference to your health.

We already know that people take nutritional supplements for many different reasons: for increased energy, to improve concentration, to improve the immune system, to enable better general well-being (such as better quality sleep). In this sense, it is very difficult to establish which products can really claim to be proven to be enabling any of the above improvements.

It does, however, stand to reason that if some of the more potent ingredients (those which are proven to be instrumental in improving the above aspects) are in a high enough concentration in a formulation, we might start to see improvements.

Purely Inspired Organic Greens Customer Reviews

At the time of writing there were 374 customer reviews on Amazon for Purely Inspired Organic Greens Powder. Although I wasn’t prepared to read them all, a quick skim seems to reveal that while positive, customers are disappointed with a variety of aspects from taste (‘funky’, ‘like cereal milk’, ‘too sweet’), to how the powders to mix.

Some customers found the price to be about right, whereas others complained that it was too expensive. Considering the price point it's unclear why anyone would regard these super greens as expensive though!

In the main, I would say that the reviews are fairly representative of individual consumers and their range of personal tastes and expectations.

The reviews on the Purely Inspired product pages are clearly more geared towards results and selling the product on the basis of achievable outcomes. With an average of 4.6 out of 5 stars, and 96% of reviewers recommending the product, the comments are hand-picked so we should be a bit wary of bias.

Money Back Guarantee / Returns Policy

Purely Inspired only have a 30-day money back guarantee, however products must be returned unopened / unused.

I always have a bit of a problem with this as you therefore cannot return on the grounds of not liking the taste, or if you find something wrong with the product once you open the can.

Where to Buy Purely Inspired Organic Greens?

As with most super greens powders, I usually turn to Amazon for both reviews and to buy a product, but you can also go directly to the Purely Inspired Organic Greens product page.

You can also check out all Purely Inspired supplements on Amazon here.

Is It Worth the Price?

This is a difficult element of this review for me. I feel slightly conflicted as I like the product, I think there’s a lot going on in the tub and therefore I do think it’s a quality product. BUT the serving size is big and therefore the 20-serving tub won’t last long.

The current price on Amazon is $18.44 USD, however, the price on the Purely Inspired website is $12.99 USD.

the tub only provides 20 servings so you would have to buy quite a few tubs if you were set on taking this product daily.

As I said above, I am a big fan of the big serving. I like the fact that Purely Inspired has been so transparent with the ingredients, their amounts, and also which parts of the plants are being used. I really feel that this transparency means you can have total faith in what you are taking.

The ingredients are organic so the product works out slightly more expensive than competitor brands. But this looks to be one of the most complete Organic super greens available, similar to Green Vibrance and Athletic greens.

This being said, the tub only provides 20 servings so you would have to buy quite a few tubs if you were set on taking this product daily.

If you're looking for a brand that focuses more fewer quality ingredients in the right amounts so you only need one glass per day, then you can check out SuperGreen TONIK too.

The Bottom Line

With my quest to find a truly transparently-labeled Super Greens powder on the market which provides value for money and has a good reputation, I would say that Purely Inspired is getting there.

Their Organic Greens plus Superfoods and Multivitamins could well be considered to be doing nearly all of the things I need a Super Greens powder to deliver, but I would really like to see a more appealing price point or even a 3-tub deal to sweeten the sting of the outlay.

Purely Inspired greens is not for me and prefer other brands I have previously reviewed, so I will not be buying this supplement.

I recently discovered Onnit Earth Grown Nutrients when checking out Onnit's Total Human supplement pack, which includes a daily bundle of their most popular supplements.

I remember thinking this was genius both in terms of meeting customer needs for an all-in-one supplement pack but also marketing-wise. Total Human indeed!

Onnit is an awesome company with the founder Aubrey Marcus truly walking the walk in terms of practicing what he preaches.

I first discovered this company when I gave their Nootropic supplement AlphaBrain a try some years ago. Whilst I didn’t necessarily notice much of a change then, I am keen to give Onnit supplements another try.

So, is Onnit Earth Grown Nutrients (EGN) the all-in-one daily greens supplement for me?

Onnit EGN review sample

What is ONNIT EGN?

I am a massive fan of the brand Onnit, both in terms of their company and founder, but also for the supplements these guys produce.

The company makes quality supplements that are focused on performance and not just hype. They also look awesome!

Onnit Earth Grown Nutrients (EGN for short) looks great and is similar in design to all Onnit’s supplements. It’s available in two flavors; black cherry and lemon.

In fact, I would say their all-in-one greens power mix is one of the best-looking brands on the market (and I have checked out a lot of green powder supplements).

The company manufactures many different supplements and their Onnit Earth Grown Nutrients is one of their lesser-known products.

The order process wasn't too straightforward for me as I was ordering from outside the US, especially when having different shipping and billing addresses. I completed the process 4 times and gave up out of frustration, mainly because the first attempt does not allow the processing of my UK card. In the end, I had to use PayPal in order to process my order!

The order didn't take long to arrive from the US, but I was in for a shock when I got the import bill – cost me $60 (USD) to import my ONNIT supplement order!

So, ordering internationally from the US to Malaysia was VERY expensive – $47 USD for FedEx and $60 USD for import!

I ordered 2 boxed of Onnit Gut Health, Onnit Krill Oil, Onnit Shroom Tech, and of course Onnit EGN.

Background on Onnit Supplements

Onnit was started in 2010 by Aubrey Marcus who used his background in marketing to develop a supplement company that focuses on performance.

Their flagship product is AlphaBRAIN (a nootropic supplement) and business partner Joe Rogan has helped to grow the company to be worth $28 million in 2018. Onnit supplements have become industry leaders in what they call Total Human Optimization.

The company now has a number of brand ambassadors from athletes, UFC fighters, footballers, and actors/producers.

Aubrey Marcus has written a book “Own the Day, Own your day” that’s available via Amazon.com. This is a great read if you’re interested in the reasoning behind the Onnit brand and supplements and also provides brilliant advice for optimizing your health and lifestyle.

Onnit Supplements

Earth Grown Nutrients Ingredients

Onnit is keen to provide you with more than just the standard ingredients found in other supplements, including cutting-edge ingredients in their formulation that are not those you would usually find in other supplements. This is also true of the ingredients chosen for the super greens supplement.

Each serving size is 12.9g and so each 200g tub is enough for just 15 servings.

It’s interesting why they choose to include so few servings in each tub, possibly to reduce shipping charges or to make the product (which is at the higher end of the pricing range for greens) appear more affordable?

I counted 25 ingredients in total. These are divided between 5 proprietary blends.

This means, of course, that we don’t know the individual ingredient amounts.

Onnit EGN Label

The fancy-sounding blends include ingredients focused on helping detoxify the body, neutralize free radicals, and help support the immune system through improved gut health.

It’s interesting to note that one of the most popular super green ingredients is absent on the label – Spirulina. Instead, the formulation includes the likes of kale, barley, oat and wheatgrass, and more obscure ingredients such as Organic Schizandra, Dandelion Extract, and Camu Camu Extract.

Onnit Power Greens Blend (3,450mg) – 8 ingredients

Organic Wheat Grass, Organic Kale (leaf), Organic Barley Grass, Organic Oat Grass, Moringa (leaf), Organic Kelp, Dulse (whole), Alfafa Extract.

Onnit Champion Blend (3,000mg) – 5 ingredients

Organic Purple Corn (kernal), Organic Lucuma (fruit), Camu Camu (fruit) extract, Macu (fruit), Acai (fruit).

Onnit Detox Blend (2,500mg) – 6 ingredients

Organic Schisandra (fruit), Organic Nettle, Milk Thistle (seed) extract, Broccoli Sprout (seed), Dandelion (root) extract, Olive (leaf) extract.

Onnit Rainbow Blend (1,750mg) – 3 ingredients

Organic Beet (root), Cranberry (Fruit), Organic Carrot.

Onnit Gut Blend (1,270mg) – 3 ingredients

Organic Jerusalem Artichoke (root), Papaya (fruit) Phytase, Hemicellulase.

Although there is no reason stated for hiding the amounts of the individual ingredients within each blend, we have to consider that each blend is a trademarked so can only assume this is to prevent other companies from copying the formulation.

In my opinion, this isn’t a good enough reason not to be transparent with your customers. Anyone looking to copy the blend can have the product analyzed to get the breakdown.

It’s worth pointing out that the trademark is for the name of the blend and NOT the ingredients and their amounts.

How Does Earth Grown Nutrients Taste?

Taking a look at customer feedback it seems that most people like the taste. Only one customer really disliked it enough to comment on Amazon (see below).

… I really disliked the taste…. I couldn't imagine drinking this each day – very disappointing.

When I gave it a try though I really disliked the taste. Maybe this was because I chose the Lemon flavor, but I couldn't imagine drinking this each day – very disappointing.

Side Effects

It’s unlikely you’re going to experience any long-lasting negative side effects from taking the Earth Grown Nutrients supplement. Possibly you may experience a very mild stomach upset if you’re susceptible to stomach complaints.

Most people taking this supplement seem to cope with the formulation without any ill effects.

There is, however, fish included in the form of cod, herring, and also some shellfish (shrimp and lobster) therefore if you have a shellfish allergy you should avoid this supplement.

Does Earth Grown Nutrients Work?

At the risk of repeating myself (apparently I do this – according to family and friends!) the use of a proprietary blend means we, as consumers, don’t know for sure the quantity of each ingredient inside the blend. We’re completely reliant on the company to ensure they actually include an effective amount of each ingredient.

This can mean taking a huge leap of faith, especially with an unknown brand (if you haven’t already tried – and liked – one of their products).

However, I have to say, this isn’t the case here with Onnit – they are a well-established company with a great reputation. As such I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that they most likely will be providing sufficient quantities of ingredients in their formulation.

The feedback from most customers seem to be very good, in fact reviews are largely glowing!

In terms of claims Onnit really doesn’t make any with their greens supplement. Essentially it’s a supplement aimed at providing greens and selected herbs that can help detoxify your body.

So Onnit Earth Grown Nutrients may well give you a “top-up” of your daily greens that you’re looking for.

Earth Grown Nutrients Customer Reviews

Customer feedback seems to be really positive for Onnit’s green supplement. The official website does show customer ratings and feedback which tends to be 4 or 5 stars.

Looking at customers who bought through Amazon there are 55% of customers rated it 5 stars and 28% 4 stars. Only 10% of customers rated it a 2 or 1 star.

Some of the customer feedback comments:

I had a really good amount of energy and good mood (and still do every time I take it) and for some reason, it seems to curb my appetite. I didn't know if it was a placebo effect so I told my husband about my purchase and he tried it the next day. He's hooked now too. Brittany.

I’ll give it the full 5 stars because I use this product every day, and I am a fan of Onnit supplements. It’s a damn good company, their products are top-notch. I do not like this flavor as much as the other one though. Lemon mint tastes better, but they don’t have it and haven’t in a while for whatever reason. Kenny

No difference notice …. I am moving on from this product because it simply didn't feel anything different but what I truly didn't like was lack of clarity on what percentages are you taking it.. Amazon Customer.

It tastes so bad I can't use it. Cao.

Money Back Guarantee / Returns Policy

The “Keep-It” money-back guarantee applies for first-time purchases of any formula purchased for up to 90 days from the purchase date. This means the guarantee would only apply the first time you order a particular supplement, which is fine as you’re unlikely to reorder a product you’re not happy with it!

One point to note though, this ONLY applies to SINGLE tubs ordered, and any multiple tubs would not apply under the guarantee.

Part of the refund policy highlights that you should try the supplement for 30 days in order to see intended results and only after 30 days can you apply for a refund. Also upon returning the remainder container partial refunds may be granted in some cases.

So, this policy seems to suggest you may not receive 100% of your money back when applying through the money-back guarantee.

Where to Buy Earth Grown Nutrients?

The official website is the most obvious place to buy Earth Grown Nutrients although other online stores do also stock it. Most of them seemed out of stock when I checked them.

Onnit does have an official Amazon store too where it looks like all the supplements are available to order.

If you’re an Amazon Prime member looking to buy a few supplements at the same time then Amazon may be the best option although the cost is a few dollars more.

Check out Onnit Earth Grown Nutrients on Amazon here.

Is It Worth the Price?

Each tub contains only 15 servings so you will need to buy two tubs for one month’s supply. This means the cost is nearer to $60-70 USD per month depending on whether you buy it individually or have it shipped automatically.

…you will need to buy two tubs for one month’s supply. This means the cost is nearer to $60-70 USD per month

While not at the high-end considering the costs of other products (such as Athletic Greens and Green Detox), having such a small tub does mean customers need to order a few times per month. There is a ‘subscribe and save’ option which means you can save 15% and have the tubs automatically sent every 2 weeks.

The Bottom Line

Onnit Earth Grown Nutrients Tub

I am definitely a huge fan of Onnit supplements. They have great branding, the company has a great reputation and the supplements are really designed around delivering results.

While I am reasonably confident that the team at Onnit would be using sufficient ingredients in their blend it would be nice to see the actual ingredient amounts used. I really dislike the practice of using proprietary blends and I don’t believe this should be the standard that it is becoming.

The small number of servings per tub means you need to buy multiple tubs to see you through the month. I am unsure why the company has opted to take this approach as I would personally prefer to receive a full month’s supply in each tub.

To wrap up, the lack of transparent labeling aside, Onnit Earth Grown Nutrients looks to be a great product and could be the ideal choice for anyone looking to supplement their diet with daily greens. For me though, I really disliked the taste and thought the cost was on the high side.

As I am fast discovering, there is a whole world of supplements, nutritional drink blends, and superfood pills and powders available to everyone and anyone who chooses to buy online.

These various dietary products are being sold to a market that is growing in terms not only of numbers but in their interest and knowledge in specific areas. One such area – as we know – is with the rise in popular greens powders (also known, and marketed, as super greens or greens blend), and a company that is working hard on building its following are IT Works!.

With a marketing tagline like this (Have you tried it? IT works!) who could fail to be completely intrigued?

I particularly wanted to know more about their “healthy” IT Works Greens Blend and It Works Greens on the Go, alongside the full range of It Works products.

So let’s dig a little more and see what we can find out about the company, their range of healthy products, and what people are saying.

IT works! greens tub

What is IT Works Greens?

The range of nutritional supplements and other products seems impressive. Their online shop also carries clothing and other branded products, however, I’m more interested in the range of Greens powders that aim to detoxify and alkalize your body by supplying much-needed vitamins, minerals, and other herbs and vegetables.

From on-the-go sticks of the Greens blend (IT Works Greens on the Go blend – more on this below) to the more standard-sized tubs or canisters of greens; there is also a chewable probiotic blend available.

The It Works Greens Blend currently comes in Berry and Chocolate flavor and the packaging seems to promise three things: Alkalize, Balance, Detoxify. These are not unusual claims for greens blends, and most customers will be looking for ingredients within the blend which are proven to restore body pH and gain a nutrient boost.

Below I will break down the ingredients and go into more detail about the blends, but from the outset, I am already a little disappointed in terms of what I can find on the list of the main ingredients on their product pages of the website.

It Works Greens appear to be using a proprietary blend which means they are not telling us how much of each ingredient they are including (therefore I can’t possibly know what is in each individual serving). As I said, I’ll go into detail below, but this is one aspect that definitely sounds the alarm on this product.

Background on It Works!

It Works! are clear from the outset on their website that they are a multilevel marketing ‘employer’, and as such part of their pitch is encouraging their customers to become brand ambassadors (read: distributors) and to run a home business to sell their products.

I’m not going to go into a huge amount of detail about MLM in this review as I am more interested in their products, hence this being a review more specifically of It Works! Greens products, but I will use this opportunity to say that I’m disinclined to buy anything through businesses structured like this.

I will use this opportunity to say that I’m disinclined to buy anything through businesses structured like this.

I don’t like the idea of loyal customers being encouraged to sell to friends and family and I think a company should be able to do this on the strength of their own marketing, values, and customer base.

The company has big claims on their website About us page, stating ‘It Works! is an industry-leading beauty and nutrition company that empowers people to live the life of their dreams’ (Mark B. Pentecost, Founder, and CEO).

Pentecost and his wife, Cindy, clearly have a mission to help (they are also the founders of the It Works! Gives Back Foundation), but I’m not sure that the business model is really something that resonates, personally, for me.

IT Works Greens Ingredients

As with all of my reviews, this It Works Greens blend review will delve a little into what’s available on the packaging to describe the contents.

Taking a look at the tub pictured on the website, it looks as though they have used a three-way blend to provide ingredients that claim to have an alkalizing, balancing, and detoxifying effect.

It Works have stated on the product pages of their website that the blend includes:

  • Acidity-fighting magnesium and potassium blend
  • 52 herbs and nutrient rich superfoods
  • 34 fruits and veggies
  • Matcha Green Tea

HOWEVER, if you want to find out the individual ingredients you either have to buy their product, click through on a tab which says ‘further product info’ and take a closer look at the packaging, or does as I do and google!

On another website I found the following:

Greens Proprietary Blend (1080 mg)

Blue-Green Algae (Spirulina), Parsley Leaf, Barley Grass, Spinach Leaf, Chlorella Algae, Alfalfa Extract, Matcha Green Tea Leaf, Watercress, Rosemary Leaf, Plantain Leaf, Dandelion Leaf, Lemongrass, Green Tea Leaf Extract, Dulse.

Whole Foods Proprietary Blend (1475 mg)

Pea Fiber, Apple Fiber, Eleuthero Root Extract, Fruit and Vegetable Blend (Apple, Carrot, Tomato Juice, Orange Juice, Blueberry, Rosehips, Beet, Amla, Kale, Plum, Ginger, Pineapple Juice, Cauliflower, Broccoli, Grape Juice, Grapefruit Juice, White Willow, Onion, Papaya Juice, Peach, Pear Juice, Brussels Sprouts, Lemon Juice, Raspberry Juice, Strawberry Juice, Pumpkin, Black Currant, Goji), Sunflower Lecithin, Astragalus Root Extract, Turmeric, Meadowsweet Herb, Blackberry Fruit, Acerola, Bilberry Fruit Extract, Cranberry.

They also do not state that their ingredients are organic, despite stating that their ingredients are Keto-friendly, non-GMO, soy-free, and Vegan.

As I have mentioned previously I really don’t like relying on having to google (or look at a review site) to find the ingredients list from the packaging to tell me more about the ingredients! Why not be upfront about what goes into your blend? I want to know from the outset what is going in any product I buy.

The suggested serving size is two scoops in an 8-oz glass of water or one sachet in a glass of water. I can tell that the sachet of On the Go Greens blend is 4g, but I struggled to find information on the scoop size.

How Does IT Works Greens Taste?

IT Works! Greens superfoodReviews tell me that people are happy with the taste, however, it’s clear that the company have tried a variety of flavors before settling on the Chocolate and Berry varieties available on their site (there are reviews of an orange flavor blend).

It Works products also don’t have customer reviews directly on each product page, which I take to be negative. I’ve searched around and am assuming that overall the taste is similar to other Greens products.

One or two customers state that the flavor isn’t the best, however at the same time they admit that they find it to be working for them.

This stuff tastes so nasty but get tolerable after a week or so. The reason to continue using it is that it helps with mental energy and I am losing weight. – Amazon customer.

This is perfect in a morning green smoothie. Don't put more than a scoop or the sweet taste can be overwhelming. – Amazon customer.

Side Effects of IT Works Greens

As with all proprietary blends, it is really difficult to tell if you would get any ill effects from taking the It Works Greens. They are hardly transparent about the ingredients so it takes a bit of digging to find out if there are any particular ingredients that could cause you discomfort or side effects.

The serving sizes are also relatively small so it’s hard to say whether anyone ingredient would be large enough in portion size to cause any issues. The amount of fiber, for example, in each serving is only around 1g.

Obviously, you should not take this product if you have known allergies to any of the listed ingredients, and I can only assume that if you already have suffered ill effects from ingredients such as dandelion, plantain leaf, pea, or apple fiber, that you would probably be better off giving this product a miss.

Does IT Works Greens Actually Work?

The reviews online in the Amazon shop and on the It Works! website seems to be very positive, but once again I am going to refer to the serving size in my assumptions here. The serving recommended in the tubs is two scoops. The tubs come in 125g (Berry) and 180g (Chocolate), with a suggested 30 servings per tub, and the individual sachets are 4g each.

Therefore if we extrapolate down, the Greens Proprietary Blend (1080 mg) must only include a minute amount of each of the ingredients, as it is combined with the Whole Foods Proprietary Blend (1475 mg) to make a complete serving.

Taking what I would expect to be the most potent ingredients (algae has a proven beneficial effect on the body) the recommended amount of, for example, spirulina (on examine.com) is between 1-8g per day.

…the blend could be losing effectiveness through such small daily portion sizes.

So we can see that through ‘padding’ out the ingredients with a fruit and vegetable blend, or legume proteins, the blend could be losing effectiveness through such small daily portion sizes.

IT Works Greens Customer Reviews

Some of the questions asked about the It Works Green blend products mention that the current blend is a vast improvement from previous blends which included Soy isolate and Soy protein products as ‘filler’ and to improve protein content.

However, the reviews online are fairly balanced and you take what you will from the individual comments:

This tastes good and I feel like I'm getting the greens I need. Amazon review

Awesome greens gives good energy. I would recommend it to my friends, which I have already. Amazon review.

Money Back Guarantee / Returns Policy

It Works have an It Works! promise – offering a 30-day returns policy, however since I didn’t want to read through a 17-page returns policy I’m not sure exactly what this entails. Presumably, as they state the products must be returned unused this is a bit of an issue.

It Works also encourages its ‘distributors’ and loyal customers to bulk buy products together, therefore presumably cutting down on the amount of returned products, once loyalty has been established.

Where to Buy IT Works Greens?

Probably the best place online to buy these products is through their official website. Alternatively, you can find a distributor (or become one!).

An amazon store is also available and looking at the reviews here is often useful for choosing which products you would like to try.

Is It Worth the Price?

I’ve already said that I was disappointed in the lack of transparency about ingredients AND the serving size. While not the most expensive brand on the market, It Works Greens blend is neither the cheapest, the biggest serving nor can it (to my mind) therefore be the most effective.

IT Works Green blend is very expensive at $1.83 per small 4g servings over 30 days or $1.96 for Greens on the Go.

It Works! Greens on the go sachet

I have to say I do like the idea of the on-the-go sticks and this would be the perfect way to take your greens with you when traveling, or just on your commute to work.

That being said the serving size of the individual It Works! Greens on the go blend are very small so I am already questioning the effectiveness of taking such a small daily dose.

Can you really get enough of your daily greens in a 4g serving?

IT Works Greens FAQs

Here are some of the frequently asked questions about IT Works Greens.

Is IT Works Greens a meal replacement?

In short no. As with most greens drinks, IT Works is to be taken alongside a healthy and varied diet.

Is IT Works Greens Blend gluten free?

The product is formulated with only gluten-free ingredients however it is not currently tested to detect gluten that may or may not be introduced during the manufacturing process. So, if you're particularly sensitive to gluten then this superfood product may not be suitable for you.

Is IT Works Greens safe for breastfeeding?

The advice for all dietary supplements is to seek medical advice if pregnant or breastfeeding. The manufacturer recommended guidelines typically state it's not suitable as one or more ingredients may have an adverse reaction. I am not a medical doctor so I would urge you to speak to your doctor.

Does IT Works Greens on the Go have caffeine?

It does in the form of “Matcha Green Tea” and “Green Tea Leaf Extract”, both of which contain natural caffeine. So, if you're looking for caffeine-free or are particularly sensitive to caffeine then I suggest you look at alternatives.

Does IT Works Greens expire?

Yes, every supplement should have a clear “expiration” or “manufactured” date on the box or tub. Typically the expiration period is two years from the manufactured date.

Does IT Works Greens cause diarrhea?

Some ingredients within the formula have been shown to cause stomach upsets and diarrhea, but this doesn't necessarily mean you will.

The Bottom Line

I’m already very transparent about the things I like to see when reviewing Greens powders.

I like the company to have a mission or vision that chimes with my own, a personal story for example, and I want to see transparency in their ingredients list.

The individual ingredients in these products may well be proven to have nutritional benefits, but I remain unconvinced that the serving sizes and therefore potency of each ingredient would be enough to be truly beneficial to your health in the long term.

These two points are so crucial for me in determining whether I wish to take a supplement that I won't personally be taking IT Works Greens!.

There is no shortage of Super greens supplements on the market, and with such a choice a brand really needs to stand out. For me, IT Works Greens is not so much superfood but more like a super dud!

Whether looking for an energy boost or to achieve your day’s worth of full nutrient needs, taking super greens can be the best and quickest way to ‘insure’ your body against poor health and undernourishment.

As I have already discovered there is a huge choice of powdered green supplements, and my research has led me to sample and investigate a number of blends.

Kylea Total Living Greens Drink is a blend that claims a ‘nine-products-in-one whole-food super-food formula’. The blend also claims to contain the nutritional equivalent of 7-10 servings of raw fruit and vegetables.

Alongside these two heavy claims, they have also included a good portion of protein (11-12g per serving), which is great if you are looking to up your protein intake.

This seems to be a good product, so I wanted to delve a little deeper.

My Total Living Drink Greens sample

I tried over 40 brands: For the best greens powder go to this post!)

Total Living Drink Greens First Impressions

The packaging for Total Living Drink Greens looks striking, with its green logo on a black background it is certainly eye-catching. There is a huge amount of information on the pack and the website also seems to be really heavy on the information.

However (and this is something I always look for in a product), I immediately ask myself whether the company is transparent about the blend or whether they are using a proprietary blend.

Looking at the ingredients list I was a little disappointed. The suggested serving size is quite large (at 40g, about 5-10g bigger than competitors suggest) and about 11-12g of this is taken up with protein.

I was also disappointed to see that within the sub-blends, Kylea has not been very transparent with the exact amounts of each ingredient included.

Background on Kylea Health

When considering drinking super greens mixes for health there are a few different angles people usually look for: general health support, specific nutritional needs (such as more energy, higher servings of certain nutrients, brain or immuno-support, etc).

Kylea Health is about helping people ‘feel better’.

This is a general health claim and not one which I can really see much support for.

The website has a bold testimonials section in their About Us area (including a personal endorsement by Jerry Rose, President of the Total Living Network), however I honestly found it hard to find out anything other than generic health and wellbeing information.

I’d have really liked to see a much more honest background story with some personal history in order to feel more in touch with the Kylea brand.

The company also offers a few other complementary supplements that can help support immunity (max immunity), colon health (Colon & Intestinal cleanse), and a red berry version called Total Living Drink Berry.

Total Living Drink Greens Ingredients

The claims of the nutrient-dense blend which initially caught my eye needs further unpacking. There are a few suggestions that the formula has been changed, and I’m not sure how this new formula differs from the old.

I can only assume that the formula has been improved, but how – not sure.

Total Living Greens Drink supplement facts label

I’m also not sure it’s possible to find out exactly what goes into the greens blend, as the only ingredients listed in their ‘natural vegetable and fruit formula’ are as follows:

Alfalfa juice powder, Spirulina, Fenugreek, Barley juice powder, Broccoli juice powder,
Lecithin, Chlorella, Brown rice bran, Wheatgrass juice powder, Apple juice powder, Bitter melon, Pineapple, Dulse, Luo Han Guo fruit concentrate.

This amounts to 15,330mg – a significant part of the serving size!

But they don’t disclose the precise amounts of each ingredient.

So if you are expecting to achieve your daily intake of, say, Chlorella, how are you to know that this includes enough? Also, if the serving size is 40g, this seems a very low amount of these key ingredients to be included in a Green blend.

I wonder why it is that they haven’t wanted to be so transparent about the formulation of their fruit and vegetables blend.

Kylea is more transparent about their ‘all-natural herbal formula’ within the Kylea Greens blend which includes amounts per ingredient, so I wonder why it is that they haven’t wanted to be so transparent about the formulation of their fruit and vegetable blend.

How Does Total Living Drink Greens Taste?

The reviews on the amazon pages are a little more insightful than some brands when it comes to taste.

This not only has the better nutrition of the ones I've tried, but it also tastes much better. It definitely has a more pronounced fruity flavor. Fairly good energy and overall well being.

This green drink tastes really good and I have noticed a difference in the way I feel. It made my hair grow faster too!

As with most people taking Super Greens Drink powders, there is always personal taste to take into account, but I would say that on balance people seem to like the taste of the Kylea Total Living Drink Greens formula.

Side Effects

It’s a bit less clear whether there would – or could – be any side effects to taking this particular blend. Total Living Drink Greens is quite high in both protein (11-12g per serving) of mostly pea protein, which could cause digestive issues if you are prone to trouble in this area after taking protein drinks.

There is also a probiotic blend, which may or may not assist, again depending on whether your system is used to taking such a product.

Does Total Living Drink Greens Work?

Kylea greens powder scoopAs I’ve already mentioned there is quite a lot going on with the blend in Total Living Drink Greens.

The blend is proprietary, so it’s hard to say what the overall effect could be.

This is one of the biggest downsides to this premium greens product in that with the big-serving size (one of the biggest I have seen in the greens space), it's likely there are enough of some or a lot of the individual ingredients.

The proprietary formula there is a slight bit of doubt though.

There is a but though. I still believe the formula will be beneficial, especially if your diet is consistently poor and you're not getting the daily nutrients required. Then taking greens to drink like this one from Kylea Health could help be your nutritional insurance.

Total Living Drink Greens Customer Reviews

There are plenty of reviews on the Kylea site which seem to give a really balanced view.

A few customers seem to be a bit disappointed with increased prices, but nevertheless, customers are loyal and have been returning their custom.

I’ve been a long time fan of Kylea. For years I purchased several containers at once and had all my family taking it. Everyone keeps asking for it, but we had to consider other options because of the increase in price. We will probably come back.
I highly recommend it for so many good reasons, one it helps you grow beautiful hair and the best part is that even the color comes back. I can go on and on…Good product.

Some customers also report improvements in specific health concerns, such as joint pain:

I wrote a couple of weeks ago and just ordered the second packet. I feel general overall health with lots of energy. I also think this drink has helped with some stiffness and joint soreness. I stopped taking Advil at night. So far I give this an A+.

Some of the reviews on Amazon are a little more negative about the price point, but I suppose it is up to the purchaser to take a balanced view as to whether they are getting their money’s worth due to health effects or other perceived benefits from the product.

Money Back Guarantee / Returns Policy

There is a returns policy that states customers can receive a refund on a product (one-time purchase only, and only on one product) if returned within 30 days. This seems fair and it looks as though some reviewers have been happy with the service.

Where to Buy Total Living Drink Greens?

You can buy Total Living Drink Greens online at the official website.

Is It Worth the Price?

A one-time purchase of the Total Living Drink Greens is $99 (US). There is a ‘subscribe and save’ price of $84.55, a 15% discount, where you can choose to have your next order delivered after 30,45, 60, or 90 days.

Paying almost $100 per monthly supply seems a lot of money, but they do include a lot of ingredients for your buck.

Initially paying almost $100 per monthly supply seems a lot of money, but they do include a lot of ingredients for your buck. The problem is it's not clear exactly how much you're really getting of each ingredient. This brings into question how much value you're really getting from Total Living Drink Greens.

As with all my reviews, it’s hard to say but with this one, I think probably not.

Kylea is a brand that claims to include a lot in its blend. So there are many ingredients. But what if you’re the sort of person who needs to know exactly what they are consuming?

Kylea Greens FAQs

Here are some of the frequently asked questions.

Is Total Living Drink Greens gluten free

Actually, my answer is, not sure. I have researched the website, ingredient label, and other reviews and no one mentions if Kylea's superfood supplement is gluten-free.

Is Kylea Greens Keto friendly?

The carbohydrate content of Kylea greens formula is a little on the high side at 10 grams per serving. Staying in a stick keto diet means less than 20 grams per day and so if you take this product you won't be able to consume much more in terms of carbs. So, this isn't the most keto-friendly of greens powders.

Any Total Living Drink Greens coupons?

Everyone likes to get a discount but at the time of writing this review, I could not find any Kylea coupons.

The Bottom Line

As I am discovering there is a huge amount of choice in the market.

Super Greens are almost as varied in their blends and formulations as any other kind of pre-made powdered nutrient drink (protein drinks etc), however, it is really important to know what goes into something that you are drinking every day.

Why would you spend money on something that claims so much but really isn’t particularly transparent about what goes into it?

Competition is tough in the super greens supplement space, and to really stand out you need a product that stands out. I think Kylea Health have done a great job in providing a different formula from most and including a good protein portion. However, the very high price point and the fact there is no full disclosure labeling it doesn't quite make the cut for me.

Kylea Greens is a solid supplement with a dose of protein if you can afford it.

If you have ever thought of buying super greens then you have no doubt heard of Organifi Green Juice. Most likely you will have seen one of their videos or adverts by the founder, Drew Canole.

I first came across this supplement at a digital marketing conference three years ago when Drew Canole was one of the speakers. He gave an incredibly inspiring talk about his journey from YouTuber to a supplement company owner.

So, if you're considering buying a greens powder take a look at my personal Organifi green juice review and see if this product stands out amongst other powdered greens juices on the market.

What is Organifi Green Juice?

Organifi is very much a healthy lifestyle brand and its products focus on both the body and mind. They market their supplements as a means of achieving balance and harmony in life following the “Organifi Way”.

I like this company and the buzz they create with the content they deliver. That said, I do sometimes cringe with the overly touchy-feely approach they take, especially the founder.

There is no denying that Drew Canole is passionate about health and mental well-being and it’s great to see the owner of the business being out there and connecting with his audience.

The cornerstone of the business is the FitLife blog and Organifi online shop. Looking at the blog, however, there are no more recent articles than 3 months ago. It seems that the focus is more on the video channel.

Drew Canole Fitlife TV

What started out as Drew showing how to juice on YouTube has turned into an incredibly successful channel with over 500k subscribers.

What began as being passionate about juicing turned into a very profitable supplement company that has become a well-known brand with super green advocates.

Their flagship supplement is the Organifi Green Juice and they have now added Probiotics, Protein mixes, Turmeric, Organifi Gold (purporting to aid sleep), and Organifi Red Juice (reputed to be anti-aging and improves energy).

Organifi is a proud supporter of Vitamin Angels, a charity that helps children fight the risk of malnutrition. For every Organifi Red Juice sold, Organifi will pledge to help save a child’s life.

The company is very active through email and if you sign up for the newsletter from either the blog or store you receive regular emails about their products and how they claim to help you.

Organifi Green Juice Ingredients

Organifi's Green Juice comes in a 270g bottle that contains 30 servings with each scoop being 9g in size.

The bulk of the green juice blend ingredients are in two proprietary blends, an alkaline greens blend, and a superfood blend. These account for 6.55gms of the 9g serving.

The remaining ingredients are flavoring (organic lemon juice, monk fruit, mint, orange) and dietary fiber.

Organifi Ingredients

The use of proprietary blends means we don’t get to know the individual ingredient amounts within each blend. This is frustrating as we’re relying on Organifi to have put in sufficient quantities to be effective – and we know that supplements companies often don’t!

On the plus side all the ingredients are organic and so the supplement is USDA certified.

Here are the full green juice ingredients:

Alkaline greens proprietary blend (5.1g)

Organic Wheatgrass, Organic Wheatgrass juice powder, Organic Horseradish Tree (leaf) (Moringa Oleifera), Organic Spirulina (whole plant), Organic Chlorella (whole plant) (Chlorella Vulgaris) and Organic Matcha Green Tea (leaf) (Camellia Sinensis).

Super food proprietary blend (1.45g)

Organic Coconut (fruit) water powder, Organic Ashwagandha (root) extract, Organic Red beet (root), Organic Turmeric.

How Does Green Juice Drink taste?

If you have ever tried a green superfood powder before you already know that most of them taste awful, pretty much like you’re drinking grassy and chalky water.

This is the challenge with all super greens drinks, to make them palatable for consumption every day, without the lingering aftertaste. Feedback from customers tasting Organifi Green Juice has reported the mint taste to be refreshing and not too unpleasant at all.

Side Effects

As with any new supplement, if you’re not familiar with taking a greens powder then there is the chance of mild digestive complaints.

On the whole, it seems that Organifi is well tolerated and few consumers highlight any side effects.

Does Organifi Green Juice work?

If you have read any of the other reviews you can probably guess my answer here, right?

But if we assume (and it’s a big IF) that the ingredient amounts aren’t an issue, let’s focus on the health benefits of Organifi Green Juice.

Other than the usual green superfoods like Spirulina and Wheatgrass, there are some other goods and potentially potent ingredients in Organifi, I especially like Ashwagandha and Chlorella.

Benefits of Ashwagandha

One of my favorite ingredients is Ashwagandha root as this reputedly helps the body to react better to stress and has an anxiety-calming effect. Such adaptogenic ingredients have been shown to be beneficial to immune function too, which is great news for me as for years my immune system has been suppressed.

According to Examine.com you should aim for a daily dose of 300-500mg of Ashwagandha to experience and really enjoy the benefits. Lower amounts may help in some cases though.

In terms of my other favorite Chlorella, this green freshwater algae has an incredibly good nutritional profile being a great source of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, protein, and fiber.

There are several types of Chlorella but the most commonly used one in supplements is Chlorella Vulgaris. This is the type used in Organifi Green Juice.

It’s important to note that in order for Chlorella to be effective at all the ‘cracked-cell wall’ variety should be considered above other varieties. Organifi don’t indicate what type used!

It’s important to note that in order for Chlorella to be effective at all the ‘cracked-cell wall’ variety should be considered above other varieties. This is because the cell wall can't be broken down by digestion and so none of the nutrients would be made available.

Organifi don’t indicate what type of Chlorella they use in their Alkaline blend.

According to the research, you should aim for between 2-3g per day of the cracked cell variety to get the most from this ingredient.

Organifi Green Juice Reviews

There are a fair number of reviews on the official website. At the time of writing this review, there were around 1,038 reviews with the majority giving a 4 or 5-star rating.

As it’s difficult to know if the Organifi reviews on their website are cherry-picked I always like to check out Amazon for potentially less biased feedback.

The higher price of the product on Amazon doesn’t seem to have put customers off as there are a whopping 1692 customers reviews there.

Over 60% of the Amazon customers were happy with the product, rating it 5 stars. As is to be expected, however, not everyone was happy with 12% giving it one out of five.

Here is some of the customer feedback. These are only a select few and I recommend checking out Amazon to read more.

I had an incredible energy boost after taking Organifi for about a week. Tasty and well worth the money. Highly recommended! Chris.

First off this product is incredibly expensive, but worth it. I mix it in water and love the minty taste. About a month ago, I started creating protein smoothies combining this with chocolate or vanilla plant-based protein powder. My energy levels are unbelievable. I used to get tired in the afternoon and evening, but not anymore. In addition, I can tell the difference in how clear my mind is. I highly recommend this product. Schenny.

VERY disappointed with this product. The taste is awful, I could barely choke it down. It tastes like mint-flavored swamp water, and unless you really love the taste of vegetables you are not going to like this. The product is also loaded with cheap cereal grass filler ingredients which I did not notice when I bought. I emailed customer support for a refund, and they are giving me the run-around and refusing to refund my money. Andrew.

One negative review is from an upset customer who had a bad reaction after not reading the label prior to use. It really stood out for various reasons.

I purchased this product after listening to several infomercials on it and thought it sounded like something that would be good for me. When the shipping box arrived there was nothing in it but the product itself. Having watched many videos on how to safely use the product, I assumed it was safe to use as are other supplements that come in powder form…. As a result, I not only did not refrigerate the product after opening the container but I did not consume it within 60 days either. As a result, I became violently ill on 2 separate occasions in March 2017 within an hour of consuming the powder. V. L. Simmons

Organifi Green Juice is at the higher end for super greens costing between $60 and $80 depending on where and how you purchase it.

Some Amazon customers have commented on the volume of the Organifi green powder in the tub – some pictures below.

Organifi green powder quantity

It is much better value than other greens powders I have reviewed such as Green Detox, Patriot Power Greens and Enso Supergreens. Having fewer ingredients is fine as long as they are in high quantities.

Organifi Green Juice FAQs

Some of the frequently asked questions around Organifi Green Juice.

Does Organifi Green Juice help you lose weight?

So there are a huge amount of vitamins, minerals, and plant-based nutrients in Organifi green juice but can these really help you lose weight? You may find you lose a few lbs when drinking Organifi but this isn't a weight loss product.

Although not a meal replacement drink, having this on an empty stomach may reduce appetite, which could, in turn, reduce calorie intake. There are a few mays and might here though. You are more likely to get the benefits of improved digestion and absorption through the intake of nutrients.

Does Organifi Green Juice have caffeine?

It doesn't contain caffeine itself but it is present in one of the ingredients, matcha green tea. So, this means if you're particularly sensitive to caffeine you want to make sure you drink it no later than 3 pm in the afternoon to avoid insomnia.

Does Organifi Green Juice break a fast?

There are some intermittent fasting advocates that suggest taking under 30 kcal is not breaking a fast but for me, I prefer to take zero calories and just drink water and black coffee. If you are fasting then you could drink Organifi prior to your first meal of the day (for me this is 12-1 pm).

Is Organifi Green Juice gluten free?

Organifi states that their Green Juice is gluten-free. It can be difficult to substantiate this claim as it's often difficult to detect if gluten may or may not be introduced during the manufacturing process.

Is Organifi Green Juice safe during pregnancy?

The recommended guidelines are to avoid most supplements when pregnant or breastfeeding unless advised by your medical health professional. The fact is some ingredients are simply not recommended when pregnant for potential known or unknown adverse effects.

Green Juice Review Verdict

Organifi green drink contains very promising ingredients for an acceptable price that tastes not bad. The problem that I am encountering time and time again is the lack of ingredient transparency – we just don’t know how potent and therefore how effective Organifi could be!

The company has its founder Drew Canole as a passionate force behind Organifi and its supplements. But does Organifi stand out from the super greens crowd?

If you want a superfood top-up and you find some of the ingredients appealing then Organifi could be just the super greens for you.

This is one of the better super greens I have seen but at this price point for the number of ingredients, I would expect more from my superfood drink!

Who doesn’t like the idea of a hassle-free way to get your daily greens and a host of other superfoods, without the grind of juicing and messy clear-up?

I know I do, which is why I have spent the last few months exploring the popular super greens available and came across Country Farms Super Greens.

The company behind this brand knows a thing or two about supplements as they have been producing them for some time.

Boasting some fifty ingredients per serving Country Farms Super Greens claims to be the green mix solution to load up with your daily greens and other healthy ingredients in one go.

I am keen to see if this brand’s experience lends itself to solid super greens that deliver on the promise of a ‘powerhouse supplement’ claims to be America’s number one greens product.

Country Farms Super Greens

What is Country Farms Super Greens?

If the name wasn’t enough (Country Farms immediately reminds me of a farm) the logo and background images all depict vegetables and the countryside.

If I am to be honest I am not a fan of the branding. It looks outdated and in my opinion, could do with a revamp, this goes for the website and tubs too!

In terms of the product, Country Farms Super Greens is a budget-friendly super greens supplement that’s available in a variety of flavors: natural, berry, chocolate, and apple banana.

Country Farms supplements

Background on Country Farms Super Greens

The Country Farms brand is actually manufactured by Windmill Health Products Inc which was originally founded in 1950. According to Bloomberg is a subsidiary of VitaQuest International LLC.

Windmill Health Products have another supplement brand called Windmill Vitamins and, as you would expect from the name, they stock a full range of vitamins and minerals. This business seems to be aimed more at the wholesale and distributor market and not so much at the e-commerce channel.

The company did receive some negative press and an FDA warning letter in 2016 for inappropriate medical claims on the windmillvitamins.com website. This matter was addressed by the company and no further action was taken.

Country Farms Super Greens ingredients

Country Farms Super Green IngredientsThe green drink mix is 100% organic and certified by USDA and has 50 organic ingredients, including superfoods and dairy-free probiotics.

Each scoop is 15g and is recommended to be taken with 8 fl. oz of cold water (or any beverage of your choice) once per day.

The nutritional breakdown varies a little according to the flavor in terms of total calories, fiber, and protein content. All flavors have a minimum of 4 grams of fiber.

Now onto the ingredients themselves. There is a wide range of superfoods in the mix, including many of the familiar super greens seen in similar products.

The organic superfood blend makes up 10g in total, however, the individual amounts are not disclosed as they form part of a proprietary blend. There is no sound reason for doing this and in my opinion, it means you really don’t know how much you’re taking of each ingredient.

I have discussed in more detail why I dislike proprietary blend in supplements.

Country Farms Super Greens are worse still, in that even the individual sub-blends within the blend do not reveal the ingredients. And so, we have absolutely no idea how much is really inside! I list the ingredients for each blend below.

Organic Greens Blend

Oat Fiber, Grass Blend (Wheat Grass, Barley Grass, Alfalfa leaf), Spirulina, Flax Seed, Spinach, Parsely, Spirulina, Chlorella, Aloe Vera inner leaf gel 200:1 concentrate, Broccoli, Kale, Green Cabbage

Organic Fruits & Vegetables Blend

Beet, Red Raspberry, Cranberry, Strawberry, Blackberry, Blueberry, Pomegranate, Carrot, Cherry, Acerola, Apple, Banana, Flax, Mango, Papaya, Pear, Pineapple, Tomato, Peach, Acai, Watermelon

Organic Prebiotic & Fiber Blend

Green Pea Fiber, Acacia fibergum, Blue Agave Inulin, Jerusalem Artichoke Inulin, Apple Pectin.

Probiotic Blend

LactoSpore® Bacillus Coagulans, Bacillus Subtilis (100 million CFUs)

I have written about the potential issues with combining Probiotics with greens supplements before.

Organic Mushroom Blend

Maitake Mushroom (Grifola Frondosus), Himematsutake (Agaricus Blazei) Mushroom, Cordyceps Sinensis Mushroom, Turkey Tail (Trametes Versicolor) Mushroom, Shitake (Lentinula Edodes) Mushroom Powder, Lion's Mane (Hericium Erinaceus) Mushroom, Zhu Ling (Plyporous Umbellatus) Mushroom, Chaga (Inonotus Obliquus) Mushroom, Reishi (Ganoderma Iucidum) Mushroom, Meshimakobu (Phellinus linteus) Mushroom

How Does Country Farms Super Greens Taste?

There are four flavors available so the taste will depend very much on your chosen flavor.

Some customers have been quite outspoken on Amazon regarding the taste, one that stuck out was the description of it tasting “like a turtle tank” – really not sure how that would taste!

It seems the preference is very much towards the flavored Country Farms Super Greens in contrast to the Natural one. Personally, I can’t get my head around a Chocolate flavored super greens drink!

Side effects

There are unlikely to be side effects from taking Country Farms Super Greens.

My question would be about ingredient amounts and whether large amounts of any one ingredient could cause unpleasant reactions, especially considering a large number of ingredients per serving size.

Does Country Farms Super Greens work?

Maybe.

The fact that the product has been around for some time and has been used by thousands, if not tens of thousands of customers, means that some people clearly believe there are benefits.

If your diet is incredibly poor then taking Country Farms Super Greens could help supply vital nutrients missing from your diet.

In contrast, if you are already eating a reasonably well-balanced diet but looking for a supplement to really raise your game, then this is probably not the supplement for you.

Country Farms Super Greens customer Reviews

I am a fan of checking Amazon for genuine customer reviews for products. In the past, this could be manipulated by unscrupulous companies with fake reviews but these days Amazon is clamping down on this practice.

So, as with any brand on Amazon, it’s worth reading both 4/5 stars and 1/2 star reviews to get a good mix of feedback.

Overall Country Farms Super Greens has an Amazon rating of 4.1 out of 5 stars, which is pretty good. Over 78% of customers rated this supplement 4 or 5 stars with 17% a poor 1 or 2 stars.

I have selected a few reviews below:

I absolutely love this stuff! I drink an 8 oz glass of OJ with the greens and berry powder Country Farms offers every morning. It mixes well (I just use a mason jar with a lid to shake it together), doesn't have an overpowering taste and I feel fantastic after drinking it. Stacy

The scoop for this container is huge, and if you try to mix one scoop with 8 ounces of water, no amount of blending, shaking or stirring is going to dissolve that much solid in such a small amount of water. Mix one scoop with a half-gallon of liquid and you will have a chance of getting this dissolved. Once dissolved at an appropriate mixture, it has a decent taste and does not taste like you tried to mix 4 ounces of sand in 8 ounces of water. Jason

Of course, couldn’t leave out the “turtle tank” feedback:

This stuff tastes like a turtle tank. Literally. Apparently, this is a total rip off since the majority of this is wheat powder—- it’s powdered bread essentially with a little bit of “greens”. Total waste! Whoops. Alex

Money Back Guarantee / Returns Policy

I went through the official site and the Amazon store for details of a return policy or money-back guarantee, but I couldn’t find one!

Considering that most companies wish to highlight their money-back guarantee it’s safe to say one probably does not exist.

The reason is that you can’t purchase via the official site. This product is retailed via distributors and not directly through their own website. Therefore the refund policy will vary according to the retailer you have purchased from.

Where to Buy Country Farms Super Greens?

The Country Farms official website display their Super Greens and a complete range of other supplements in this brand, but you cannot buy them from the site!

There is a store locator that shows where you can find Country Farm supplements in other retailers, such as Walmart, Kroger, CVS/pharmacy, Kmart, Macey’s, etc.

The easiest place to get hold of Country Farms Super Greens is through Amazon.com, especially if you’re a Prime member.

On Amazon, prices range from $16 to $20 for one 10.6oz tub, with some sellers bundling 2-3 tubs in one.

Is it worth the price?

To judge if Country Farms Super Greens are worth the price tag I should point out that each tub only has 20 servings inside. So, even with taking a serving once per day, you’re not getting a full month’s supply.

It’s important to factor in the daily serving recommendation and the number of servings in a tub, this is where I feel Country Farms Super Greens falls short. To get your month’s supply you will need to stock up on a few tubs, so you need to consider this when evaluating your monthly costs.

The single tub price of $16-$20 will , in fact, end up costing you double the price ($32-$40 per month), which to be fair is still pretty good for a Super Greens supplement.

Country Farms Greens

The bottom line

Country Farms Super Greens are clearly a popular seller in the USA, stocked in most shopping malls and Amazon. However, this feels a little dated and fails to give me the confidence that I would be using an up-to-date supplement, containing only the best ingredients inside.

That said, there are things I do like about Country Farms Super Greens. It’s organic and the price is good. Costing a fraction of many super greens supplements, it’s certainly worth checking out. However, I do have concerns about how effective it would be.

The big downside for me is the lack of ingredients transparency, we simply don’t know how much of each ingredient is inside.

Cramming so many ingredients into a single serving means quantity no doubt suffers. It’s unlikely sufficient amounts will be available for all the ingredients in the blend.

I would much prefer to opt for a supplement with fewer ingredients and have the confidence it is the real deal – quality over quantity.

This Super Greens from Country Farms is simply not for me.

Nested Naturals Super Greens is a healthy-looking supplement that will appeal to budget-conscious shoppers looking to ensure they get their daily greens.

As with all powdered greens supplements, this is easy to take by simply mixing with water and could be the answer to getting your micronutrients more easily.

Nested Naturals was started when the owners were shocked at the state of the supplement industry and the lack of transparency and accountability. Something I can certainly relate to!

Their answer was to create a health supplement company that tackled the ‘wild west’ approach and provide top-quality ingredients with third-party testing. Sounds great, but did they achieve this with their Super Greens health supplement?

Continuing the theme of finding a powdered greens supplement that ticks all my boxes (check out what I look for in super greens), I give Nested Natural Super Greens the once-over.

Nested Naturals Super Greens new tub

What is Nested Naturals Super Greens?

Nested Natural is a brand that exudes trust and transparency, with a clear focus on educating and guiding customers toward leading a healthy, nutritionally-sound lifestyle.

They take an ethical approach to promoting health products and go to great lengths to outline the benefits without the associated hyperbole often seen in the health industry. At the end of the day, supplements are supposed to be taken in addition to your diet, which ideally should contain a healthy balance of fresh nutrients.

Everything about the company and product adheres to their socially-conscious branding. After a few minutes looking at the brand in more detail I had a few concerns and looked to address them further in my full review of Nested Naturals Super Greens.

Nested Naturals Supplement Company

Nested Naturals Background

The company Nested Naturals Inc is based in Vancouver, Canada, and has been in business since 2014. They are proud of the fact they have a good standing with the Better Business Bureau (BBB), but I am not really sure how much this really means. It would appear no one has really complained about the company and they most likely pay BBB an annual membership.

The founders of the company, Kevin and Jeremy, started the business to provide transparent and honest supplements to the market. They achieve this using top quality, globally-sourced ingredients and by third-party testing all their supplements.

It’s great to see supplement companies giving back, and so I really like the fact Nested Naturals support Vitamin Angels. If you don’t know about them, they are a charity that helps mothers and their children in 74 countries around the world to achieve proper nutrition.

Nested Naturals Super Greens Ingredients

It’s really great to see that all the ingredients in Nested Natural Super Greens are 100% organic, non-GMO, and vegan.

Each tub contains 30 servings with each scoop of 8g containing what I counted to be 32 ingredients.

A lot of the usual super green ingredients are there, such as Spirulina, Chlorella, Barley, and Wheatgrass. Also present are probiotics such as Lactobacillus gasseri, Bifidobacterium bifidum, Bifidobacterium longum. There are digestive enzymes in the mix too; Amylase (NLT 1608U), Protease (NLT 402U), Lactase (NLT 268U), Lipase (NLT 67U), and Cellulase.

Regarding probiotics, there are 1.67 billion CFUs probiotics in each serving. This sounds great but the effectiveness of probiotics in super greens is called into question. The fact is probiotics are incredibly sensitive to how they are prepared.

And so, if not sourced and prepared correctly they may not work. The science of probiotics is not solid either.

The more concerning issue, for me, is the use of proprietary blends for the ingredients used to split into five blends; Alkalizing blend (3847mg), Fibre blend (2700mg), Antioxidant blend (1053mg), Probiotic blend (333mg), and Enzyme Blend (67mg).

Nested Natural Super Green Label

The tub does highlight two of the ingredient amounts, Spirulina 667mg and Chlorella 400mg, which we can only assume is the per-serving quantity.

I reached out to their support team for clarification of the ingredient amounts, the response was directing me back to the website showing the Super Greens product page ☹.

To my follow-up email highlighting that this doesn’t actually show the breakdown of each ingredient in the blend, I received the reply “I will look into this again”.

To be fair to the support team they respond very quickly; after a few hours at most. But this is all too familiar with supplements, especially super greens, it would seem.

The standard seems to be a blend – even with companies that promote ‘transparency’.

How Does Nested Naturals Super Greens Taste?

I have yet to try the taste myself but I do know that some people find the flavor fairly strong and slightly unpleasant. This is supported by many of the comments from Amazon customers.

This is fairly common with super greens supplements as the core ingredients do have that grassy and sometimes chalky taste.

If that’s the case you can easily mix with a smoothie or add something to make the taste more palatable. Just be aware that loading with sweet-tasting ingredients will increase the calorific content, in case you’re using this supplement as part of a calorie-controlled diet.

Side Effects

Seasoned super green veterans should be fine with this supplement and unlikely experience unpleasant side effects.

If you’re new to super greens then there is the chance of experiencing a mild stomach upset. This could be due to the probiotics and/or enzymes in the blend. Symptoms should only be temporary and reduced within a day or two, a week at most.

Does Nested Naturals Super Greens Work?

The effectiveness of any supplement should be simple to determine as it is dependent on two things; the type of ingredient and the amounts.

If we consider the ‘alkalizing blend’ for a minute, this contains 10 ingredients making a total of 3,847mg for the blend. As outlined by the FDA, the ingredients have to be listed in the order of their highest quantity, so Barley grass makes up the most of this blend.

The fourth ingredient in this blend is Spirulina, and as we know by now, we need between 1-8g per day to have any discernible effect according to data gathered by Examine.

Are you confident you’re getting this dose in each serving? I am not.

This greens powder could work as a nutritional top-up but its most likely lacking in some ingredient quantities.

The same can be said for Barley grass, with research showing you need between 1-15g per day for effects to be seen. So, provided Nested Naturals Super Greens contains a minimum of 1g of Spirulina and Barley grass, you have 1,847mg left over for the remaining 8 ingredients!

Nested Naturals Super Greens Customer Reviews

As you would expect the official website has positive feedback and so these should be taken with a little pinch of salt. After all, there are only three of them on the official site!

By contrast, their Amazon store has hundreds of positive comments – at the time of writing a whopping 2,229 reviews – of which 71% are 5 stars.

Most of the complaints concerned the taste, even from customers who rated the product 4 or 5 stars.

Here is a random(ish) selection of customer testimonials:

I have used this product for the last 3 months and I have noticed a marked improvement in my digestion. I would give this product 5 stars if not for the taste. Do keep in mind there aren't any sweeteners added so I honestly can't expect much but if I were to describe the taste when added to water it would be like pond water, it is not pleasant and I have to chase it with my coffee in the mornings. Coleycole99

I usually drink greens first but wanted to give this one a chance after reading reviews. I am used to just mixing my green drink with some water and downing it and am not too sensitive to the taste but this one taste like grass and dirt was ground up into a powder. This one is really hard to drink. Samantha

I did discover a review from a concerned and unhappy repeat customer who discovered the green powder has changed.

I just opened a new tub and it’s horrible. Not the same color or consistency. I tried it and it doesn’t have the right flavor and it’s also almost sandy in my teeth 🤢 I added a comparison pic with a good one (left is good, right isn’t)…

Money Back Guarantee / Return Policy

Purchasing from the official website means you get the 100% lifetime guarantee.

This means whether it’s the next day or next year you can get in touch with their support team to arrange to send back your order and receive a full refund.

This is probably the best money-back guarantee out there.

You simply can’t ask for more than this from a supplement company, in fact from any company!

Where to Buy Nested Naturals Super Greens?

The official Nested Naturals website stocks a wide range of supplements: those to aid sleep, digestion, pain relief, immune support, brain health, women’s care, mom and baby health, and of course their Super Greens.

There is free USA delivery for orders over $25 (USD) but considering the Super Greens product is over this amount you’ll always get free delivery for it. International orders will incur a shipping fee which depends on the country you’re sending to.

The other option is to purchase directly from Amazon.com, which you may prefer if you’re a Prime member.

Is It Worth It?

Prices for all of Nested Naturals supplements are very reasonable with prices ranging from $10 to $30 per bottle.

For an everyday supplement to top up your daily greens intake then their Super Greens is good value and better than others costing twice as much!

The question mark on ingredient amounts is, however, a concern. It would be ideal to know if you’re getting enough of each ingredient to truly make a difference. If you’re already eating a healthy balanced diet then this shouldn’t be too much of a worry as you will most likely be getting most of your micronutrients from your diet.

The Bottom Line

There is a lot to like about Nested Naturals Super Greens. The lifetime guarantee and the cheap price make this an incredibly affordable supplement for anyone on a budget who is looking to get their daily greens.

I can’t help but admire the overall feeling of this company project.

But if you’re looking for a greens supplement that packs a punch then in my opinion this product falls short because the ingredient amounts are unlikely to be insufficient amounts to be noticeably effective.

You can counteract this by taking a couple of servings each day but this would be against the recommended serving suggestion by Nested Naturals.

For me, this Super Greens didn’t quite live up to its claims to be a ‘heroic blend of organic superfoods’ which is a shame as I really like the company behind it. With stiff competition and small amounts of each ingredient in the green powders, this brand didn’t quite make the mark.

Have you tried Nested Naturals Super Greens before and liked it? Or maybe you really disliked it? Let me know in the comments below. It would be great to hear how people get on with this supplement.

When I first came across Yuri Elkaim Energy Greens powder drink it was a refreshing change from other Super Greens, let me tell you why.

There is a less-is-more approach taken by this brand with no extensive ingredient list as is seen in most other super greens drinks. Instead, the focus is on several key ingredients known to have real health benefits.

There is a lot to like about Yuri Energy Greens but unfortunately, there are also some drawbacks that are too big to ignore.

Let’s delve into the detail of this Energy Greens superfood supplement and give it the full LifeHacker Guy review.

Yuri Energy Greens

What is Yuri Elkaim Energy Greens?

It’s hard not to be impressed with Yuri Elkaim and his green supplement.

All too often with supplement companies, you know nothing about the owners and why they create the business, but in this case, instead of a faceless corporation, you get to know about the founder of Energy Greens, Yuri Elkaim.

Yuri’s background is fascinating and worth spending a few minutes reading – check out his ‘about’ page “from Soccer to Bed to No Hair On My Head (My Unusual Journey)”.

His health struggles form a major part of the background for his interest in nutrition and developing Energy Greens. I can relate to this as I have struggled – and still do – with poor health since my late teens from doing too much exercise training for triathlons.

I should briefly add that I shave my head and it’s not related to any health condition like Yuri!

Yuri Elkhaim Profile

Other greens brands that I have reviewed:

Background on Yuri Elkaim Energy Greens

Energy Greens is manufactured by Total Wellness Consulting, Inc based in Ontario, Canada.

The founder Yuri Elkaim is a registered holistic nutritionist, New York Times best-selling author of several books and is passionate about healthy eating and all things nutrition. He has written a lot of content on his blog (Yurielkaim.com) around diet, weight loss, health, and fitness.

Yuri has been blogging for over 11 years now, since 2008 when he used to write about health and fitness. He became well known after writing numerous best-selling books in 2014.

He has a number of products that include; TotalWellnessCleanse, MyTreadmillTrainer, and Yuri Elkhaim’s Super Nutrition Academy (SNA).

Yuri Energy Greens through the years

Yuri Energy Greens supplement has changed a little since first being released. Although the core ingredients have remained the container has been improved and looks a lot better.

Yuri Energy Greens through the years

Yuri Elkaim Energy Greens Ingredients

In stark contrast to most Green powders, Yuri Elkaim Energy Greens only contains 8 ingredients in its superfood blend. There is no supplementing with extra products to make this brand seem better value for the money.

Let’s take a quick look at the ingredients in Energy Greens:

  • Spirulina – nutrient-dense with 8 essential amino acids, chlorophyll, the essential fatty acid GLA, and B vitamins (required dosage of 1-8g per day – Examine)
  • Cracked-cell chlorella – great source of chlorophyll, lots of health benefits
  • Alfalafa juice powder – another great source of chlorophyll, contains lots of Vitamin C, may reduce bad cholesterol levels
  • Barley grass powder – high in vitamins and minerals, another great source of chlorophyll
  • Goji berry juice powder – rich in antioxidants and heart-healthy phytosterols and eye sight-protecting carotenoids
  • Vanilla – potent anti-inflammatory, antioxidant polyphenols, also adds flavour
  • Cinnamon – unique healing abilities with anti-clotting and antimicrobial activity
  • Maca – organic adaptogen, similar to ginseng, great for energy, recovery, libido, and stress-busting (required dosage of 1.5-3g per day – Examine. The taste of Maca root is fairly unpleasant – if you have ever tried this on its own well done! )

Some of the recommended daily dosages have been outlined, others were less clear how much per day is recommended.

For more in-depth information about popular super green ingredients check out my article.

Each serving of Yuri Energy Greens is 7.8g which is a little less than some of the other popular greens on the market (such as this or this one etc). Considering there are much fewer ingredients in this brand then this smaller portion is probably not an issue of ingredient amounts.

The ingredient profile is a proprietary blend and the ingredient amounts of each one of the 8 ingredients are not disclosed.

So, whilst it’s great to know the ingredients have been carefully selected and are 100% organic, it would be good to know how much is inside.

This is my ONLY issue with Yuri Elkaim Energy Greens, unfortunately, though it’s a fairly major one!

Yuri Elkaim Energy Greens is 100% USDA certified organic. Having only 8 ingredients means it is much easier to achieve this status.

How Does Yuri Elkaim Energy Greens Taste?

I have yet to taste Energy Greens but according to Yuri, who tested it out on his three sons, it tastes amazing. Yuri spent a lot of time in his own kitchen getting the taste right and so (according to him) it is unlike most other green powder drinks on the market.

In fact, he backs this up with an amazing “taste it and love it” money-back guarantee.

You can mix it with 250ml (8oz) of water or add it to your favorite green smoothie.

Side Effects

Apart from consulting your physician if you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, or on any medications, there is no mention of side effects.

A few of the ingredients may not be suitable for everyone though.

Does Yuri Elkaim Energy Greens Work?

According to Yuri his Energy Greens supplement:

TOP 8 most nutrient-dense superfoods in the world made the cut – and every single one of the superfoods comes in significant amounts that have been shown to help enhance health… protect against disease… and provide natural energy and well-being. Yuri Elkaim.

Everything about this greens powder screams ‘this is going to work’. The product isn’t over-marketed and is not gimmicky (I am thinking chocolate greens drink here!), but there is one niggling doubt in my mind.

The use of a proprietary blend and the lack of a fully transparent (measured) ingredient label.

Whilst the claim is that each ingredient is provided in “significant amounts” we don’t know for sure and have to completely rely on Yuri for this.

I would much prefer seeing the FULL ingredient list on the label for complete peace of mind.

So do I think Yuri Elkaim Energy Greens can work?

On balance, I would most likely think yes, but I have no evidence to support this other than a gut feeling. If that’s enough then this could be the Greens Supplement for you.

Yuri Elkaim Energy Greens Customer Reviews

The official site has a number of testimonials, most of which are videos. This is great as it's much more likely they are genuine (though of course not completely guaranteed).

It would be good to see reviews on third party sites too, but I was unable to find any.

Examples of what customers had to say about Energy Greens:

By far the best tasting greens on the market! Keith Yackey, Nevada, USA

Yuri’s Energy Greens helped me cut out coffee, and get rid of my chronic fatigue!
Lisa, Louisiana, USA

If you’re looking for the best Organic Greens powder on the market then look no further than Yuri’s Energy Greens!
Ann, Ontario, Canada

A quick point to highlight is there aren’t any dates on the reviews either, not that this a big deal, but we don’t know how recent they are.

Money Back Guarantee / Returns Policy

Yuri Elkhaim has one of the best money-back guarantees I have seen in a Super Greens product – a full one-year money-back guarantee!

This is VERY impressive and clearly Yuri stands behind his product 100%.

Where to Buy Yuri Elkaim Energy Greens?

I could only find Yuri Energy Greens supplement through the official website and not through his Amazon store where he sells his books (All-Day Energy Diet and All-Day Fat Burning Diet).

There are a few websites that look to be owned and operated by Yuri and his team. These all point back to the official e-commerce site where you can make your desired purchase.

A real plus is the fact that there is international shipping to what looks like most countries on the planet!

Is It Worth the Price?

Yuri Greens

Yuri’s Super greens supplement is on the premium side with prices of $65 – $80 for a single jar. There are discounts available for buying multiple jars at a time, for example, buy 3 jars and you will receive a 13% discount and for 6 jars you get a 25% discount plus a free cookbook.

You can also have your 1, 3, or 6 jars automatically sent to you every 30 days. I can’t imagine why anyone would be ordering 6 jars every month!

Every order receives a free color guide with 21 green smoothie recipes.

Considering that there are only 8 ingredients in this greens powder, I do think it’s a little overpriced, especially as we cant be sure of the ingredient amounts.

The recommended dosage is to take 2-3 servings per day. To be fair there are 45 servings in each jar, but if you do decide to take 3 servings per day one jar will ONLY LAST 15 days!

Would you be keen on paying $120USD+ per month for one month’s supply? I don’t think I would.

Essentially you’re paying for the smaller batch runs and claims of better ingredient sourcing.

The Bottom Line

I will say it again, I can’t help but be impressed with Yuri’s Energy Greens supplement. The guy comes across as very genuine and his story gives you a real sense of confidence in his product.

I really like the fact this supplement takes a less-is-more approach to ingredients.

That said, I am disappointed that there is no ingredient label transparency. Considering how easy this is to do, I find it incredibly frustrating that more supplement companies do this!

For me, this is one of my favorite Super Greens brands but the lack of full ingredient transparency lets it down. Paying what could be over $100 per month for the “best results” is a little steep too.

My journey to find the ultimate Super Greens supplement to take continues.

I have seen Texas SuperFood pop up online when researching the recommended greens powders. Whilst I was about to try this supplement I wanted to do more in-depth research first before spending so much money on it.

A number of websites recommend this Super Greens supplement, I was a little skeptical but wanted to check it out before considering buying Texas SuperFood for myself.

I have tried many Super Greens so far, but for full transparency, I should be clear that I haven’t personally tried the Texas SuperFood supplement.

So, here is my quick Texas SuperFood review so far, and based on this will decide if I should take the plunge and try it out.

There are also three variations of Texas SuperFood; essentials, original and complete. All are available in capsule form with the Original and Complete versions also available in powder form.

With greens products, I prefer the non-capsule form as you always get far more ingredients in each serving (check out why I don't like Super Green capsules here).

The complete version also comes with a separate tub of digestive enzymes and is 100% USDA organic certified.

Texas Superfood Power Range

What really surprised me was the fact this supplement is marketed for children too (over 12 year olds)!

Very few supplements are safe for under 18-year-olds, and so I am somewhat shocked by the advertising claims of TX Superfood. Check out can kids take Super Greens in my article.

Background on Texas Superfood

Texas SuperFood is manufactured by NPN Global Inc based in Utah in the USA and has been running since 2000. I couldn’t really find much information on the company itself although checking out the registered address for Texas SuperFood showed a large serviced office address in Utah.

The company manufactures a number of nutritional supplements from Superfoods to probiotics, brain, and joint support. The Texas SuperFood range is available in either capsule or powder options, with the standard and more expensive “complete” version.

Their social media presence is looking a little sparse in recent months.

It seems that they don’t update this very often with Facebook showing the latest posts back in August 2018, and Twitter a lack of activity since July 2018. This got me wondering, is the brand not too popular now?

The owner of Texas Superfood is Dr. Dennis Black. A quick search online and I came across an FDA warning in 2015 where he was issued a warning letter for making “unapproved new drug” claims for some of the supplements in his company.

Basically, he was promoting their health supplements as drugs or cures.

How does Texas Superfoods compare to other supplements?

Texas SuperFood Ingredients

There are 55 ingredients in the Texas SuperFood Complete supplement but we could only find 24 listed on the supplements fact label (see label below).

On the Texas SuperFood Original label, ALL the ingredients are actually listed but all within a proprietary blend.

Texas Superfood Complete and Original Labels

On the official website, there is an “ingredients directory” where I counted over 60 ingredients listed with their benefits. There is a “products that contain” this ingredient section that highlights in which product this ingredient is included. Not the easiest way to identify the ingredients within a product though, as it makes more sense the have the complete list of the “supplement facts” section on the product!

The serving amount will vary depending on whether you go for Texas SuperFood powder or capsule versions. The powder version has a serving size of 6g and the capsule one you take 6 capsules (so around 3.6g per day).

The non-capsule version will of course provide more ingredient amounts, but it’s still likely to be under the required amounts.

The Original version contains a lot of organic nutrients (vegetables and fruits) although the product isn’t USDA-certified organic. This means that overall less than 95% of the ingredients are organic in the Texas SuperFood Original version.

There is no breakdown of the 55 ingredients used in the formula and so there is no indication of the amounts.

Guess what, that’s because it’s another proprietary blend. Although this time there is no pseudo-scientific named blend, the ingredients are simply listed out.

The Texas SuperFood Complete range is USDA-certified organic though.

On the plus side, both versions of the product are gluten, dairy, and soy-free. The capsule version of the supplement also contains vegetarian-friendly capsules.

How does Texas SuperFood Taste?

Having not personally tasted this supplement I cannot tell you for sure. Instead, though I took to the internet to check out what other people have said.

The official website highlights that the Texas SuperFood Original has a “green veggie” taste whereas the Complete version is “sweet!”.

Side Effects

No reported side effects from me as I haven’t tried this product yet.

A few customers have reported minor side effects such as; Upset stomach, Bloating, Gas, Headache, Nausea, Diarrhea, and Changes in bowel movements. Most customers seem to cope with it fine though.

Does Texas SuperFood work?

Possibly but unlikely, it’s very difficult to know for sure.

The main reason I say this is the ingredient amounts are not given and so it’s very uncertain how much you’re really getting in each serving.

The serving size is small too, with each scoop only providing 6g of nutrients. With so many ingredients provided, there are likely to be tiny amounts available, which will not be enough to do much.

Cramming so many ingredients into a tiny serving means there will no doubt be a compromise in ingredient quantity.

Cramming so many ingredients into a tiny serving means there will no doubt be a compromise in ingredient quantity. And with scarce details on the ingredients full stop, there is a question over the ingredient quality too!

Texas SuperFood Customer Reviews

There are a number of “verified” Texas SuperFood reviews on the official website, of course, these are all positive showing 4 or 5 stars out of 5.

Amazon showed over 200 customer reviews with 30% of the reviews showing a 3 star or lower rating. There was still 70% of the reviews with a 4 or 5 start though, this is encouraging!

The negative feedback was mostly about not feeling like anything had changed.

Garbage didn’t do a thing. Didn’t notice anything. Joseph

I did find one very unhappy customer, who not only didn’t get on with the product itself but was less than impressed with the customer service and refund policy:

I had a horrible reaction to this product. I felt like I had the flu (intestinally) even though I took it with food. I realized it was the TX Superfood when I didn't take it one day & started to feel better. I went back to it again & all the symptoms came roaring back. I contacted the company for a refund & they told me to try taking less & building up to the full dosage. As bad as I felt, I had no interest to try it again. As others have stated, the company is not forthcoming with refunds so their “Satisfaction Guarantee” is not true. I'd give it zero stars but that's not an option. A very expensive non-refundable mistake. Health Foodee

In contrast, though, there are many positive reviews for Texas SuperFood:

works very well, I am sleeping great and I was not, have more energy and not napping during the day, also curbs appetite, will buy again and continue to take it. Joan.

Used a similar product (NPN Super Foods) and was happy with the uptick in energy levels. This one I think gives me a bit more energy but is also much more expensive. I do think it is a good product. Alejandro

Money Back Guarantee / Returns Policy

Every order has a 30-day money-back guarantee that starts from the date of first purchase. To qualify you need to return the used or unused bottle back to the company to receive a refund minus shipping costs.

They provide chat support (offline when I tried), email, and telephone support options.

Where To Buy Texas SuperFood?

You can purchase all the Texas SuperFood brands directly on the official website.

There are no international shipping options though and appears you can ONLY order if you’re based in the USA. This is fairly common amongst many USA-based supplement companies.

Some of the brands sold by Texas SuperFood do appear on Amazon.com but there doesn’t appear to be a store that is actively managed.

Is It Worth The Price?

Each tub of Texas SuperFood powder or capsule costs $63 USD, buying three tubs at once means you can save $8 per tub. There is a monthly subscription option where you can save 8% with free shipping.

The Texas SuperFood Complete range of powder or capsules costs more and is $79.95 for a single tub or $69.95 when purchasing three tubs at once. You can save $8.65 and have free shipping if you go for the monthly subscription option.

At first glance, it may seem worthwhile considering you get 55 ingredients per Texas SuperFood serving. My issue though, is that I am not confident ingredient amounts match anywhere near enough to have a noticeable effect, it could mean that I am wasting my money.

Lastly, on a per-gram cost price this is one of the most expensive Green powder supplements on the market.

So, for me at this price point it would be better considering my superfood supplement or alternatively Green Vibrance.

The Bottom Line

So, am I now tempted to invest in buying Texas SuperFood?

On the surface, Texas SuperFood Super Greens looks okay but when you delve into the details it's over-priced and will likely under-deliver too.

I am not impressed!

The official website looks great and looks the part, but I have concerns over the ingredient amounts and the lack of social media in the last 6-7 months (have they given up on the brand?).

This supplement isn’t cheap and with so much competition out there Texas SuperFood in my opinion doesn’t stand out from the crowd. Ultimately, giving Texas SuperFood a try means spending $70 USD plus (including shipping) for a product that will unlikely have much, if any benefit for me.

Readers of my blog will know that I really dislike this practice of hiding the ingredient amounts. I am much more likely to try alternative brands like SuperGreen Tonik (my brand).

There are just too many uncertainties with Texas SuperFood for me. I decided against buying and will be looking at other brands that deliver better Super Greens for better value.
